The objective structured clinical examination (OSCE) is an examination format to assess the clinical competence ofhealth science students. The purpose of the present study was to survey the status of the implementation of an OSCE forundergraduate physical therapy students in Japanese universities and to introduce a physical therapy OSCE to the educationalprogram of our department based on the survey. Prior to making a questionnaire to survey the status of the implementation ofan OSCE, we visited two departments implementing an OSCE in the physical therapy educational program, and consolidatedthe information regarding the usage of OSCE. Subsequently, a questionnaire was sent to all physical therapy departments inJapanese universities. The questionnaire was answered by 53 % departments. The 64 % departments implemented physicaltherapy OSCE in their educational programs. The survey elucidated that the objective of the OSCE was to motivate studentsto improve clinical skill rather than to strictly assess the clinical competence, indicating that most departments used OSCE as ateaching OSCE. Actually, the students failed to go up to next grade due to the poor results of OSCE only in 19% departments.Only 14 % departments recruited outside standardized patients in the OSCE. In reference to the survey, we introduced theOSCE to our educational program as a teaching OSCE which facilitate student to learn clinical skill and adapt the studentsto a clinical circumstance. This study firstly reported the status of the implementation of an OSCE in Japanese four-yearundergraduate program, which could contribute to the standardization of the OSCE format in Japanese physical therapyeducation based on multicenter works among the departments

This research is an investigation to find out student\u27s impression towards the field of psychiatry and aims to obtain useful knowledge to conduct the class effectively. The research was conducted by a questionnaire of 50 items before and after the Introductory Clinical Internship. The analysis method used, were Principal Components Analysis, Semantic Differential Method, and Mann Whitney U test. As a result, the overall impression has changed from "sorrow and fear" to "optimistic". In the analysis according to the items, five items showed the change greatly, no judgment could be made on eight items, and four items did not show the change. These results were useful in planning the contents of the class

The objective of this study is to develop a special self-training program for students of occupational therapy forthe National Examination and to explore changes in their scholastic ability and in their consciousness as well as the relationbetween their scholastic ability and their consciousness. The new study method was developed by referring to the KJ Method. The subjects were 28 students in their junior and senior years who were enrolled in the Department of Occupational Therapyof Teikyo University of Science. The examination of the scholastic ability of the students and a questionnaire to makeevaluation of consciousness was administrated to the juniors at the start and completion of the program, and to the seniors atthe completion of the program. As a result, it was found that improvement of scholastic ability was not significant. This mayhave been due to the inability of students with poor abilities to maintain their motivations since only a single, advanced methodof study was indicated to them. Next, it was found that there is a relationship between the consciousness and the scholasticability of the students. Further, the ability to obtain a high score was related to possession of basic information about theNational Examination. In addition, whereas the consciousness of students with good ability to obtain high scores was foundto converge to a single trend, that of students with poor ability to do so was found to be widely dispersed. These findingssuggest that it is necessary to make modifications to the program in accordance with the scholastic ability of the students

Our objective in this study was to learn current conditions of physical exertion and fitness of performance of young people who will be reaching late twenties in 2020 or later and thus we looked at the relationship between cardiorespiratory endurance and amounts of physical exertion. [Subject]:Sixteen (16) subjects were randomly selected from seventy eight (78) healthy male students. [method]:As for examination methods, maximum oxygen consumption was measured using cardiopulmonary exercise testing (CPX) and a pedometer with accelerometer was employed to measure total energy expenditure (TEE). [Result]:Results showed that maximum oxygen consumption was significantly lower than the average value of results taken ten years earlier. Also it was confirmed that the maximum oxygen consumption has strong direct correlation with total energy expenditure (TEE). [conclusion]: This study points to a trend that decreased cardiorespiratory endurance among the current young people is deeply related, more so than other generations, to decreased amounts of daily physical exertion

The objective of this study was to verify the effect of professional interventions by physical therapists on dachshunds that had intervertebral disc herniation with persistent inability to walk. Subjects were 5 dachshunds diagnosed with intervertebral disc herniation and associated paraplegia; they had failed to regain their ability to walk even 2 months after corrective surgery. We administered professional physical therapy and low-frequency therapy to the subjects for 2 months. At the end of 2 months, 3 dogs were able to stand up and maintain the standing position, while 2 were capable of assisted walking. We presumed that this improvement in the locomotory function of the dogs was considerably influenced by the induction of spinal reflexes and exercise therapy that were based on motion dynamics. Because the therapy was based on the knowledge of physical therapy for humans, the results suggest that physical therapists can contribute to the enhancement of animal medical care and, thereby, the welfare of owners

Experimental apparatuses to visualize a fluid movement have been developed. The apparatuses are applied on the experimental simulation of climate system. Rayleigh-Benard convection was realized by heating the silicon oil in the metal plate. The fluid flow in the convection was visualized by using aluminum powder and thermography. A linear relation between convection cell size and depth of silicon oil is determined. Experiments on the prevailing westerlies wave motion was performed by using rotary water vessel, which was consisted of cylindrical laminar structures of ice water, water and hot water. Wavy motion of rotating water flow was observed by using aluminum powder. A relation of wave number of water flow and rotary speed is determined

This study examined the self-formation model for university students. One hundred university students participated inthis study. Main results were as follows: (1) students\u27 evaluation for their own activities. Its evaluation influenced students\u27 identity formations through the self-growth orientation. (2) "Lack of strategies to expressthemselves" in the coping had an inhibitory influence on students\u27 identity formations

In recent years, it has been well recognized that the children and adults with disabilities have been suffering from severe and more serious diseases and/or more duplicated disabilities than ever before. Besides, the number of children with developmental disorders including learning disability has been sharply increasing. Along with this situation, the people\u27s needs for rehabilitation have ever been increased, expanded and become more detailed. Seeing from the standpoint of life model and social model, it is expected that the theory and practice of rehabilitation will also be applied to educational fields and utilized as measures to support their independence, to promote social participation and consequently to achieve normalization. But neither the support system through rehabilitation in special needs education nor the infrastructure for cultivation of the human resources in charge of the system has been prepared yet. The universities with department of rehabilitation must pave the way in the study for restructuring the relationship between medical care and education on special needs education, as well as in the issue of teacher license as organizations of human resource development
