An Archaeological Inventory of Camp Swift, Bastrop County, Texas

Beginning in November 1996 and continuing until July of 1997, the Adjutant General’s Department of Texas conducted a self-sponsored Phase I cultural resources survey of Camp Swift in Bastrop County, Texas. The project surveyed approximately 5,000 acres of the camp, approximately 1,000 of which had been previously surveyed. A total of 58 new archaeological sites were recorded, of which 26 were prehistoric, 24 were historic, and 8 had both prehistoric and historic components. In addition to these sites, 42 previously identified sites were revisited. In September 2000, the Center for Archaeological Research of the University of Texas at San Antonio completed shovel tests on two sites and acquired GPS data on 28 sites. At this time, a geomorphologist excavated a series of 12 backhoe trenches and—subsequently—a report on the geoarchaeology of Camp Swift was added to this report. An assessment of the 169 sites now known on Camp Swift found one site (41BP138, the Wine Cellar Site) eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places. A total of 106 sites are considered not eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places. Fifty-nine sites are considered potentially eligible, and should be tested to determine their eligibility. Three marked cemeteries are protected by state law

Análisis y actualización de sistema de experimentación de accionamientos multifásicos

Los accionamientos multifásicos son una tecnología que está empezando a tener aplicaciones comerciales. Por este motivo ha habido una ola de interés en la investigación de esquemas de control para este tipo de máquinas. En el Departamento de Ingeniería Electrónica de la Universidad de Sevilla hay un motor de cinco fases que llevaba un tiempo en desuso. Este motor tenía un sistema de control basado en un ordenador que está a punto de estropearse. Se ha creado un abiente con todo lo necesario para controlar el sistema a un ordenador más reciente. Además, se han calibrado los sensores de corriente del sistema, ya que llevaban un tiempo sin utilizarse y sus valores de calibración habían derivado. Los nuevos valores propuestos se han validado con experimentos que no se han empleado para la calibración de los sensores. Finalmente, se han propuesto varias mejoras posibles.Multiphase induction machines are starting to be used in commercial applications. This has driven a wave of interest in the investigation of control schemes for these machines. The Seville University Electronic Engineering Department has a five phase motor that has been unmaintained for some time. A computer that was about to break down controlled this motor. The software has been ported to a newer machine. Because the motor had gone unused for so long, the sensors calibration values have changed. To correct the derivation, a new calibration has been made. The new values have been validated with experiments that have not been used in the calibration process. Montpelier: The history of a house, 1723-1998

This architectural history of Montpelier focuses on lives of the people who have lived and worked there between 1723 and 1998. It is not limited to the Madisons and the duPonts. Montpelier\u27s history provides further insight into a range of moments in America\u27s cultural history: plantation slavery in piedmont Virginia, the crisis of authority in the early American republic and the age of Jackson, ante-bellum sectionalism, Reconstruction, lifestyles of industrial magnates in the Gilded Age, and the development of historic preservation in twentieth-century America.;This study traces Montpelier\u27s evolution as a cultural landscape composed of layered historical activity---lives, values, and choices laid in courses and struck by time. The study seeks to reconstruct the form and style of the house and grounds through the archival record. More than a catalog of the events the house and grounds witnessed, the dissertation provides an analysis of various people coming to terms with the political, economic, and social changes of their times and their own personal dilemmas through the built environment. Changes to the house and grounds provide artifactual evidence that speaks to the utilitarian demands, changing ideologies, and symbolic expressions of Montpelier\u27s past inhabitants and present curators
