    This study is about Shahid’s Effort to Integrate into Group of Fundamentalist Moslem in The Black Album novel by Hanif Kureishi by using individual pscychological approach. It is done by establishing two objectives: the first analyzes the novel based on the structural elements of the novel and the second discribes Shahid’s Effort to Integrate into Group of Fundamentalist Moslem based on individual pscychological Approach. This study uses qualitative research, in this method the researcher uses two data source, namely primary and secondary. Primary data source is the data of the novel, secondary data source is references and materials related to the study picking up from the books or internet, and other data which deal with the research. Both data are collected by conducting library research and analyzed by descriptive analysis. The results of this study are as follows: based on the structural analysis of each element, it shows that the character and characterization, setting, plot, point of view, theme is supporting each other to produce a good quality novel. Then, based on the individual psychology analysis, the study shows that the problem faced by the major character is her own psychology condition to decide the appropriate ways for her life. This novel also shows the process how the resilience to stay alive will produce the amazing result

    Retno Widiastutik. A320110116. ERROR ANALYSIS ON DESCRIPTIVE TEXTS MADE BY THE EIGHTH GRADE STUDENTS AT SMP N 2 COLOMADU IN 2014/2015 ACADEMIC YEAR. The Research Paper. Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. 2015 The aims of this research are: (1) to describe errors made by eighth grade students of SMP N 2 Colomadu in their writing descriptive texts, (2) identifying the types of lexical errors, grammatical errors, and discourse errors and also explain the frequency of each type of errors, and (3) describing the dominant type of errors, and identifying the sources of errors. The type of this research is descriptive qualitative research because there is no calculating data in this research. The qualitative research are describing data and not using any statistic procedure. The technique for collecting the data is analyzing. Analyzing is the method of collecting data by documents, books, letters, agenda, worksheet, and other which is written. Then, the steps for collecting the data they are: (1) taking two classes to collect descriptive texts made by students there is VIIIA, (2) asking the students to make descriptive texts in a topic given by the researcher, (3) reading the students’ texts one by one, marking erroneous sentences based on the data, (4) writing the erroneous sentences on the notebook, (5) grouping the data into general classifications of errors, (6) identifying erroneous sentence found in the data, and (7) listing erroneous sentences into classification of errors. The researcher uses James’ theory for classification, Dulay, et al.’s theory, and Brown’s theory for sources of errors. The result of this study shows that the researcher found in the lexical level they are: wrong spelling 11, 70%, and code switching 3, 54%. Then in the grammatical level, found 16 types of errors which divided into some parts, they are the use of verb tense divided into three, they are: the use of V1 without (-s) for 3rd person singular 13, 12%, the wrong form of V1 for 3rd person singular 10, 28%, and the use of V1 for gerund 2, 48%. Then for BE divided into four, they are: addition of BE in the present tense 8, 86%, omission of BE as predicate 6, 73%, and the wrong selection of BE 1, 41%, and the use of BE 1, 06%. The next for article is addition of article 7, 80%. The error in pronoun divided into seven, they are: subjective for possessive pronoun 7, 09%, the wrong selection of pronoun 3, 90%, omission of possessive 1, 06%, possessive for subjective pronoun 0, 70%, addition of possessive 0, 70%, subjective for objective pronoun 0, 35%, and the wrong form of relative clause 0, 35%. Then the last error in grammatical level is misordering 5, 67%.The discourse level found 4 types of errors they are: generic structure 9, 21%, reference 1, 77%, conjunction 1, 77%, and language feature 0, 35%. The highest percentage of error is the use of V1 without (-s) for 3rd person singular is 37 errors (13, 12%). Key words: error analysis, descriptive text, sources of errors

    The purpose of the study is to showthe representation of Saddam Hussein and George W. Bush in TIME magazine 2003. The first is analyzing the news based on structural element of discourse. The second is analyzing the news based on the representation analysis. This study isqualitative research. There are two types of data; primary and secondary. The primary data sources are three news in TIME magazine 2003; Can This War Be Avoided?, Saddam Addresses Iraqi People and “We Got Him”. The secondary data are another material from some books or internet which related to the study.Both data are collected by library research and analyzed by descriptive analysis. The finding of the research shows as follows: firstly, based in the structural analysis,macrostructure, superstructure and microstructure are arranged well by the reporters. It makes relationship one another.Secondly, based on the prepresentation analysis, Saddam was represented as the criminal and Bush was represented as the hero.     The research is aimed to know the social disparity in Jane Austen „s Mansfield Park novel by using Sociological Perspective. Therefore, the study analyzes the novel in terms of it‟s structural elements and based on the sociological perspective. This research belongs to descriptive qualitative study. In this method, the writer uses two data sources; they are primary data and secondary data source. The primary data source and the object of this study is the novel Mansfield Park, meanwhile the secondary data sources are any books of literature and sociology and websites related to this study. The writer collects the data from both primary and secondary data sources in a short of document evidence. The study comes to the following conclusion. First, based on structural analysis, it is apparent that in Mansfield Park novel, Jane Austen conveys message that different lifestyle because of social classes. Second, it is clear that there is a close relation between this novel and the social reality of England in the early nineteenth century. Mansfield Park shows that the lives of the upper class were filled with luxurious, stands in sharp contrast with the lives of the lower class are shabby and uneducated

    The research is proposed to analyze how August‟s abusive act reflected in Water for Elephants novel by Psychoanalytic Criticism. There are two objectives: the first is to analyze the novel based on its structural elements and technical elements, and the second is to analyze the main character's personality using a psychoanalytic approach. This study is a qualitative study, using Sara Gruen‟s Water for Elephant novel 2006 as of structural elements, and the secondary data. The primary data source is Water for Elephants novel which is written by Sara Gruen , and the secondary data are some articles, book of literary and internet related to the subject. The method of collecting data in this research is library research by reading some related books and articles, accessing internet, taking notes of important parts, arranging, and drawing conclusion the data. In analyzing the data, the writer employs descriptive analysis. The results showed that this novel illustrates how abusive towards fellow human beings will make us lose the people we love. One thing that can destroy human‟s dreams is abusive. Thus, in order to keep away from abusive acts is caring and loving people around

    A Translation Shift Analysis Of Verbs And Verb Phrases In Life Of Pi Into Krhidupan Pi Subtitling

    The goals of this research paper are to classify the translation shifts of verbs and verb phrases and to explain the equivalence of verbs and verb phrases in Life of Pi into Kehidupan Pi subtitling. This research is descriptive qualitative research. The objects are the verbs and verb phrases found in Life of Pi into Kehidupan Pi Subtitling. The data are the verbs and verb phrases that undergo translation shift in Life of Pi into Kehidupan Pi subtitling. The documentation method is used to collect the data from both of the subtitling. The result of the study shows that first, there are 453 data of verbs and verb phrase that are not included in translation shift (66.81%), and finds 225 data of verbs and verb phrases that are included in translation shift (33.19%). From the 225 data translation shift of verbs and verb phrases, they are: 1) 8 data or 1.2% of verb into noun, 2) 2 data or 0.3% of verb into adverb, 3) 5 data or 0.7% of active verb into passive verb and vice versa, 4) 16 data or 2.4% of untranslated verb, 5) 1 datum or 0.1% of linking verb into adverb, 6) 22 data or 3.2% of verb into noun phrase, 7) 23 data or 3.4% of verb into verb phrase, 8) 31 data or 4.6% of verb phrase into noun phrase, 9) 4 data or 0.6% of active verb phrase into passive verb phrase and vice versa, 10) 91 data or 13.4% of verb phrase into verb, 11) 1 datum or 0.1% verb phrase into noun, 12) 2 data or 0.3% of verb phrase into adjective, 13) 2 data or 0.3% of verb phrase into adverb, and 14) 17 data or 2.5% of verb phrase (grammatical) into lexical. Second, there are 224 data or 99.56% from 225 data that belongs to equivalent translation, and there is only one datum or 0.44% that belongs to non-equivalent translation. So, the writer concludes that the equivalence of verbs and verb phrases in Life of Pi into Kehidupan Pi subtitling is equivalent translation

    This research is to describe the teaching listening conducted by the eighth grade teacher of SMP Negeri 2 Jatiyoso in 2013/2014 academic year. It is conducted to know the method applied by the English teacher in teaching listening specifically the research is to ask the following question: 1) what is the objective of teaching listening? 2) What is the teaching material? 3) What is the teaching learning procedure? 4) What is the technique of teaching listening? The research is a descriptive research. The writer collects the data by observing teaching-learning process, conducting the interview, and documenting some important data that support this research. The data are interview script, field note, syllabus, text book, and lesson plan. The methods of collecting data are observation, interview, and analysing document. The techniques of analyzing data are reduction the data, data analysis, display the data, and conclusion and verification. The results of the research show that the method of teaching listening used by teacher is Inquiry Based Learning, The goal of teaching listening is to help the students in understanding the listening material, Listening material given to the student are descriptive text and recount text, Teaching learning process is implementated by using five steps, namely Observing, Questioning, Associating, Experimenting, Network. Teaching media used by the teacher is from the textbooks Smart Steps for Junior High School and materials from the Internet.     Improving Students’ Listening Skill Using Films At The Eleventh Grade Of Sma Negeri 1 Bringin ; Classroom Action Research

    The general objective of this research is to improve studens’ listening skill. While, the specific objectives of this research are, to describe the implementation of listening skill using films, and to identify the improvements of the students’ listening ability at SMA 1 Bringin. In achieving the objectives of the research, the researcher uses classroom action research (CAR). Each cycle of the action consists of four steps: planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The research was held on SMA 1 Bringin Semarang. The subject of this study is (11th class of IPA) students of SMA 1 Bringin that consists of 29 students. The researcher analyzes the data by using interactive analysis and descriptive comparison, the data are observation, documentation, and tests in analyzing the data. There are two cycles in this action research in which each cycle is conducted in two meetings. After analyzing the data, the writer describes the result of the research in which in pre - test of 29 students only 11 students scored 65 and 18 students scored below 65 with the average gra de 42.36. This means mastery 58.82% of students completed the success criteria. Cycle 1 the students who completed is 64.7% and 35.3% did not complete a repair after the implementation of the learning cycle I. Formative test results the second cycle, the level of completeness reaches 100%. The students also show positive responses. They look enthusiastic, energetic, braver, and more confident to listen. Thus, it can be said that the teaching listening to the Eleventh Grade students of SMA 1 Bringin is successfull

    This research is descriptive qualitative research. The objectives of the research are to classify translation analysis shift of verbs and verb phrases and the equivalence of translation found in The Adventure of Tintin 2011 movie. The data in this research is English and Indonesian movie subtitle. The data source is in The Adventure of Tintin 2011 movie subtitle containing verbs and verb phrase. The writer uses documentation as the method of collecting the data in this research. The result of the research shows that: First, the writer finds two kinds of translation shift; they are the translation shift of verb and the translation shift of verb phrase. The translation shift can be classified into two types, category shift and level shift. The first part is translation shift of verb. In category shift, there are verb is translated into noun, verb into adverb, linking verb into adverb, and verb into verb+nya. In level shift, there are verb is translated into verb phrase and verb into yang + verb. Next, the second part is the translation shift of verb phrase. In the level shift the writer finds translation shift of verb phrase into verb, verb phrase into adjective, verb phrase into adverb, verb phrase into preposition, and verb phrase into verb imperative. Second, the equivalence of translation is classified into two types, equivalence and non equivalence. There are 275 data from 284 data or 97% of equivalence translation. Besides, the writer finds 9 data or 3% of 284 data of non equivalence translation

    A Syntactic Analysis Of Noun Phrases Found In George Bernard Shaw’s ‘Arms And The Man’ (Using X-Bar Approach)

    This study deals with analyzing drama script using X-bar approach in representative of tree-diagram of Andrew Radford’s book (1988). This study aims at identifying and describing the constituent of Noun Phrase and the dominant construction of Noun Phrase found in George Bernard Shaw’s ‘Arms and the Man’. This research applies descriptive qualitative method. The objects are Noun Phrases constituent, and the analyzed data are sentences and/or phrases containing Noun Phrase construction used in ‘Arms and the Man’ drama script. The whole data are 178 data found by the writer. Based on the analysis, the writer found that there are thirty-five constructions of Noun Phrase and the dominant constructions lies within pre-modifier + Noun (Head) construction. For specific result, the writer provides the percentage in detail, such as Noun, in 3 data (1, 7%), Premodifier + Noun (Head), in 94 data (52, 8%), Noun (Head) + Post-modifier, in 5 data (2, 8%), Pre-modifier + Noun (Head) + Post-modifier, in 76 data (42, 7%). From research finding, the writer concludes that there are thirty-five constituents and constructions of Noun Phrase in English language. Sometimes Noun Phrase has Prepositional Phrase as the post-modifier. Every PP has status in Noun Phrase either as complement (obligatory) or adjunct (optional). It can be observed by paraphrasing the head noun into transitive verb (Vt)
