No more blind dates with calcite: fluid-flow vs. fault-slip along the Očkov thrust, Prague Basin

Dating of fracture-filling calcite with U-Pb geochronology is becoming a rapidly adopted technique for determining the absolute timing of brittle deformation in the upper crust. Slickenfibre calcite is a desirable target, as it precipitates between individual fault slip displacement events, and provides additional kinematic information. Here we present a case study of slickenfibres formed on the Očkov thrust in the Lower Palaezoic Prague Basin, Bohemian Massif, utilising a combination of petrographic and in situ methods. We demonstrate that slickenfibre external textures can be preserved, whilst internally primary textures are removed by fluid infiltration and recrystallization, leading to variable U and Pb mobilisation. One slickenfibre yielded a date of ca. 250 Ma, which we interpret as recording fault slip along the Očkov thrust. Another cross-cutting slickenfibre yielded more scattered U-Pb data, with an imprecise apparent age around ca. 95 Ma. This slickenfibre is recrystallised, destroying the primary textures, and exhibits element mobility. The meaning of this younger apparent age is therefore questionable; whereas it likely reflects Cretaceous U and Pb mobility assisted by fluid-flow along the fault plane, it may not reflect a period of fault slip. Our results demonstrate that slickenfibre-based U-Pb dates do not unequivocally relate to fault motion, and that petrographic and elemental analyses are important requirements for interpreting calcite U-Pb data

TOI-2046b, TOI-1181b, and TOI-1516b, three new hot Jupiters from TESS: planets orbiting a young star, a subgiant, and a normal star

We present the confirmation and characterization of three hot Jupiters, TOI-1181b, TOI-1516b, and TOI-2046b, discovered by the TESS space mission. The reported hot Jupiters have orbital periods between 1.4 and 2.05 d. The masses of the three planets are 1.18 ± 0.14 MJ, 3.16 ± 0.12 MJ, and 2.30 ± 0.28 MJ, for TOI-1181b, TOI-1516b, and TOI-2046b, respectively. The stellar host of TOI-1181b is a F9IV star, whereas TOI-1516b and TOI-2046b orbit F main sequence host stars. The ages of the first two systems are in the range of 2–5 Gyrs. However, TOI-2046 is among the few youngest known planetary systems hosting a hot Jupiter, with an age estimate of 100–400 Myrs. The main instruments used for the radial velocity follow-up of these three planets are located at Ondřejov, Tautenburg, and McDonald Observatory, and all three are mounted on 2–3 m aperture telescopes, demonstrating that mid-aperture telescope networks can play a substantial role in the follow-up of gas giants discovered by TESS and in the future by PLATO

Defects of large diameter drilled piles

    No full text
High-rise buildings are often based on large-diameter bored piles. Their flaws and faults then affect the behavior of the entire building and can significantly influence the statics. Correct processes is therefore necessary to pay attention. The article describes the most common wrong ways of implementing the recommendations and how to prevent them. The design of piles is based on calculated loads, respectively forces and moments acting on the piles and of parameters of the environment. There may, of course, committed a number of mistakes, but we further assume piles to be designed in accordance with all applicable standards. We will focus mainly on technological progress of the implementation of drilling and concreting piles and show the most common mistakes. Bored piles can be performed using a casing or without them. In most cases, the use of casings is possible. Recommendations how to ensure the quality and to protect the environment are also given

System for Verifying the Minimum Resources Required to Run an Application

The main goal of this bachelor thesis is to create a system for the verifying minimum resources required to run an application. The theoretical part deals with the topic of computer performance evaluation metrics and the principle of operation of the Linux operating system. The practical part describes how the design and implementation of the entire system, which uses BPF (Berkeley Packet Filter) technology, was created. The end of the work is completed by testing and evaluation of the whole work. The system was successfully deployed in the partner company BringAuto. It turned out, that the operating system is powerful enough to run applications

Bachelor's thesis Possibilities of rye and other cereal grains use as brewing adjuncts focuses on minority cereals and their properties relevant for brewing industry, with special regard to rye (Secale cereale) and triticale (× Triticosecale). As available studies suggest, triticale seems to be a promising material to be used in larger quantities as a source of starch, or to complement nitrogen and enzyme poor adjuncts. Rye, on the other hand, is a rather troublesome grain and offers little advantages for an extensive use. Nevertheless, it can be a valuable material for specialty beer production, due to its capability to impart specific flavours. With regard to gluten-free beer production, further attention should be paid to rarely used millets, especilally teff (Eragrostis tef)
