El hotel es un espacio paradigmático de la Modernidad, un microcosmos social, una «heterotopía» paradigmática (Foucault). Este artículo examina el significado literario del hotel como escenario predilecto en la literatura de expresión alemana de la primera mitad del siglo xx, especialmente durante el período de entreguerras. Propósito de este artículo es presentar una sucinta selección de textos literarios cuyo escenario se aloja en el hotel. Varios autores pasaron largos períodos de su vida en hoteles e incorporaron esa experiencia a su producción literaria. Eligieron el motivo del hotel para explorar la noción de espacio público y privado, el estatus de espacio anónimo e íntimo en textos de los representantes de la Modernidad, el espacio semi-anónimo del hotel tiene un especial impacto en determinados comportamientos femeninos.Hotels are paradigmatic modern spaces, social microcosms, paradigmatic «heterotopias» (Foucault). This paper examines the literary relevance of hotels as a favourite setting in German literature of the first half of the twentieth century —particularly, in the period between the two world wars. A brief survey of selected literary texts will be the main purpose of this paper. Many writers spent long periods of their own lives in hotels and incorporated that experience into their literary works. They chose the literary setting of the hotel to explore the status of the individual and the notions of public and private, anonymity and intimacy. In some texts by modernist writers, the semi-anonymous space of the hotel has a special impact on female characters.peerReviewe
