    Elevating the Influence of Arts and Culture: A Cleveland Playbook

    This is the story of how the Cuyahoga County arts and culture sector went from fiscal emergency to securing one of the highest levels of public funding for arts and culture in the country to becoming recognized as a national leader in creative placemaking. This playbook examines the role and lessons of CPAC as inspirator, catalyst, advocate, adviser, think tank, policy strategist, data source, convener. As a result of CPAC's work: Tax money has been directed for arts and culture Facilities have been built or renovated Governments have become involvedCreative businesses have merged or collaborated Innovative cross sector partnerships have emergedThrough CPAC's process outlined in the playbook, organizations and communities anywhere can see what worked in Northeast Ohio and what did not.  Any one of the strategies in this playbook could be beneficial, depending on a community's vision and current situation.  It is our hope that our story can provide other organizations with insight into how they might strengthen their own arts and culture sectors and thus their whole communities

    For many libraries, social media is usually another platform to share information about library resources and events. For some, the term has become overused so much that the social aspect has fallen by the wayside. Facebook page updates or tweets are only part of what you can bring to and achieve from social media. In this article we discuss how students communicate with our academic library on Twitter, and how we used conversations to improve library spaces, technology, and services. We will explain the process of tracking and responding to student tweets, as well as the pros and cons of such an endeavor. Lastly, we will share our use of Application Programming Interface (API) generators and provide examples from institutions using this technology to communicate with students

    Quadratic programming as an extension of linear programming

    In the past two decades Mathematical Programming has come to occupy a place of importance in Economic Studies and in Operations Research. Roughly speaking, Mathematical Programming is the analysis of problems of the type: "Find the maximum of a function, when the variables are subject to inequality and equality constraints". The term "Linear Programming" corresponds to the case where, the function to be maximized (the so called objective function) and the equality and inequality constraints are linear. The term "Non-Linear Programming" should then become self-defined. With the introduction of Dantzig's Simplex Method, Linear Programming has become an everyday technique. The same, we regret to say, is not true for Nonlinear Programming because this subject is broader and much more difficult to unify than that of Linear Programming. In fact at present there does exist any unifying theory for Nonlinear Programming. However, we feel that research on this field is gathering tremendous momentum and that in the not too distant future Nonlinear Programming will become both a practical and fundamental tool in many spheres of Science. One of the subject matters of Nonlinear Programming is what we came to call "Quadratic Programming". This name is restricted to the specific problem of maximizing or minimizing a quadratic objective function f(X) = CX + X'DX, where CX is a linear form and X'DX a quadratic form, subject to linear constraints. Historically, Quadratic Programming was the first venture into the theory of Nonlinear Programming. More specifically it is the purpose of this thesis to: (i) Present a unified and simple treatment of the Theory of Concave (Convex) Quadratic Programming (in no way will mathematical rigour be sacrificed for simplicity). (ii) Present a collection of "Simplicial Methods" for solving quadratic programming problems, which are but extensions of the Simplex Method ( for Linear Programming, whose "accuracy" and "convergence" make them completely self-sufficient for the solution of any type of concave (convex) quadratic programming problems

    Dinner is an interactive exhibition which presents appropriated works of art collected and hung in a clustered salon style, as well as a fully realized recreation based on a 16th century Dutch banquet still-life, which presents guests with meats, cheeses, fruits, vegetables, breads, and wine to share and imbibe. Dining ware is provided for guests at the entrance to the exhibit, as are suggested topics of conversation, which are presented on slips of paper for guests to carry with them throughout their time in the space. Within the collection of wall-mounted works are references to ancient Greek and Roman marble statues, portraits of European elites spanning the 17th and 18th century, and more modern children’s cartoons from the 1980s and 90s. The disparate references align into a singular motif by using repetition of color, pose, framing and material within the artworks. This installation explores themes of beauty, class, privilege, history, excess, and humor while providing a space for cultivating deeper conversations on said subjects through the act of sharing, looking, and eating
