Thesis (Master)--Izmir Institute of Technology, Computer Engineering, Izmir, 2004Includes bibliographical references (leaves: 61-63)Text in English; Abstract: Turkish and Englishix, 70 leavesIn this study of topic .Categorization of Web Sites in Turkey with SVM. after a brief introduction to what the World Wide Web is and a more detailed description of text categorization and web site categorization concepts, categorization of web sites including all prerequisites for classification task takes part. As an information resource the web has an undeniable importance in human life. However the huge structure of the web and its uncontrolled growth led to new information retrieval research areas to be risen in last years. Web mining, the general name of these studies, investigates activities and structures on the web to automatically discover and gather meaningful information from the web documents. It consists of three subfields: .Web Structure Mining., .Web Content Mining. and .Web Usage Mining.. In this project, web content mining concept was applied on the web sites in Turkey during the categorization process. Support Vector Machine, a supervised learning method based on statistics and principle of structural risk minimization is used as the machine learning technique for web site categorization. This thesis is intended to draw a conclusion about web site distributions with respect to thematic categorization based on text. The popular web directory Yahoo.s 12 top level categories were used in this project. Beside of the main purpose, we gathered several statistical descriptive informations about web sites and contents used in html pages. Metatag usage percentages, html design structures and plug-in usage are some of these information. The processes taken through solution, start with employing a web downloader which downloads web page contents and other information such as frame content from each web site. Next, manipulating, parsing and simplifying the downloaded documents takes place. At this point, preperations for categorization task are completed. Then, by applying Support Vector Machine (SVM) package SVMLight developed by Thorsten Joachims, web sites are classified under given categories. The classification results obtained in the last section show that there are some over-lapping categories exist and accuracy and precision values are between 60-80. In addition to categorization results, we saw that almost 17 of web sites utilize html frames and 9367 web sites include metakeywords
Evaluation of Peer Instruction Practices in Accordance with Students’ Views
This study was carried out in order to determine the views of the students about the course material prepared with the Peer Instruction Method in accordance with magnetism. Studies conducted for this purpose are defined as case studies in the literature. The sample of the study consisted of a group of 30 students in 10th grade who were studying at Ordu Science High School during the 2015-2016 academic year. The practice lasted four weeks, 2 hours per week. The data of the study was derived from Attitude Survey, semi-structured interviews, open-ended questions for observations and the observations themselves. The quantitative data obtained in the study were analyzed by the qualitative content analysis method with the help of the SPSS program. At the end of the Peer Instruction Method, it was determined that the students' attitude questionnaire post test scores (X = 130.9) increased and their increase was statistically significant (t = -7.22; p <.05) compared to the pre-test scores (X = 101.46). When the results of the students' opinions and observations are analyzed in detail, the results of the classes conducted by the Peer Instruction Methodology reveals that the students have increased their confidence, improved their ability to comment, have active participation in the classes and have become fun. According to the results obtained with this study, some suggestions were made to the researcher on behalf of the use of different topics in physics considering the positive effect of the Method of Peer Instruction. Macromolecular background signal and non-Gaussian metabolite diffusion determined in human brain using ultra-high diffusion weighting.
PURPOSE
Definition of a macromolecular MR spectrum based on diffusion properties rather than relaxation time differences and characterization of non-Gaussian diffusion of brain metabolites with strongly diffusion-weighted MR spectroscopy.
METHODS
Short echo time MRS with strong diffusion-weighting with b-values up to 25 ms/μm2 at two diffusion times was implemented on a Connectom system and applied in combination with simultaneous spectral and diffusion decay modeling. Motion-compensation was performed with a combined method based on the simultaneously acquired water and a macromolecular signal.
RESULTS
The motion compensation scheme prevented spurious signal decay reflected in very small apparent diffusion constants for macromolecular signal. Macromolecular background signal patterns were determined using multiple fit strategies. Signal decay corresponding to non-Gaussian metabolite diffusion was represented by biexponential fit models yielding parameter estimates for human gray matter that are in line with published rodent data. The optimal fit strategies used constraints for the signal decay of metabolites with limited signal contributions to the overall spectrum.
CONCLUSION
The determined macromolecular spectrum based on diffusion properties deviates from the conventional one derived from longitudinal relaxation time differences calling for further investigation before use as experimental basis spectrum when fitting clinical MR spectra. The biexponential characterization of metabolite signal decay is the basis for investigations into pathologic alterations of microstructure
Magnetic resonance spectroscopy investigation in the right human hippocampus following spinal cord injury.
OBJECTIVE
Preclinical studies have shown that cognitive impairments following spinal cord injury (SCI), such as impaired spatial memory, are linked to inflammation, neurodegeneration, and reduced neurogenesis in the right hippocampus. This cross-sectional study aims to characterize metabolic and macrostructural changes in the right hippocampus and their association to cognitive function in traumatic SCI patients.
METHODS
Within this cross-sectional study, cognitive function was assessed in 28 chronic traumatic SCI patients and 18 age-, sex-, and education-matched healthy controls by a visuospatial and verbal memory test. A magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) and structural MRI protocol was performed in the right hippocampus of both groups to quantify metabolic concentrations and hippocampal volume, respectively. Group comparisons investigated changes between SCI patients and healthy controls and correlation analyses investigated their relationship to memory performance.
RESULTS
Memory performance was similar in SCI patients and healthy controls. The quality of the recorded MR spectra was excellent in comparison to the best-practice reports for the hippocampus. Metabolite concentrations and volume of the hippocampus measured based on MRS and MRI were not different between two groups. Memory performance in SCI patients and healthy controls was not correlated with metabolic or structural measures.
CONCLUSION
This study suggests that the hippocampus may not be pathologically affected at a functional, metabolic, and macrostructural level in chronic SCI. This points toward the absence of significant and clinically relevant trauma-induced neurodegeneration in the hippocampus

MP-PCA denoising for diffusion MRS data: promises and pitfalls.
Diffusion-weighted (DW) magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) suffers from a lower signal to noise ratio (SNR) compared to conventional MRS owing to the addition of diffusion attenuation. This technique can therefore strongly benefit from noise reduction strategies. In the present work, Marchenko-Pastur principal component analysis (MP-PCA) denoising is tested on Monte Carlo simulations and on in vivo DW-MRS data acquired at 9.4T in rat brain and at 3T in human brain. We provide a descriptive study of the effects observed following different MP-PCA denoising strategies (denoising the entire matrix versus using a sliding window), in terms of apparent SNR, rank selection, noise correlation within and across b-values and quantification of metabolite concentrations and fitted diffusion coefficients. MP-PCA denoising yielded an increased apparent SNR, a more accurate B0 drift correction between shots, and similar estimates of metabolite concentrations and diffusivities compared to the raw data. No spectral residuals on individual shots were observed but correlations in the noise level across shells were introduced, an effect which was mitigated using a sliding window, but which should be carefully considered
The evaluation of tourism management curriculum of tourism faculty in Turkey
When the 2023 Turkey Tourism Strategy report action plan is examined, the
emphasis on updating the curriculums of the "Tourism and Hotel Management Department"
comes to the fore. However, there are no thesis studies which are directly related to the
subject. Starting from this point, Tourism Management Bachelor Programs and Hotel
Management Bachelor Programs have been evaluated holistically with a new eclectic
curriculum evaluation model introduced and tried by the researcher for the first time and
brought to the literature. The study has started with a needs analysis. Interviews have been
conducted with the human resources managers of 9 different 5-star hotels in the Manavgat
region. In this way, the data which would be used as the source of measurement tools and
the evaluation model that would be developed and used in the thesis have been collected.
The developed curriculum evaluation model is a mixed type method that includes
quantitative and qualitative methods. As the measurement tool in the quantitative part, the
"Vocational Self-Efficacy Perception Scale of Undergraduate Students of the Tourism
Management Department" developed by the researcher has been used. The Cronbach-α
reliability coefficient of the scale, which consists of 4 dimensions and 26 items, has been
calculated as 0.94.The sample of the quantitative part consists of 321 senior students
studying in Faculties of Tourism, Tourism Management and Hotel Management
departments of Antalya Akdeniz, Alanya Alaaddin Keykubat, Muğla Sıtkı Koçman, Aydın
Adnan Menderes and Ankara Hacı Bayram Universities, which have been determined by the
criterion sampling. The collected data have been analyzed with the package programs of
SPSS 23, JASP 0.11.1 full version and demo version of AMOS 22. In this context, tests and
multiple regression analyzes have been performed in order of; exploratory and confirmatory
factor analysis, percentage, frequency, multiple agreement analysis, independent t test,
ANOVA test. In the qualitative part, lecturers interview forms, student interview forms and
photographs have been analyzed within the scope of document analysis. On the other hand,
ix
the study group of the qualitative part consists of students and lecturers working in the
relevant faculties of the universities mentioned above. In qualitative analysis, NVivo 10 and
MAXQDA 2020 demo package programs have been used. The data have been subjected to
word frequency analysis and content analysis.
In conclusion, the lack of internship and the disconnection of the program from the
sector stand out in the needs analysis. Cooperation with academy is expected in the sector.
The expectation of the sector from the academy is foreign language speaking qualified
personnel. In the quantitative findings, it has been determined that the students working in
the front office and service bar departments of the hotels increased their self-efficacy
perceptions as the percentage of their English education received during their university
education increased. In fact, the fact that the students studying in departments with 100%
English education have the highest self-efficacy perceptions about the front office
department is another finding confirming this situation. Similarly, there is a significant
relationship between self-efficacy perceptions towards the service bar department and the
level of English education they receive. However, no relationship has been found between
these variables and self-efficacy in the housekeeping department. On the contrary, there is
an inverse correlation between the weight ratio of English in education and self-efficacy in
this department. On the other hand, when we look at the situation in the food and beverage
department, the gender, sectoral experience and English education of the students do not
have any effect. For this reason, it is thought that it would be beneficial if the 4-year
education in the faculties consists of common courses in the form of an associate degree
program in the first 2 years, and the branching of the students is determined within the scope
of the needs analysis and for these departments of the hotels where they will be employed
when they graduate, in the 3rd and 4th grades. Internship and English-based education can
be given to students who will work in the front office, service and bar departments in 3rd
and 4th grades. In addition to the EW (equally-weighted) score, the language score may be
required for students to be admitted to these departments. In the current study, it has been
determined that being a tourism high school graduate makes a significant difference for
some departments. For the departments that require specialization for these departments,
tourism high school graduation may be required. For the other two departments, on the other
hand, it may be considered to practice more on-the-job training and less theoretical lectures.
In line with the findings of the SWOT analysis made in the qualitative part and the views of
the instructors, it has been determined that the strength of the program is "excess of job
x
opportunities", the weak aspect of the program is "not responding to the sector needs", the
opportunity aspect is "employment oriented", and the threat aspect is "potential employment
contraction in the future".As a result of the SWOT analysis conducted on the students, it has
been determined that "student exchange programs" are the strengths of the program,
"practical courses" are the weak aspects, "good job opportunities" are the opportunity aspect
(at this point, it also coincide with the lecturers), "the increase in the number of faculty" is
the threat aspect. For this reason, it is possible to propose a capacity limit by the Council of
Higher Education (CoHE), opening these faculties only in tourism cities, and closing the
faculties that currently have few students. In the needs analysis and qualitative findings, it
has been stated by the instructors and students that intensity of the theoretical courses are
high and the applied courses are less in the programİÇİNDEKİLER

The Reasons of Students Doing Athletics in Secondary Scholl Tending to Athletics and Their Expectations
The general purpose of this research is to determine the reasons of Turkish students interested in athletics why they choose this sport and their expectations. With this aim, some necessary information was given by reviewing of some literatures related with this subject. Also, a questionnaire was applied to student-athletes to find some solutions for the problem of this search. The population of the study involved the student-athletes having licence. However; since the numbers of these sportsman is too much, it couldn‘t be reached to all of them. Therefore, the sample groups were used. In order to this, the students, having licence in the secondary schools, were randomly chosen. As statistical analysis in evaluation at opinions of the student-athletes, frequency, percentage of data, were done by SPSS statistical program. In conclusion, the people orienting the students to the athletics mostly is the physical education teachers. One of the outcomes of this research is that mass media does not give enough support to the athletics. The majority of the students doing athletics have the same reasons; deriving pleasure from success, being interested in athletics and being populer among their friends. Lastly, the most important expectations of the student-athletes are being a physical education teacher, being a student in the sports departmant of a university, being a national athlete and represent our country
