The purpose of this study was to develop instructional methods that deal with the situation of disengagement in an attempt to maintain bonds within a chum group, and to examine the effectiveness of methods. The results of a pre- and postquestionnaire to the children and analysis of their free writing of their impressions after the class, as well as a class in which they were asked to think from the viewpoints of bystanders, perpetrators, and victims using digital cartoon materials, suggested that the class was able to capture aspects of bullying that attempt to maintain bonds within chum groups. In addition, as a result of analyzing the children's impressions, it was suggested that it may be possible to make the children think about consulting and discussing with adults as actions to change the situation like the material used, and apologizing and supporting the victims as actions against them. In addition, it was suggested that this material could be used to make students aware of actions they should take to prevent bullying and leaving a group out from occurring, such as actions they should take to prevent themselves from becoming perpetrators, and actions they should take when they become bystanders. It was also suggested that this material could be recognized as a possible problem for 5th graders, and could encourage them to face the problem and to think multilaterally and from various angles.departmental bulletin pape

Regional Differences in Low-Temperature and Dryness Tolerance of the Japanese Land Leech (Haemadipsa japonica )

Japanese land leech (Haemadipsa japonica ) is a terrestrial blood-sucking leech distributed throughout Japan and is known to have three genetic lineages. Recent increases in deer populations are believed to have facilitated the spread of the Japanese leech (Haemadipsa japonica). The species has been observed in colder regions where it was not previously reported, suggesting that its range has expanded beyond its known limits. In Japan, which is long and narrow from north to south, both temperature and humidity vary greatly from region to region, and it is expected that there are regional differences in the cold and drought tolerance of the Japanese land leech. In this study, 282 individuals were collected from 10 regions spanning nine prefectures to compare viable and active temperatures among regions and genetic lines, as well as behavior under cold and dry conditions. The results showed that viable temperatures varied greatly among regions, ranging from -3℃ to 2℃. Some individuals in Yakushima, Yamanashi, and Chiba died at 1℃ , while in some areas most individuals survived even at -3℃. The temperature at which they could be active also varied widely from 5℃ to 20℃ . All B2 lineage (Kagoshima and Yakushima) and B1 lineage (Hyogo) individuals went dormant at 10℃ or lower, Kagoshima individuals in particular went dormant even at 15℃ . In contrast, active temperature of lineage A individuals varied among region. Furthermore, leech huddling behavior was observed under dry conditions regardless of temperature, suggesting that it is an adaptive response to desiccation. This tolerance to low temperatures and desiccation may play an important role in the leech's expansion into new habitats.departmental bulletin pape
