    Get PDF
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) tools are designed to analyze and optimize resources regarding positioning factors. Web positioning techniques are applied in order to improve the relevancy of web resources. Webmasters usually use SEO tools to analyze a web site according to some positioning factor. They are required to be updated to achieve two basic goals: to increase the user’s satisfaction while searching the web and to decrease web spamming. We have studied the trends that affect positioning algorithms and optimization techniques. Several SEO tools were analysed in order to learn which functionalities have been implemented. Furthermore, an experiment was performed to test how the positioning factors help optimize the results and if these factors are present in the functionalities found in the SEO tools. Finally, a literature review was carried out to detect future trends in search engines’ algorithms. Results show that SEO tools help in the optimization process but to an insufficient degree; therefore the algorithm’s evolution study suggests that there is a need for major updates in the short ter

A set of recommendations are presented that are intended to be useful for the externalization of a SEO service. The recommendations are articulated around four phases: (1) initial information acquisition, (2) information contrast, (3) hiring, (4) monitoring. The main characteristics of black hat SEO practices, or bad practices in SEO, are presented

Competences of SEO specialists: a perspective from the labor market. Technical note

The search engine optimization (SEO) specialist, or web positioning specialist, is one of the digital communication professionals that have emerged from the use of search engines as a means of attracting online audiences. The results of an analysis of labor demand demonstrate the importance of specific competences not intrinsically linked to this specialty, such as web analytics and digital marketing, and transversal competences, such as analytical skills, English-language skills, and an interest in learning. Its implications for the academic and business world open up future areas of study to confirm the professional sector’s requirements and illustrate the effectiveness of higher education, focusing on improving employability

Digital repositories of open access publications in Europe: analysis and assessment of accessibility, web positioning and source code quality

This work presents the results of a study of web sites of 230 OA digital repositories in 16 European countries. The analysis addresses the extent to which these repositories fulfil display characteristics of quality sites, over and above the quality of their content. The objective of this study is to verify whether web sites specifically committed to free access to information satisfy the quality criteria of accessibility, web positioning and quality of the source code. The results obtained find that accessibility must be improved upon, source code quality is merely acceptable, and web positioning is good. In short, bad practices were observed that should not occur in sites whose objective is to facilitate the free access to information

The study analyzes the factors that contribute to the technical efficiency of the visibility of the universities included in the Top100 of the Latin American Universities Ranking Web published by Webometrics database in January, 2017. Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) was used to calculate the contributions of input variables to efficiency. As data sources for inputs, the study considers the academic data published on the web of each university, the content and profiles displayed from Google Scholar (GS), data by university published in ResearchGate as a scientific network, and finally, data from social networks as Twitter and Facebook accounts of the respective institutions. The postgraduate offer, visibility in GS, and the use of scientific and social networks contribute favorably to the web positioning of Latin American universities

A Web-based modeling tool for the SEMAT Essence theory of Software Engineering

As opposed to more mature subjects, software engineering lacks general theories to establish its foundations as a discipline. The Essence Theory of software engineering (Essence) has been proposed by the Software Engineering Methods and Theory (SEMAT) initiative. Essence goal is to develop a theoretically sound basis for software engineering practice and its wide adoption. Essence is yet far from reaching academic and industry adoption. Reasons include a struggle to foresee its utilization potential and the lack of tools implementing it. SEMAT Accelerator (SematAcc) is a Web-positioning tool for a software engineering endeavor, which implements the SEMAT's Essence kernel. SematAcc allows using Essence, thus helping to understand it. The tool enables teaching, adopting, and researching Essence in controlled experiments and case studies.Comment: 12 pages, 5 figures. A program having the overall objective of growing wide, thin silicon dendritic web crystals quasi-continuously from a semi-automated facility is discussed. The design considerations and fabrication of the facility as well as the test and operation phase are covered; detailed engineering drawings are included as an appendix. During the test and operation phase of the program, more than eighty growth runs and numerous thermal test runs were performed. At the conclusion of the program, 2.4 cm wide web was being grown at thicknesses of 100 to 300 micrometers. As expected, the thickness and growth rate are closely related. Solar cells made from this material were tested at NASA-Lewis and found to have conversion efficiencies comparable to devices fabricated from Czochralski material
