The teaching role of the Holy Spirit in British Pentecostal theological education

This thesis seeks to investigate how the views in Pentecostal theology on the role of the Holy Spirit as teacher, and the traditions in Pentecostal Theological Education, impact a classical Pentecostal Theological College in the UK. Having become incorporated into mainstream scholarship, Pentecostal Theological Education faces the challenge of promoting and maintaining the spirituality of its students. Pentecostal educators believe that the Spirit’s teaching is the key to realising the spirituality of students in Pentecostal higher education. However, this belief is stifled by the academic demands of higher education. With many suggestions on how Pentecostal spirituality can be promoted, it has not yet been explained how this spirituality is promoted in the teaching and learning environment in a classical Pentecostal Theological College in the UK. Having established that the story of the Spirit’s teaching role in a classical Pentecostal Theological College is yet to be told, Chapter Four of the thesis provides a critical Case Study on how the role of the Spirit as teacher and the traditions in Pentecostal education impact teaching and learning in a classical Pentecostal Theological College. Research data was collected through semi-structured interviews, lesson observations, and documents. The methodology and methods were based on a subjectivist paradigm and interpretivist perspective. The research data has shown that the concept of the Spirit’s role as a teacher exists. However, the data analysis shows that practice of the concept is yet to be implemented in the case study unit. This challenge calls for further research and creativity in educating Pentecostal theological students

Constraining the Size Growth of the Task Space with Socially Guided Intrinsic Motivation using Demonstrations

This paper presents an algorithm for learning a highly redundant inverse model in continuous and non-preset environments. Our Socially Guided Intrinsic Motivation by Demonstrations (SGIM-D) algorithm combines the advantages of both social learning and intrinsic motivation, to specialise in a wide range of skills, while lessening its dependence on the teacher. SGIM-D is evaluated on a fishing skill learning experiment.Comment: JCAI Workshop on Agents Learning Interactively from Human Teachers (ALIHT), Barcelona : Spain (2011

The hump in the Cerenkov lateral distribution of gamma ray showers

    Get PDF
The lateral distribution of atmospheric Cerenkov photons emitted by gamma ray showers of energy 100 GeV is calculated. The lateral distribution shows a characteristic hump at a distance of approx. 135 meter from the core. The hump is shown to be due to electrons of threshold energy 1 GeV, above which the mean scattering angle becomes smaller than the Cerenkov angle

The aims of the study were to find out (1) the application of the demonstration method in learning mathematics for grade II students in the Puubheto SDK, Ende District, Ende Regency, (2) the learning outcomes of second grade students in learning mathematics with flat shapes after the demonstration method was applied. This research is a classroom action research (CAR), a problem-solving strategy that utilizes real action and the process of developing the ability to detect and solve problems. While the approach used in this study is a qualitative approach. The location of this research was carried out at the Puubheto SDK, Ende District, Ende Regency. The subjects in this study were students of Class II SDK Puubheto, totaling 20 people. The data collection technique used in this research is to use observation, tests, and interviews. Based on the results of the research conducted, it was obtained data that from the results of the initial test students who achieved the Minimum Completeness Criteria score were 7 people out of 20 people with a percentage of 35%, the first cycle who got a complete score was 15 people out of 20 people with the percentage reached and the cycle I II all students reach the Minimum Completeness Criteria with a percentage of 100%. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that the use of the demonstration method can improve the learning outcomes of class II students at SDK Puubheto, Ende District, Ende Regency.

Background: Inhalation of foreign bodies (FBs) is a common problem in Sudanese children. Its incidence has not changed significantly but the safety of removal has improved dramatically. Most of the airway FBs was in patients younger than 15 years of age.Methodology: This is a retrospective study conducted in Ibn Sina and Al Doha ENT hospitals from Jan 2008 to Dec 2010 using rigid bronchoscopy in Sudanese children who had foreign bodies (FBs) in the bronchus.Result: A total of 150 bronchoscopies was performed : 89 cases (56%) were below 2 years of age;45 cases(30%) were between 2-5 years ;and 18 cases (14%) were over 5 years of age . In 88 cases (58.7%) the foreign bodies inhalations (F.Bs) were peanuts and in 27 cases (18%) werewatermelon seeds, and most of the FBs were found in children under 5 years of age. Pins and needles were found in 8cases (5.3%) mostly teenage females. Most of the FBs (82.7%) were radiolucent showing minimal or no X-ray findings. Most of the bronchoscopy (80%) was done asan elective. All FBs could be found by bronchoscopy and 90% of FBs were located in the right main bronchus. Ninety percent of the FBs were successfully removed. In 5% of patients they were removed partially. In only 5% of the patients, the procedure failed. The majority of FBs whichwere not removed were pins and needles. Urgent tracheostomy was done for three cases (2%) to remove a large FB through the stoma. Several complications were reported either due to the inhaled FBs or due to bronchoscopic procedure. In one patient (0.7%) perforation of bronchus occurred and chest tube with under water seal was inserted. Only one cases (0.7%) had operative mortality. In two cases (1.3%) the mortality was due to inhaled FBs. Overall mortality was 2%.Conclusion: Certain food items especially peanuts if given to children have to be given with caution and under close supervision. In a child who develops sudden wheezes where asthma has not been previously diagnosed and no persistent chest infection was suspected, bronchoscopy should always be considered. Bronchoscopy should be performed as an elective procedure for its favorable outcome. Intraoperative tracheostomy sometimes is mandatory to remove hard and sizable FB

The study investigated the effects of home-video on the reading habit of ahundred (100) randomly selected literate house-wives in one of the 752 local government areas of Nigeria. The descriptive survey method was used to field the views of the respondents on the use of home made video with reference to their reading habit. Through the four-point Scale it was found that, indeed, the emergence of home video in Nigeria and particularly its sporadic expansion in the recent time has a great effect on the reading habit of Nigerian house wives

Economic theory of culture : a dynamic approach

    Get PDF
Cultural capital is assumed to benefit all members of society. It is accumulated through the consumption of cultural services and is diminished through depreciation. Using the stock of cultural goods (e.g. cultural heritage, works of arts, literature and music), cultural services are provided by the cultural services industry; the stock of cultural goods is enlarged by the flow of new cultural goods created by individuals who are both consumers and creators of culture and whose utility is positively affected by the cultural goods they created. In the no-policy market economy, individuals tend to ignore the positive external effects of their cultural services consumption and creation of cultural goods on other individuals via augmenting cultural capital and cultural-goods stock. Consequently, less cultural capital and culturalgoods stock will be accumulated. The efficient allocation can be restored by introducing an appropriate subsidy that stimulates the consumers’ demand for cultural services, and the creation of new cultural goods, promotes the accumulation of cultural capital and cultural goods
