Institutional Logics and Political Networks: A Theoretical Framework for Academic Staffing in Newly-Founded Management Departments in Turkey

This article develops a conceptual framework for explaining how individual embeddedness in multiple institutional logics at the field level and in political networks at the societal level influence managerial decisions within organizations. By considering the institutional and political environments surrounding management departments in newly founded universities in Turkey, we propose that the degrees of individual decision-maker’s embeddedness in alternative institutional logics (single vs multiple) and in different political networks (closed vs open) influence their decisions on hiring new academicians. We consider that organizational actors’ instantiations of logics together with political networks delineate their identities. Accordingly, decision-makers embedded in a single logic and/or a closed network will tend to hire academicians similar to themselves whereas those embedded in multiple logics and/or an open network will be more likely to hire academicians different from themselves. We also elaborate our conceptual framework by considering the influences of logic-related networks, decoupling in academic staffing, geographic locations and ownership of universities. By doing so, we first contribute to a better explanation of institutional and political diversities in academic cadres in management departments in new Turkish universities. Second, we expand micro-level view of institutional logics by integrating societal level political networks into the analysis

Effects of Lower Urinary Truct Symptoms on Quality of Life and Complementary Treatments in Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple Sclerosis pattients suffer from physiological, psychological and social depending on the type and course of the disease. lower urinary tract symptoms is one of these physiological problems. These symptoms affect the person physiologically, psychologically and socially. Problems such as urinary incontinence, frequency, urgency, incontinence, retantion completely affect daily life of patients. These patients are socially isolated from the society because of frequency, incontinence. However, they limit fluid intake. Multiple sclerosis patients have to restrict shopping, meeting with friends and other social activities due to urinary symptoms. Urinary tract infection associated with low fluid intake and retention is more common in multiple sclerosis than the normal population. Lower urinary symptoms that seen in multiple sclerosis limit the patients life and negatively affect quality of life. In order to eliminate these complaints and increase the quality of life of the patients, these complaints can be minimized by initially bladder training, pelvic floor muscle exercises, nerve stimulation or catheter use. While bladder training extends urination intervals of the patients, pelvic floor muscle exercises reduce the lower urinary tract symptoms by strengthening the muscles. Neuromodulation aims to reduce lower urinary truct symptoms by suppressing neural impulses. Catheter use takes an important role in patients with urinary retention or urinary incontinence. With the catheter used, lower urinary truct symptoms are reduced

Predictions of the Electric Field Emissions around Power Transmission Lines by Using Artificial Neural Network Methods

    Get PDF
In this study, Artificial Neural Network (ANN) Algorithms are used to estimate the electric field that occurred around the power transmission lines as an alternative approach.  Firstly, electric field levels around the high voltage power transmission lines are measured, and then analytically calculated. Moreover, the field levels that occurred around these power lines have been predicted by using multilayer perceptron artificial neural network, radial basis function, and generalized regression neural network models. In the paper, 154 kV typical power transmission line used in Turkey are studied. Electric field levels occurred around the power transmission lines have been predicted with ANN models with high accuracy, particularly MLPNN algorithm predicted the electric field intensity with very high precision

Conference: Congress of the European-Academy-of-Allergy-and-Clinical-Immunology (EAACI) Location: Lisbon, PORTUGAL Date: JUN 01-05, 2019Background : Food allergies impose a significant burden on the life of the child and the family. In this study, to determine the demographic characteristics of food allergies, we investigated the characteristics of patients with food allergies in different regions of Pediatric Allergy- Immunology departments in Turkey. Method : Turkey ' s National Study of Allergy and Clinical Immunology Society has conducted a Study Group on Food Allergies. 25 centers participated in this multicenter, cross- sectional and descriptive study.European Academy of Allergy and Clinical Immunolog
