    Rate Regions for the Partially-Cooperative Relay Broadcast Channel with Non-causal Side Information

    In this work, we consider a partially cooperative relay broadcast channel (PC-RBC) controlled by random parameters. We provide rate regions for two different situations: 1) when side information (SI) S^n on the random parameters is non-causally known at both the source and the relay and, 2) when side information S^n is non-causally known at the source only. These achievable regions are derived for the general discrete memoryless case first and then extended to the case when the channel is degraded Gaussian and the SI is additive i.i.d. Gaussian. In this case, the source uses generalized dirty paper coding (GDPC), i.e., DPC combined with partial state cancellation, when only the source is informed, and DPC alone when both the source and the relay are informed. It appears that, even though it can not completely eliminate the effect of the SI (in contrast to the case of source and relay being informed), GDPC is particularly useful when only the source is informed.Comment: 7 pages, Proc. of IEEE International Symposium on Information theory, ISIT 2007, Nice, Franc

    Beating the One-half Limit of Ancilla-free Linear Optics Bell Measurements

    We show that optically encoded two-qubit Bell states can be unambiguously discriminated with a success probability of more than 50% in both single-rail and dual-rail encodings by using active linear-optical resources that include Gaussian squeezing operations. These results are in contrast to the well-known upper bound of 50% for unambiguous discrimination of dual-rail Bell states using passive, static linear optics and arbitrarily many vacuum modes. We present experimentally feasible schemes that improve the success probability to 64.3% in dual-rail and to 62.5% in single-rail for a uniform random distribution of Bell states. Conceptually, this demonstrates that neither interactions that induce nonlinear mode transformations (such as Kerr interactions) nor auxiliary entangled photons are required to go beyond the one-half limit. We discuss the optimality of our single-rail scheme, and talk about an application of our dual-rail scheme in quantum communication.Comment: 4+5 pages, 4 figure

    Binding mode analyses of NAP derivatives as mu opioid receptor selective ligands through docking studies and molecular dynamics simulation

    Mu opioid receptor selective antagonists are highly desirable because of their utility as pharmacological probes for receptor characterization and functional studies. Furthermore, the mu opioid receptors act as an important target in drug abuse and addiction treatment. Previously, we reported NAP as a novel lead compound with high selectivity and affinity towards the mu opioid receptor. Based on NAP, we have synthesized its derivatives and further characterized their binding affinities and selectivity towards the receptor. NMP and NGP were identified as the two most selective MOR ligands among NAP derivatives. In the present study, molecular modeling methods were applied to assess the dual binding modes of NAP derivatives, particularly on NMP and NGP, in three opioid receptors, in order to analyze the effects of structural modifications on the pyridyl ring of NAP on the binding affinity and selectivity. The results indicated that the steric hindrance, electrostatic, and hydrophobic effects caused by the substituents on the pyridyl ring of NAP contributed complimentarily on the binding affinity and selectivity of NAP derivatives to three opioid receptors. Analyses of these contributions provided insights on future design of more potent and selective mu opioid receptor ligands

    This paper is specifically directed towards the maritime education and training of Pakistan. The objectives of this paper are explained in the following paragraphs. .1 In countries where shipping activities are not sizable the maritime institutions have to justify their survival. There are questions asked about the cost effectiveness of the maritime educational institutions. There is an acute need to publicise the importance of such education and training. With reasons for having it in specialised institutions. .2 The present slump in shipping has rendered many useful technical personnel (seafarers) jobless. One of the major reasons is the non-equivalence of maritime educational systems with the regular national academic educational systems. It is of paramount importance to eliminate this reason and so ease the pressures on the shipping industry and its personnel. Doing this will help the general national policies of rooting out the social evils of unemployment. .3 we are passing through the end of a technological era.     Design and Optimization of a High Gain Multiband Patch Antenna for Millimeter Wave Application

    This paper presents an enhanced Quadri-band microstrip patch antenna, using defective slots in the ground plane, designed to operate in the millimeter wave band, formulated using cavity model and simulated by an EM-simulator, based on finite element method: HFSSv15 (High Frequency Structure Simulator). The proposed antenna incorporates two symmetric patterns of “U” shaped slots with an “I” shaped slot engraved in the middle of the ground plane. The resulting antenna has four frequency bands; the first resonant frequency is located in the Ka band, at about 27Ghz, the second at nearly 35Ghz, the third at 41Ghz and the last one at 51GHz. Those resonant frequencies could be shifted by tuning the slots dimensions introduced if the ground plane of the proposed antenna .
