Thesis (Master)--Izmir Institute of Technology, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Izmir, 2010Includes bibliographical references (leaves: 83-85)Text in English; Abstract: Turkish and Englishxi, 85 leavesA laser microphone is a surveillance device that uses a laser beam to detect sound vibrations in a distant object. The object is typically inside a room where a conversation is taking place, and can be anything that can vibrate (for example, picture or window) in response to the sound waves of the conversation. The object preferably has a smooth surface. The laser beam is directed into the room through a window, reflected off the object and returned to a receiver that converts the beam to audio signal. The beam is mostly bounced off the window itself. Usually these kinds of devices are used by surveillance intelligence in some parts of governments and these kinds of weapons analyze the laser beam which reflects from window. In this thesis a countermeasure to the detection of laser beam is analyzed. In order to make this possible, the reflection from dielectric stratified surfaces of a Gaussian laser beam needs to be described. The reflected beam profile of electromagnetic radiation exposes to various effects different from reflected plane waves. Gaussian beams which reflect from a dielectric slab experience in a shifting maximum point in one direction; lateral shift, focal shift and angular divergence are the shift and distortion of the beam profile. The Gaussian beam propagates in z direction and broadens in transverse plane, in two dimensions and is decomposed into plane wave components. Upon analyzing the reflection coefficient and beam profile, reduction of beam power after reflection from stratified films is described

Successful Retrieval of Stripped Coronary Stents Using the Twisted Guide Wire Technique

Stent stripping during percutaneous coronary intervention is a rare but serious complication. The patient was admitted to the emergency department with chest pain. Electrocardiography revealed ST elevations in the anterolateral leads. The patient was urgently taken to the catheter laboratory. A guiding catheter without a hole was used to imagine the left coronary system. To avoid dumping, two holes were manually drilled into the distal region of the catheter with the needle tip. Occlusion was observed in the proximal region of left anterior descending artery. It was decided to implant a stent. However, when the stent arrived distal in the catheter, strain was felt. When the stent was advanced to the left main coronary artery (LMCA), it was observed that the stent detached from its balloon in the LMCA. It was planned to remove the stent using the twisted guide wire technique. In this technique, the guide wire inside the stripped stent lumen was not retracted. A second guide wire was advanced distally outside the stent lumen. Subsequently, these two parallel wires were twisted 10-15 times until the stent was trapped by the guide wires with the help of the torquer device. Twisted wires were pulled back. While the wires were retrieving, the trapped stent between guide wires was pulled back. Subsequently, a new stent was successfully implanted into the lesion. After the procedure, the damaged catheter and the removed stent were investigated. The distal inner lumen of the guiding catheters not smooth at the edges of the manually opened side holes because of protrusions. It was thought that the stent was stuck to these inner protrusions of the holes and detached from the balloon. Manually drilling a hole in the guiding catheter or any intervention disrupting the structure of the catheter should be avoided. The twisted guide wire technique is an alternative and effective method to retrieve a stripped stent

Although amiodarone appears to have few pro-arrhythmic effects, torsade de pointes (TdP) has been observed after administration of a low dose and short term use of oral amiodarone, in the absence of predisposing factors. We describe the case of a 41-year-old woman admitted to hospital because of a cardiac arrest from TdP. On hospital admission, ECG showed sinus bradycardia 46 bpm with marked QT prolongation

We use fuzziness tools for describing the ambiguity. Fuzzy Logic Image processing has been used for describing this fuzziness of the results of the human brain. The location of the corner and location of the edge of the object have been recognized in gray values of pixels also classified of gray values of pixels.  Answers of these questions have been considered, as fuzzy logic algorithm of image processing must have been used for in image processing algorithms. Image matching algorithms have been used for problem solving by statistical approaches. Herein, a new approach has been suggested and expert systems have been defined. In this study, image matching which is based on fuzzy logic algorithms is recommended. This is photogrammetric application based on fuzzy logic methodology. In order to solve the matching problem between an image patch and the model,  a control point description is developed and a software is prepared based on  fuzzy logic algorithm. This technique determines the corresponding topological and geometrical relations features of target. Software searches near the target and estimates the true pixel coordinates. This method requires some a-priori information like approximate orientation parameters and image overlap. Accuracy depends on the accuracy of a-priori information. Keywords: Fuzzy logic, image matching, structure image matching
