    Talent Management in Healthcare Administration

    Get PDF
The health system is extraordinarily complex and more than other sectors requires building consensus among independent constituents, many of whom have existed for more than centuries. Health is a mission driven industry. The “end-consumer” for health is ultimately people everywhere, although the trend may be toward specialty delivery organizations (hospitals, pharmaceuticals, biotech start–up, insurance company) have at the core of their strategies making people healthy. These organizations recognize that health is about serving people at their most vulnerable and when they are in crisis. Healthcare facilities today face talent challenges. The ability to sustain a steady supply of talents is a challenge facing all organizations worldwide. Among the issues confronting the “next generation” workforce are impending skill shortages, an increasingly generational gap and diverse workforce, the need for knowledge transfer from retiring healthcare providers, and significant leadership gaps. At a time when organizations like the healthcare, aviation industry, and others need to optimize their workforces, most agree that talent management is of strategic importance. Health leaders are especially challenged to create work climates that motivate high-quality, patient-centered care and retain high demand talent in a competitive market. This paper aims to present strategies to maximizing talent management in the healthcare administration or system. Durability of multi layered plasma and HVOF coatings

The aim of this research is to investigate the effect of variable compositional coating layers on their mechanical and chemical behaviour under certain environments typically experienced in the Oil and Gas Industry. The research centers on using thermal spray coating techniques such as the HVOF and plasma spray equipment. The coating was applied onto selected carbon steel substrates (API-5L, Schedule-40, Grade-B) to simulate the material application used in oil and gas components that subject to corrosion and corrosion-erosion phenomena. The coating was deposited using three layers of coatings with various combinations of sprayed powders to create graded multi-layered coating. WC-12Co powders with two different powder structures (micro-sized powders and nano-sized agglomerated into micro-sized powders – nano-structured) were mixed at different ratios with AMDRY (9954 and 995M) powders to enhance the mechanical behaviour, wear, and corrosion protection (Hardness, corrosion, erosion-corrosion) of the coatings. The surface morphology and the elemental composition of the coatings were examined using SEM and EDS techniques. The results indicated that coating deposited by the HVOF (60% Micro WC-12Co and 40% Micro AMDRY 9954) was the most effective coating system in preventing corrosion. If the erosion is the dominant concern, then replacing the Microsized WC-12Co powder with the Nanosized WC-12Co powder is effective for protecting materials from wear caused by erosion-corrosion. The addition of the AMDRY powder to the original WC-Co powders helped to lower the overall coating porosity, enhanced the corrosion protection, and improved the overall erosion–corrosion performance, which addresses issues currently faced in the Oil/Gas industry. A Design of Experiment (DOE) technique may be used to optimize the powders blending ratios to give better results in future work

Biographical Films Between Deification and Demonization

Bio graphical films are a sig nificant part of cinema providing viewers with a glimpse into the lives of real people However their depiction often varies with some portraying their characters as moral heroes and others as villains This study explores the thematic exploration of deification versus demonisation in biographical films focusing on their historical context evolution and impact on audience perception Deification emphasises the positive qualities of individuals while minimising their imperfections while demonisation highlights unfavourable characteristics and behaviours The ethical and moral implications of depicting real-life individuals and the sociocultural and political factors influencing these portrayals are explored The study also explores the audience s perception and the influence of media and criticism on public discourse This research enhances our understanding of the complex nature of portraying real-life individuals contributing to a deeper understanding of the interplay between deification and demonisation in biographical cinem

Woodcutting Activities in Tabuk Region (Saudi Arabia): Assessment of Conservation Knowledge

    Get PDF
The present study aims to investigate the effect of different social factors on the woodcutting frequency in Tabuk Region. A total of 100 people participated in this study by answering the questionnaire questions. The conservation knowledge of the participants was also assessed through 4 questions (Yes or No). The final score of the conservation knowledge assessment is 4. The present study findings showed that most of people like to cut the wood for heating during winter and fall seasons. The frequency of woodcutting in Tabuk Region was once a month. Among the social factors involved in this study, education showed negative and significant relationship with the number of logging times. However, age had positive relationship with the number of logging times. The most favourbale species to be cut and used for heating and cooking in Tabuk are; Acacia tortilis, Acacia ehrenbergiana, Retama reaetam and Calligonum comosum. For the assessment of the public conservation knowledge, it was found that most of participants had moderate to good conservation knowledge as most of them answered 3 questions correctly out of 4. The conservation knowledge showed to be affected positively by education level and negatively by the number of family members. In conclusion, it was found that there is remarkable woodcutting stress on wild plants in Tabuk Region and immediate and effective actions should be performe

The Relationship between both Partial and Complete Denture Wearers and the Presence of Oral Malodour and the Effect of Denture Cleansers on the Oral Microbiota

    Get PDF
Oral malodour may be considered a substantial concern for a sizeable percentage of the general population and as such it is important for clinicians to identify the causes of oral malodour, to treat the problem effectively. Aim: The aim of the present study was therefore to review the published literature on the presence and perception of oral malodour (halitosis) in patients wearing both removable partial or complete dentures and the effect of denture cleansers on the oral microbiota. Materials & Methods: A comprehensive electronic search of databases such as PUBMED, Cochrane, Google Scholar, EmBase and Web of Science was performed up to February 2016. Results: 55 potentially relevant reports were identified with six studies included in the review. Of the six included papers, only one study was randomised, and five studies were either non-randomised controlled clinical trials or, quasi randomised trials. The results from these studies would suggest that there was an indirect association between the presence and perception of oral malodour in both RPD and complete denture wearing patients. Conclusions: The strength of evidence was however insufficient to draw any definitive conclusions on a potential correlation of oral malodour in patients with RPDs

Health Beliefs Related to Diabetes Mellitus Prevention among Adolescents in Saudi Arabia

Objectives: The incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is growing rapidly in the Saudi population. The purpose of this study was to assess the constructs of the health belief model (HBM) as they relate to T2DM lifestyle and prevention behaviours among adolescents. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted between May and October 2013 among 426 non-diabetic secondary school students from randomly selected schools in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. An Arabic version of an adapted English language questionnaire was used to assess knowledge and attitudes related to the severity and prevention of T2DM. A preventative behaviour assessment was also conducted to assess physical activity and dietary habits. Results: The majority of the students (63.4%) had at least one diabetic family member. Obesity was more frequent in males compared to females (P = 0.013). Awareness about the importance of maintaining a healthy body weight to prevent T2DM was lower in males than females (P = 0.037), although males engaged in routine exercise more often (P = 0.001). Males were less likely than females to recognise the risks for T2DM, including obesity (P = 0.030), heredity (P = 0.013) and high fat intake (P = 0.001). Conclusion: An alarmingly high number of Saudi students were unaware of T2DM severity and associated risk factors. Female students were more aware of the benefits of T2DM preventative lifestyle behaviours than males, although males engaged in routine exercise more often. Raising adolescents’ awareness about the primary prevention strategies for T2DM should be a public health priority in Saudi Arabia. The HBM could inform further research on diabetes prevention among Saudi adolescents
