Observation results by the TAMA300 detector on gravitational wave bursts from stellar-core collapses

We present data-analysis schemes and results of observations with the TAMA300 gravitational-wave detector, targeting burst signals from stellar-core collapse events. In analyses for burst gravitational waves, the detection and fake-reduction schemes are different from well-investigated ones for a chirp-wave analysis, because precise waveform templates are not available. We used an excess-power filter for the extraction of gravitational-wave candidates, and developed two methods for the reduction of fake events caused by non-stationary noises of the detector. These analysis schemes were applied to real data from the TAMA300 interferometric gravitational wave detector. As a result, fake events were reduced by a factor of about 1000 in the best cases. The resultant event candidates were interpreted from an astronomical viewpoint. We set an upper limit of 2.2x10^3 events/sec on the burst gravitational-wave event rate in our Galaxy with a confidence level of 90%. This work sets a milestone and prospects on the search for burst gravitational waves, by establishing an analysis scheme for the observation data from an interferometric gravitational wave detector

We investigated the influence of defoliation on the 137Cs concentration of mature Japanes persimmon fruits to verify the involvement of radiocesium translocation from leaves to fruit. The 137Cs concentration of leaves was decreased during harvest time from the middle of September. The 137Cs contents in one fruit were increased during harvest time from the middle of September. The degree of defoliation had no effect on the 137Cs concentration of fruits and 137Cs contents in one fruit. These results indicated that the effect of number of leaves per fruit on 137Cs concentration of the fruits was not clear

Fifty patients treated for salivary gland tumor in our hospital were clinicopathologically studied for 15 years, from April 1989 to March 2004. The results are as follows: 1. There were 30cases (60.0%) of benign tumors and 20cases (40.0%) of malignant tumors. 2. Salivary gland tumors were equally found in males (25cases; 50.0%) and female (25cases; 50.0%). Benign tumors occurred in slightly more females (16cases; 53.3%) than males (14cases; 46.7%) and malignant tumors were seen in more males (12cases; 60.0%) than females (8cases; 40.0%). 3. The average age of the patients was 52.7 years (benign tumors; 44.8 years old, malignant tumors; 63.3 years old). 4. Pleomorphic adenoma was the most common tumor. It accounted for 52.0% of all tumors and 86.7% of the benign tumors. Adenoid cystic carcinoma had the highest incidence among the malignant tumors (26.0% in all tumors, 65.0% in malignancy). 5. At the first medical examination, while most patients with benign tumor had only swelling without pain, the patients with malignant tumor had swelling with pain and/or ulcer. 6. The period from onset to first hospital visit for benign tumor cases was longer than for malignant tumor cases (5 years 4 months and 8months respectively). 7. Tumor size at first examination was 2-4cm in 27cases (57.4%). 8. Most tumors occurred in the palatal gland (19cases; 38.0%) followed by the submandibular gland (11cases; 22.0%) and finally the parotid gland (6cases; 12.0%). Palatal gland tumors were the most common benign and malignant tumors. 9. In terms of malignancy, more than half the tumors (12cases; 66.7%) were at stageI. 10. Surgical treatment was performed in 16 cases (80.0%) of malignant tumors.論文http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_650

We retrospectively analyzed the treatment results of 21 ameloblastoma cases over the past 14 years (1988 to 2002). Results were summarized as follows: 1. The sample consisted of 16 males and 5 females with ages between 9 to 68 years (average 29.6 years). 2. Two cases were found in the maxilla and 19 cases in the mandible. 3. Radiography revealed 10 cases of unilocular, 7 0f multilocular, and 2 of honeycomb. 4. Pathologically, 12 cases were plexiform type, 6 were follicular type, and 3 were acanthoma type. 5. Two cases underwent marsupilization, 15 cases underwent enucleation followed by removal of adjacent bone, and 4 cases underwent radical treatment (1 partial maxilloectomy, 1 marginal resection of mandible, 1 block resection, 1 hemimandiblectomy). 6. The rate of recurrence was 9.5%. There was no recurrent cases following radical treatment. These results suggested that conservative surgical treatment is choice for ameloblastoma.論文http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_650

For Systematization of Oral Care in University of Ryukyus Hospital

In recent years, the medicinal significance of oral healthcare leads to an improved QOL, for example by preventing systemic severe infectious diseases, feeding, deglutition, rehabilitation and so on, has been regarded as important. In particular, it is now recognized that oral healthcare of an inpatient occupies an important role as part of their healthy maintenance, not only in terms of the prevention of oral infectious diseases but also of systemic severe infectious diseases. On the other hand, however, oral healthcare may prove problematic, since each patient has specific oral and body states based on their disease. Therefore, we conducted a questionnaire survey to assess the present circumstances of oral healthcare for each ward for nurses having direct relations to inpatients in the University of Ryukyu hospital. Consequently, most nurses who responded had experience in oral healthcare. In addition, the problems of performing oral healthcare and the need for a dentist and oral hygienist in connection with oral healthcare were positively recognized, as well as the need of oral healthcare on each ward based on the condition of a patient, was systematized.論文http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_650
