A Light-Curve Model of the Symbiotic Nova PU Vul (1979) -- A Very Quiet Explosion with Long-Lasted Flat Peak

We present a light curve model of the symbiotic nova PU Vul (Nova Vulpeculae 1979) that shows a long-lasted flat peak with no spectral indication of wind mass-loss before decline. Our quasi-evolution models consisting of a series of static solutions explain both the optical flat peak and ultraviolet (UV) light curve simultaneously. The white dwarf mass is estimated to be ~0.6 Mo. We also provide a new determination of the reddening, E(B-V) = 0.43 +/- 0.05, from UV spectral analysis. Theoretical light curve fitting of UV 1455 A provides the distance of d=3.8 +/- 0.7 kpc.Comment: 10 pages, 7 figures, published in ApJ, 2011, 727, 7

Property-Based Methods for Collaborative Model Development

Industrial applications of mo del-driven engineering to de- velop large and complex systems resulted in an increasing demand for collab oration features. However, use cases such as mo del dierencing and merging have turned out to b e a dicult challenge, due to (i) the graph- like nature of mo dels, and (ii) the complexity of certain op erations (e.g. hierarchy refactoring) that are common to day. In the pap er, we present a novel search-based automated mo del merge approach where rule-based design space exploration is used to search the space of solution candi- dates that represent conict-free merged mo dels. Our metho d also allows engineers to easily incorp orate domain-sp ecic knowledge into the merge pro cess to provide b etter solutions. The merge pro cess automatically cal- culates multiple merge candidates to b e presented to domain exp erts for nal selection. Furthermore, we prop ose to adopt a generic synthetic b enchmark to carry out an initial scalability assessment for mo del merge with large mo dels and large change sets

Comparative calculation of EPR spectral parameters in [Mo^VOX_4]^-, [Mo^VOX_5]^(2-), and [Mo^VOX_4(H_2O)]^- complexes

The EPR spectral parameters, i.e. g-tensors and molybdenum hyperfine couplings, for several d^1 systems of the general formula [Mo^VEX_4]^(n-), [Mo^VOX_5]^(2-), and [Mo^VOX_4(H_2O)]^- (E = O, N; X = F, Cl, Br; n = 1 or 2) were calculated using Density Functional Theory. The influence of basis sets, their contraction scheme, the type of exchange-correlation functional, the amount of Hartree-Fock exchange, molecular geometry, and relativistic effects on the calculated EPR spectra parameters have been discussed. The g-tensors and molybdenum hyperfine coupling parameters were calculated using a relativistic Hamiltonian coupled with several LDA, GGA, and 'hybrid' exchange-correlation functionals and uncontracted full-electron DGauss DZVP basis sets. The calculated EPR parameters are found to be sensitive to the Mo=E distance and E=Mo-Cl angle, and thus the choice of starting molecular geometry should be considered as an important factor in predicting the g-tensors and hyperfine coupling constants in oxo-molybdenum compounds. In the present case, the GGA exchange-correlation functionals provide a better agreement between the theory and the experiment

Generalized Supersymmetries and Composite Structure in M-Theory

We describe generalized D=11 Poincar\'{e} and conformal supersymmetries. The corresponding generalization of twistor and supertwistor framework is outlined with OSp(164)OSp(1|64) superspinors describing BPS preons. The k32\frac{k}{32} BPS states as composed out of n=32kn=32 - k preons are introduced, and basic ideas concerning BPS preon dynamics is presented. The lecture is based on results obtained by J.A. de Azcarraga, I. Bandos, J.M. Izquierdo and the author1^1.Comment: LaTeX, 7pages. Talk presented at the XVI-th Max Born Symposium ,,Supersymmetries and Quantum Symmetries `01" (21-25.09.2001, Karpacz, Poland) and International Nankai Symposium (8-11.10.2001, Tianjin, China). To be published in the Proceedings of Nankai Symposium, Ed. Ge Mo-Lin and J. Park, Int. J. Mod. Phys.
