    A generalized particle swarm optimization using reverse direction information

    In this study, an improved particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm, including 4 types of new velocity updating formulae (each is equal to the traditional PSO), was introduced. This algorithm was called the reverse direction supported particle swarm optimization (RDS-PSO) algorithm. The RDS-PSO algorithm has the potential to extend the diversity and generalization of traditional PSO by regulating the reverse direction information adaptively. To implement this extension, 2 new constants were added to the velocity update equation of the traditional PSO, and these constants were regulated through 2 alternative procedures, i.e. max{min-based and cosine amplitude-based diversity-evaluating procedures. The 4 most commonly used benchmark functions were used to test the general optimization performances of the RDS-PSO algorithm with 3 different velocity updates, RDS-PSO without a regulating procedure, and the traditional PSO with linearly increasing/decreasing inertia weight. All PSO algorithms were also implemented in 4 modes, and their experimental results were compared.     New cubic self-dual codes of length 54, 60 and 66

    We study the construction of quasi-cyclic self-dual codes, especially of binary cubic ones. We consider the binary quasi-cyclic codes of length 3\ell with the algebraic approach of [9]. In particular, we improve the previous results by constructing 1 new binary [54, 27, 10], 6 new [60, 30, 12] and 50 new [66, 33, 12] cubic self-dual codes.     In this study, there are three key topics are explored and discussed. It is first and foremost vital to examine whether the series in question is appropriate for viewers who are older than eight years old. In the second evaluation, it is examined whether contemporary realities and literary narratives have any overlap. This implies that issues related to history, society, psychology, and modernity are approached from a fresh angle. Last but not least, it has to do with the potential social effects of adjusting historical tales to the present. This entails reassessing the past or historical narratives from the viewpoint of the present. However, the key inquiry is: How closely does a film's core meaning align with the meaning that is revealed after seeing it? What about a movie's relevance alters when it's watched again after some time? This study addresses the film-audience connection in two separate ways under the category of "meaning." The relationship between the meaning that viewers derive from the movie's content while watching it is the main topic of discussion.     VALUING APPLES: FROM THE MYSTIC APPLE TO THE DIGITAL APPLES OF THE 21st CENTURY

    Apple is one of the first pieces of food mentioned in the earliest stories and books of mankind and different values were attributed to apple throughout the whole history. Various societies contributed to the appreciation of it placing it in their lullabies or fairy tales as well as in their daily communication and diet. Even if it seems to be so common, humble, and accessible, the lack of it is also interpreted in different ways. Yet, nowadays, it became one of the main foods of the 21st century as well. Following a quantitative and descriptive methodology and analyzing the values attributed to Apple, this paper provides a glimpse of its history and aims to analyze the ‘Apple’ case in Turkey regarding it not only as a ‘mystic’ product affecting the whole humanity but also as an agricultural product to be paid attention with the new trends in food processing in its developing aspects. Whereas the agricultural people spend more time and energy in producing better crops all around the world, the apple case in Turkey puts a shade on modernity placing apple growers away from sustainability, innovation, and productivity. Dwelling on the media coverage of the past few years regarding the apple as a content, the paper aims to introduce the main value of the apple as a product of agriculture and handles the problem of what to do in the case of apple production in its modern sense. Field research is enriched as to provide qualitative reports based on the focus group discussions and interviews with the apple producers and decision-makers as to put forward how apple is priced or degraded. In conclusion, it provides a needs analysis format, a systematic approach to the problem as a process of identifying and evaluating the apple case. As the results put forward, growing apples require valuing them. It also requires better-established facts, better-trained people, and concentrating more on the specific needs of employees, customers, suppliers, etc. These needs are often referred to as “gaps,” or the difference between what is currently done and what should be performed. So, re-valuing apples requires to bridge the gap between the mystic apples and the digital apples of the 21st century. Today’s farmers, should become a part of the network, enrich their cultivation methodology and innovation capacities as to reach to precision agriculture substructure and techniques to be able to become a part of the smart agriculture.     Estimated the amount of air void in concrete using image processing technique

    Image processing methods have been widely used in civil engineering recently. Image processing is reproducing the processes people got via their own vision system by digitizing. The aim of this study is to define air void values of different concrete specifies with image processing methods. With this purpose seven different concrete series have been produced by using different water/cement rates. Physical and mechanical tests have been applied on the samples acquired. Additively air void ratios have been calculated after section images obtained from hardened concrete surfaces are processed. Relations between the results obtained as a result of image processing method and pressure resistance values of the acquired concrete samples have been examined. Consequentially it has been observed that air void values in the concrete obtained by using image processing techniques may be estimated with a high correlation

    Dynamics and chatter stability of multi delay machining systems

    Machining is an industrial process in which parts are shaped by removal of unwanted material in the forms of chips. Manufacturing industry today demands shorter production times and high quality parts at competitive cost. Increased MRR (material removal rate) in milling and turning may provide high productivity but elevated forces and vibrations are still major obstacles to fulfill these requirements. Chatter vibrations may limit the full potential of machining productivity. In this thesis, chatter stability of multi delay systems is investigated. As examples of multi delay systems, variable tooth spacing tools such as variable pitch and helix milling cutters and parallel milling operations are investigated. Although there are few studies about the chatter stability of variable tooth spacing tools, no work has been reported on optimum design for a given cutting condition. Optimization studies are carried out to determine the optimum variable tool geometry and a new design methodology is presented. Moreover, for parallel milling operations, an analytical solution methodology which is based on frequency domain analysis is proposed to solve the chatter stability for the first time in the literature. Optimum cutting conditions are identified and effects of process parameters and workpiece dynamics on the chatter stability of parallel milling are shown. Since the operation contains single time delay, optimization studies are carried out to determine the optimum cutter dynamic properties in parallel turning.     TAHRİBATSIZ TEST SONUÇLARI KULLANILARAK UÇUCU KÜL İKAMELİ BETONLARDA BASINÇ DAYANIMININ ANFIS İLE TAHMİNİ

    Bu araştırmada, tahribatsız test sonuçları kullanılarak uçucu kül ikameli betonlarda basınç dayanımının tahmini için uyarlamalı sinirsel bulanık mantık (ANFIS) yöntemiyle bir model geliştirilmesi amaçlanmaktadır. Bu kapsamda, Orhaneli termik santralinden elde edilmiş F sınıf uçucu kül beton içerisine çimento ağırlığının % 0-5-10-20 ve 30 oranlarında ikame edilerek 5 farklı beton karışımının her birinden 12 adet deney numunesi hazırlanmıştır. Numunelerin 6 adetinde tahribatsız deneyler diğer numunelerde ise tahribatlı deneyler yapılmıştır. 7. ve 28. günlerde pull-off, ultrases geçiş hızı ve basınç dayanımı deneyleri gerçekleştirilmiştir. ANFIS ile modellemede elde edilen deneysel sonuçlardan 3 tanesi numunedeki vibrasyon hatası nedeniyle elenerek toplam 60 adet deney verisinin 57 tanesi kullanılmıştır. Bu deneysel sonuçlardan beton yaşı, pull-off ve ultrases geçiş hızı geliştirilen modelin girdisi olarak basınç dayanımı ise modelin çıktısı olarak kullanılmıştır. Geliştirilen ANFIS modeli ile tahmin edilen basınç dayanımları gerçek basınç dayanımı değerleri ile karşılaştırılarak modelin tahmin yeteneği test edilmiştir. Sonuç olarak, geliştirilen ANFIS modeli ile tahribatsız test deney sonuçlarıyla eğitilen beton basınç dayanımı değerinin düşük bir hata oranı ile tahmin edebildiği görülmüştür

    Stiren-Bütadien Kopolimer Katkısının Çimento Harçlarına Etkisi

    Beton üretiminde çoğunlukla yeni kuşak kimyasal katkılar kullanılmaktadır. Dağıtma (dispersiyon) gücü yüksek olan kimyasal katkıların beton içerisinde belirli oranlarda kullanılması esastır. Kimyasal katkı içeriği uygun kullanılmadığı takdirde, taze ve sertleşmiş beton özellikleri etkilenmektedir. Çalışmada, akışkanlaştırıcı (%1) ilavesi ile Stiren Bütadien Kopolimer (SBR) katkısının çimento harçlarına etkisi araştırılmıştır. Bu amaçla, çimento harçlarına ağırlıkça SBR ilavesi (0%SBR (Kontrol), 5%SBR, 10%SBR, 15%SBR ve %100SBR) ile elde edilmiş deney numunelerinin fiziksel, kimyasal ve mekanik özellikleri incelenmiştir. Ayrıca, numunelerin SEM-EDS analizleri yapılmıştır. Çalışmanın sonucunda, %5 Stiren Bütadien Kopolimer katkısının çimento harçlarının basınç dayanımına olumlu etkisi olduğu görülmüştür

    Sodyum Tripolifosfat (Na5P3O10)’ın çimento harçlarının mühendislik özelliklerine etkisi

    Sodyum tripolifosfat; gıda sektörü ve deterjan üretiminde pH değerini artırmak için kullanılan inorganik bir tuz olup; ayrıca dispersiyon ajanı, stabilizatör ve su yumuşatıcı olarak da kullanılmaktadır.  Bu çalışmada, sodyum tripolifosfat çözeltisini karışım suyu olarak içeren çimento pastalarının ve çimento harçlarının mühendislik özellikleri araştırılmıştır. Deneysel çalışmada, bir tanesi distile su içeren iki tür çimento pastası ve çimento harcı karışımı hazırlanmıştır. İkinci karışımda, sodyum tripolifosfat distile suyun %3’ ü kadar kullanılmıştır. Sonuç olarak, sodyum tripolifosfatın karışım suyunda kullanılması çimento pastalarının priz başlangıç ve priz bitiş sürelerini, çimento harçlarının yayılma çapı ile 7 ve 28 günlük basınç dayanımını arttırmıştır. Ayrıca sodyum tripolifosfat çözeltisi ile üretilen çimento pastasının SEM görüntüsü incelendiğinde, tripolifosfat’ın hidratasyon ürünleri olan CH ve CSH oluşumlarına olumsuz bir etkisinin bulunmadığı görülmüştür
