Optical qubit generation by state truncation using an experimentally feasible scheme

    Get PDF
Generation of arbitrary superposition of vacuum and one-photon states using quantum scissors device (QSD) is studied. The device allows the preparation of states by truncating an input coherent light. Optimum values of the intensity of the coherent light for the generation of any desired state using the experimentally feasible QSD scheme are found.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figure

Abstract A new unsymmetric Schiff base [(2OH)R-CH=N-(C6H4)-CH=N-R'(2OH) R=phenyl, R' = naphthyl] with its Fe(III) and Ni(II) complexes were synthesized by a two step method. Diimine Schiff base and its complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, mass spectra, IR, 1H/13C-NMR spectra, TGA analysis, electronic and magnetic measurements. The phenol-imine and keto-amine tautomerism of the unsymmetric Schiff base was investigated with NMR techniques and UV-visible spectra in different solvents. Also, the protonation constants of the ligand and the stability constants of its Ni(II) and Fe(III) complexes were determined potentiometrically in 1:1(v/v) ethanol-water mixture at an ionic strength of 0.5 mol·L-1 KCl and at 25.0 ± 0.1 oC. The antifungal, antimicrobial activities and the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values of the compounds were evaluated against Escherichia coli (0157:H7), Micrococcus luteus (NRRLB 4975), Bacillus cereus (RSKK 863) and Candida albicans (ATCC 16231).

Background and Design: Psoriasis is a chronic, inflammatory disease that occurs with polygenic and other triggering factors. The association of psoriasis, which is considered to be a systemic disease, with other diseases, such as cardiovascular diseases, hepatosteatosis, obesity, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia has been shown. Materials and Methods: In this study, we compared the levels of fasting blood glucose, serum lipid (total cholesterol, HDL cholesterol, triglyceride), basal insulin, insulin resistance and body mass index as well as cigarette and alcohol consumption in 50 adult patients with those in 50 age- and gender-matched non-psoriatic controls. Results: In our study, metabolic syndrome was present in 62% patients with psoriasis, compared with 24% of the controls (p<0,001). In psoriatic patients with metabolic syndrome PASI median value was 13,6, whereas patients without metabolic syndrome PASI median value was 11,2 and the difference was statistically significant (p<0,001). Conclusion: In our study, the frequency of metabolic syndrome and its components diabetes mellitus, obesity, hypertension, and dyslipidemia were found to be higher in patients with psoriasis compared to that in non-psoriatic controls

Experimental ancilla-assisted qubit transmission against correlated noise using quantum parity checking

We report the experimental demonstration of a transmission scheme of photonic qubits over unstabilized optical fibers, which has the plug-and-play feature as well as the ability to transmit any state of a qubit, regardless of whether it is known, unknown, or entangled to other systems. A high fidelity to the noiseless quantum channel was achieved by adding an ancilla photon after the signal photon within the correlation time of the fiber noise and by performing quantum parity checking. Simplicity, maintenance-free feature and robustness against path-length mismatches among the nodes make our scheme suitable for multi-user quantum communication networks.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figures; published in New J. An Analysis of the Quantum Penny Flip Game using Geometric Algebra

We analyze the quantum penny flip game using geometric algebra and so determine all possible unitary transformations which enable the player Q to implement a winning strategy. Geometric algebra provides a clear visual picture of the quantum game and its strategies, as well as providing a simple and direct derivation of the winning transformation, which we demonstrate can be parametrized by two angles. For comparison we derive the same general winning strategy by conventional means using density matrices.Comment: 8 Pages, 1 Figure, accepted for publication in the Journal of Physical Society of Japa

A macroscopic comparison study on main branches of arteria brachialis and arteria subscapularis in Southern Karaman and Hasak sheep breeds

Background: The Southern Karaman sheep, which is very fertile in terms of meat and milk production and is often preferred in livestock raising, is known as a domestic sheep breed. The Hasak sheep is a breed formed by the triple crossbreeding of the German Black-headed, Hampshire and Akkaraman breeds. Arterial feeding of the forelimb is provided by arteria axillaris, a continuation of arteria subclavia. In this study, it was aimed to examine the forelimb arteries in Southern Karaman and Hasak sheep breeds. Materials and methods: Totally, 8 Southern Karaman and 8 Hasak sheep were obtained from Konya Bahri Dagdas International Agricultural Institute. The sheep were anesthetised with xylazine and ketamine and extravasated by cutting the arteria carotis communis in the neck area of the sheep. The forelimbs of the sheep separated from the body were fixed in 10% formaldehyde solution and then dissections were made and the course and branching of the arteries were examined. Results: It was determined that the arteria brachialis was divided into two main branches as distal arteria brachialis and proximal arteria subscapularis at the articulatio humeri level of the arteria axillary. Arteria mediana, which is a continuation of arteria brachialis, was also examined in different parts of antebrachium and ended by splitting into branches. Conclusions: According to the findings of the Southern Karaman and Hasak sheep breeds, it was determined that the forelimb arteries had some anatomical differences but were similar in structure to many sheep breeds

The Role of Immune Checkpoint Inhibitors in Metastatic Pancreatic Cancer: Current State and Outlook.

    Get PDF
Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is one of the deadliest tumors, characterized by its aggressive tumor biology and poor prognosis. While immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) play a major part in the treatment algorithm of various solid tumors, there is still no evidence of clinical benefit from ICI in patients with metastatic PDAC (mPDAC). This might be due to several reasons, such as the inherent low immunogenicity of pancreatic cancer, the dense stroma-rich tumor microenvironment that precludes an efficient migration of antitumoral effector T cells to the cancer cells, and the increased proportion of immunosuppressive immune cells, such as regulatory T cells (Tregs), cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs), and myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs), facilitating tumor growth and invasion. In this review, we provide an overview of the current state of ICIs in mPDAC, report on the biological rationale to implement ICIs into the treatment strategy of pancreatic cancer, and discuss preclinical studies and clinical trials in this field. Additionally, we shed light on the challenges of implementing ICIs into the treatment strategy of PDAC and discuss potential future directions

Spinning cosmic strings: a general class of solutions

In this work, we give a general class of solutions of the spinning cosmic string in Einstein's theory of gravity. After treating same problem in Einstein Cartan (EC) theory of gravity, the exact solution satisfying both exterior and interior space-times representing a spin fluid moving along the symmetry axis is presented in the EC theory. The existence of closed timelike curves in this spacetime are also examined

Coalitions in the quantum Minority game: classical cheats and quantum bullies

In a one-off Minority game, when a group of players agree to collaborate they gain an advantage over the remaining players. We consider the advantage obtained in a quantum Minority game by a coalition sharing an initially entangled state versus that obtained by a coalition that uses classical communication to arrive at an optimal group strategy. In a model of the quantum Minority game where the final measurement basis is randomized, quantum coalitions outperform classical ones when carried out by up to four players, but an unrestricted amount of classical communication is better for larger coalition sizes.Comment: 12 pages, 1 figur

    A Thermo-mechanical cohesive zone model

    Get PDF
In this paper, a cohesive zone formulation that is suitable for the thermo-mechanical analysis of heterogeneous solids and structural systems with contacting/interacting components, is presented. Well established traction-opening relations are adopted and combined with micromechanically motivated heat flux-opening relations reflecting the evolving heat transfer through the interfaces. The finite element approach for a coupled analysis within an operator-split solution framework is presented and demonstrated with an example problem
