Developed countries in the world are introducing new reforms, especially in education, integrated with the 21st-century skills that many organizations have announced. In line with these goals, one of the targets set by the Ministry of National Education in our country with the 2023 Vision Document is design skill workshops. The aim of this study is to determine the criteria for establishing the Design and Skill Workshops targeted with the 2023 Vision Document in primary and secondary schools and to present a scientific study on how to create them in schools with application examples. The first stage of the study is the type of descriptive analysis. The criteria of the two workshops determined in the first stage were determined by expert opinions and the workshops were tried to be established in the school determined within the framework of these criteria. In order to achieve these aims of the research, quantitative and qualitative data were collected and analyzed. The qualitative data obtained in the research were used to explain the quantitative data and to ensure internal consistency. For this reason, "exploratory sequential design", one of the mixed research methods, was used in the research. For this reason, after the establishment of two sample workshops in Stage 2, the knowledge and skills of the students who received training from this workshop were analyzed with post-application self-evaluation forms, and the letters containing their feelings and thoughts about the workshops were analyzed with the Maxqda 2020 program. Thus, the results about the effectiveness of the workshop establishment criteria in gaining skills were revealed and evaluated. According to the findings obtained in the workshop studies; It has been seen that the students enjoy the workshops, improve their self-confidence, and contribute to the development of psychomotor, cognitive, affective and language skills. It has been seen that design and skill workshops have important contributions to students' acquisition of targeted 21st-century skills. It has been seen that the targeted gains in the modular programs developed in the workshops are gained by the students and reveal their existing skills of the students. The criteria of the workshop, which is planned to be opened according to the possibilities, should be determined by considering the interests, wishes and abilities of the students in schools, and workshops should be established in parallel with this criterion and carried out by teachers who are experts in their fields

Objectives: In this study, we aimed to evaluate the short-to -mid-term results of the resection and reconstruction of large cystic lesions of the humerus. Patients and methods: Eight male patients (median age: 22.9 +/- 10.4 years; range, 12 to 42 years) with large cystic lesions of the humerus operated between January 2017 and December 2019 were retrospectively analyzed. The age of the patients, their previous treatments and follow-up periods, the size and location of the cysts, postoperative functional scores, presence of a union, recurrence of the cyst, and graft resorption were examined. Results: The mean follow-up was 42.8 +/- 7.5 (range, 34 to 54) months. Preoperatively, the mean length of the cystic lesions was 15.1 +/- 2.6 (range, 10 to 18) cm. At the final follow-up, the patients had a normal range of shoulder flexion-extension, internal rotation-external, abduction-adduction, and elbow flexion-extension, pronation-supination. The patients had a mean DASH score of 1.13 +/- 1.1 (range, 0 to 3.3) and MSTS score of 28.75 +/- 1.8 (range, 26 to 30) postoperatively. Complications such as pseudoarthrosis, graft resorption, or cyst recurrence were not observed in any of the patients. Conclusion: Although the risk of recurrence is low in small cystic lesions of the humerus, it increases as the size of the lesion increases. This reconstruction technique using vascularized fibular grafts, which we applied, seems to be extremely successful in ensuring biological healing and preventing recurrence and complications in patients with large cystic lesions of the humerus

We studied the effects on the performance and intestinal health of broiler chickens who were given Macleaya cordata (M. cordata) extract alone and those given a newly developed plant extract mixture (PEM) as a natural feed additive in the diet. Total 240 Ross 308 male chicks were used in this study and divided into 4 groups of 60 chicks each. For the experimental groups, 100 ppm PEM was added to the diet of group I (PEM 100); 200 ppm PEM was added for group II (PEM 200), and 18 ppm M. cordata extract (MCE) was added for group III. Although there were no significant differences in the feed conversion ratio, carcass weight, and carcass yield, other performance variables, including body weight, body weight gain, and feed intake were significantly affected. An analysis of the data from this study showed that specified feed additives decreased the ileal inflammation score without changing the villus height in the duodenum of the chickens. In conclusion, dietary supplementation of MCE supplement alone and the effects of newly developed PEM improved the performance parameters. Moreover, it can be said that it has an intestinal inflammation-reducing effect. Thus, this supplementation may have the potential to improve intestinal health

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of Beta (?)-vinasse supplementation on the live weight (LW), live weight gain (LWG), feed intake (FI), feed conversion ratio (FCR), carcass yield, meat quality, and ilio-caecal bacteriological flora of quails. A total of 240 5-d-old Japanese (Coturnix coturnix Japonica) quails, including both males and females, were divided into 3 groups 80 quails and treated as follow: a control group (1) with 0 g ?-vinasse/ kg ration; (2) 15 g/kg ?-vinasse and (3) 30 g/kg ?-vinasse. The study lasted for 6 weeks. At the end of the experiment, supplementation with ?-vinasse did not have a significant effect on FI and FCR. Dietary supplementation with 30 g/ kg ?-vinasse significantly (P < 0.05) increased LW (21 d)and LWG (5 to 21 d). The dietary treatment of quails with different levels of ?-vinasse did not affect hot carcass weight, cold carcass weights, hot and cold carcass yields, and breast and thigh pH.The lightness (L*) and yellowness (b*) of breast values were significantly (P<0.05) increased by 30 g/kg supplementation. Different levels of ?-vinasse significantly increased Lactobacillus spp. in faeces. As a result, it was concluded that ?-vinasse (by-product obtained from molasses) can be used in quail diets as an alternative feed source that will meet the nutritional needs of the animal and have positive effects on the digestive system, especially on the intestinal health (an increase in Lactobacillus spp. counts). © 2023, Derya Yesilbag YeşilbağThe authors thank Integro for supplying the feed additive supplement

    Get PDF
Leadership is considered as an ancient and multidimensional concept. Due to its contribution to the development of academic staff, the creation of a common culture in line with the interests and needs of stakeholders and the vision of the institution, and the distribution of workload, performance evaluation and management of resource use, academic leadership is associated with the concepts of professional development, higher education culture, and higher education management. The 50-item draft scale prepared by reviewing the related literature was given to 57 faculty members in the piloting stage, 490 faculty members in the exploratory factor analysis (EFA) stage, and 200 faculty members in the confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) stage. The sample of the study was chosen by using the maximum variation sampling method. The three sub-dimensions (professional development, higher education culture and higher education administration) obtained as a result of the EFA applied to reveal the construct validity of the scale were also confirmed by the CFA. The reliability of the scale was found by calculating the Cronbach's alpha coefficient and each of its three sub-dimensions was found to be highly reliable. The results show that the Academic Leadership Scale is a valid and reliable measurement tool that can be used to reveal the academic leadership perceptions of faculty members

    Get PDF
Maritime transport is the basis of world trade and globalization. Although maritime transportation has the lowest negative impact on the environment, it has still effecting the environment through shipping emissions, oil spills, solid wastes, sewage and noise pollution from the ships. Therefore, maritime transport activities are becoming one of the most important topics on sustainability debate. This study aims to analyze the attitudes of Turkish shipowning companies towards green shipping applications including a thorough review of the literature and implementing a Delphi research. At the end of the third round of Delphi research, the respondents have reached a consensus on such domains as “company policy and procedures”, “shipping equipment”, “shipper cooperation”, “shipping design and compliance”, as well as the reasons for and the benefits of adapting and implementing green shipping practices. They, however, have not reached concensus on some statements related to “shipping documents”, “shipping materials” and difficulties of “implementing green shipping applications”

    Get PDF
Objective: Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) is the most common type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma among adults and is characterized by heterogeneous clinical, immunophenotypic, and genetic features. Different mechanisms deregulating cell cycle and apoptosis play a role in the pathogenesis of DLBCL. Growth arrest DNA damage-inducible 45 (GADD45γ) is an important gene family involved in these mechanisms. The aims of this study are to determine the frequency of GADD45γ methylation, to evaluate the correlation between GADD45γ methylation and protein expression, and to investigate the relation between methylation status and clinicopathologic parameters in DLBCL tissues and reactive lymphoid node tissues from patients with reactive lymphoid hyperplasia. Materials and Methods: Thirty-six tissue samples of DLBCL and 40 nonmalignant reactive lymphoid node tissues were analyzed in this study. Methylation-sensitive high-resolution melting analysis was used for the determination of GADD45γ methylation status. The GADD45γ protein expression was determined by immunohistochemistry. Results: GADD45γ methylation was frequent (50.0%) in DLBCL. It was also significantly higher in advanced-stage tumors compared with early-stage (p=0.041). In contrast, unmethylated GADD45γ was associated with nodal involvement as the primary anatomical site (p=0.040). Conclusion: The results of this study show that, in contrast to solid tumors, the frequency of GADD45γ methylation is higher and this epigenetic alteration of GADD45γ may be associated with progression in DLBCL. In addition, nodal involvement is more likely to be present in patients with unmethylated GADD45γ. © 2015 Turkish Society of Hematology. All rights reserved
