Comments on large-N volume independence
We study aspects of the large-N volume independence on R**3 x L**G, where
L**G is a G-site lattice for Yang-Mills theory with adjoint Wilson-fermions. We
find the critical number of lattice sites above which the center-symmetry
analysis on L**G agrees with the one on the continuum S**1. For Wilson
parameter set to one and G>=2, the two analyses agree. One-loop radiative
corrections to Wilson-line masses are finite, reminiscent of the
UV-insensitivity of the Higgs mass in deconstruction/Little-Higgs theories.
Even for theories with G=1, volume independence in QCD(adj) may be guaranteed
to work by tuning one low-energy effective field theory parameter. Within the
parameter space of the theory, at most three operators of the 3d effective
field theory exhibit one-loop UV-sensitivity. This opens the analytical
prospect to study 4d non-perturbative physics by using lower dimensional field

Continuity, Deconfinement, and (Super) Yang-Mills Theory
We study the phase diagram of SU(2) Yang-Mills theory with one adjoint Weyl
fermion on R^3xS^1 as a function of the fermion mass m and the compactification
scale L. This theory reduces to thermal pure gauge theory as m->infinity and to
circle-compactified (non-thermal) supersymmetric gluodynamics in the limit
m->0. In the m-L plane, there is a line of center symmetry changing phase
transitions. In the limit m->infinity, this transition takes place at
L_c=1/T_c, where T_c is the critical temperature of the deconfinement
transition in pure Yang-Mills theory. We show that near m=0, the critical
compactification scale L_c can be computed using semi-classical methods and
that the transition is of second order. This suggests that the deconfining
phase transition in pure Yang-Mills theory is continuously connected to a
transition that can be studied at weak coupling. The center symmetry changing
phase transition arises from the competition of perturbative contributions and
monopole-instantons that destabilize the center, and topological molecules
(neutral bions) that stabilize the center. The contribution of molecules can be
computed using supersymmetry in the limit m=0, and via the
Bogomolnyi--Zinn-Justin (BZJ) prescription in the non-supersymmetric gauge
theory. Finally, we also give a detailed discussion of an issue that has not
received proper attention in the context of N=1 theories---the non-cancellation
of nonzero-mode determinants around supersymmetric BPS and KK
monopole-instanton backgrounds on R^3xS^1. We explain why the non-cancellation
is required for consistency with holomorphy and supersymmetry and perform an
explicit calculation of the one-loop determinant ratio.Comment: A discussion of the non-cancellation of the nonzero mode determinants

A novel network data envelopment analysis model for performance measurement of Turkish electric distribution companies
Electric distribution companies have a significant role for both households and industries. Benchmarking of the electric distribution companies in the energy sector has become a subject that is studied widely nowadays due to the effect of privatization policies for developing countries. Since there are multiple production stages regarding the generation and supply procedures of electric power, Network DEA technique is used. Directional Distance Function is also integrated into Network DEA technique. Electric distribution companies are organizations that are aiming at maximizing profit while minimizing the expenses. The main problem is how the profit idea can be integrated into the evaluation process. The aim of the proposed model is to evaluate profit efficiency of electric distribution companies while taking into account expansion cost for additional energy supply. This two stage approach is applied to Turkish electric distribution companies. Results are presented based on radial and profit efficiency measures. The proposed model is demonstrates realistic results by considering the expenses and incomes of distribution companies

The effects of exhaustive swimming and probiotic administration in trained rats: Oxidative balance of selected organs, colon morphology, and contractility
The duration and intensity of exercise are significant factors in oxidative, morphological, and functional changes of the gastrointestinal tract. This study aimed to investigate the effects of both exhaustive swimming and probiotic VSL#3 on rats that had been previously trained with moderate swimming. The rats were divided into four groups labeled: control (C), probiotic (P), exercise (E), and probiotic–exercise (PE). Groups P and PE were fed with probiotic mixture VSL#3. Groups E and PE had a 5-week moderate swimming program (1 h/day for 5 days/week), followed by a 1-week exhaustive swimming program (trained like in moderate program but 3 times with 150 min resting sessions, for 5 days/week). At the end of the program, the rats were euthanized. Malondialdehyde, superoxide dismutase, catalase, and reduced glutathione levels were measured in tissue samples from the gastrocnemius muscle, heart, liver, kidney, and colon. In vitro contractile activity and histomorphology of the colon were also determined. Exercise and/or probiotic decreased the oxidative stress and also increased the level of one or more of the antioxidant enzymes in some of the organs. Probiotics had more pronounced effects on colon morphology than exercise but unexpectedly this effect was non-trophic. In the colon, the thickness of the tunica muscularis and the number of goblet cells were not affected; however, probiotic administration decreased the crypt depth and tunica mucosa thickness. Exercise increased the Emax value of acetylcholine (ACh), while decreased its sensitivity. These findings suggest that exhaustive swimming does not cause oxidative stress and that probiotic consumption improves oxidative balance in trained rats. The probiotic intake does not alter the effect of exercise on the contractile activity of the colon. Colon mucosal changes induced by probiotics are independent of exercise
Two-dimensional N=(2,2) super Yang-Mills theory on computer
We carry out preliminary numerical study of Sugino's lattice formulation
\cite{Sugino:2004qd,Sugino:2004qdf} of the two-dimensional
super Yang-Mills theory (2d SYM) with the gauge group
\SU(2). The effect of dynamical fermions is included by re-weighting a
quenched ensemble by the pfaffian factor. It appears that the complex phase of
the pfaffian due to lattice artifacts and flat directions of the classical
potential are not problematic in Monte Carlo simulation. Various one-point
supersymmetric Ward-Takahashi (WT) identities are examined for lattice spacings
up to with the fixed physical lattice size , where
denotes the gauge coupling constant in two dimensions. WT identities implied by
an exact fermionic symmetry of the formulation are confirmed in fair accuracy
and, for most of these identities, the quantum effect of dynamical fermions is
clearly observed. For WT identities expected only in the continuum limit, the
results seem to be consistent with the behavior expected from supersymmetry,
although we do not see clear distintion from the quenched simulation. We
measure also the expectation values of renormalized gauge-invariant bi-linear

The effects of swimming exercise and probiotic vsl#3 on zonulin and some inflammatory and oxidative parameters in rats
Moderate exercise stimulates immune system whereas intensive exercise may display immune-suppressive effect associated with the
disruption of intestinal barrier. With this study, we tested the effects of moderate and intensive swimming exercises on some cytokines and
oxidant variables and zonulin, an intestinal barrier marker, in rats. We also tested possible ameliorative effects of probiotic VSL#3 in both
moderate and intensive exercise regimens. Twenty eight rats were randomly divided into 4 equal groups: Control-C, Probiotic-P, Exercise-E,
Probiotic+Exercise-PE. The rats in group E and PE underwent moderate swimming exercise for 5 weeks. Following this period, intensive
swimming exercise was performed for 5 days. The rats in group C and group P were sedentary. Probiotic VSL#3 was given to group P and
PE in the water. At the end of the experiments, serum zonulin, TNF-α, IL-6, IL-10, TGF-β, MDA, and protein carbonyl levels were determined.
Evidences obtained from present study indicate that moderate swimming exercise improves barrier integrity of intestine and decreases
oxidative stress. During the moderate swimming experiment, probiotic VSL#3 supplementation may also improve inflammatory response.
On the other hand, intensive exercise does not led changes in the inflammatory response and oxidative stress, but beneficial responses of
moderate exercise on the selected parameters probably disappear due to the intense exercise-induced mild stress
Deformed matrix models, supersymmetric lattice twists and N=1/4 supersymmetry
A manifestly supersymmetric nonperturbative matrix regularization for a
twisted version of N=(8,8) theory on a curved background (a two-sphere) is
constructed. Both continuum and the matrix regularization respect four exact
scalar supersymmetries under a twisted version of the supersymmetry algebra. We
then discuss a succinct Q=1 deformed matrix model regularization of N=4 SYM in
d=4, which is equivalent to a non-commutative orbifold lattice
formulation. Motivated by recent progress in supersymmetric lattices, we also
propose a N=1/4 supersymmetry preserving deformation of N=4 SYM theory on
. In this class of N=1/4 theories, both the regularized and continuum
theory respect the same set of (scalar) supersymmetry. By using the equivalence
of the deformed matrix models with the lattice formulations, we give a very
simple physical argument on why the exact lattice supersymmetry must be a
subset of scalar subalgebra. This argument disagrees with the recent claims of

Compact Gauge Fields for Supersymmetric Lattices
We show that a large class of Euclidean extended supersymmetric lattice gauge
theories constructed in [hep-lat/0302017 - hep-lat/0503039] can be regarded as
compact formulations by using the polar decomposition of the complex link
fields. In particular, the gauge part of the supersymmetric lattice action is
the standard Wilson action. This formulation facilitates the construction of
