QoS Based Capacity Enhancement for WCDMA Network with Coding Scheme
The wide-band code division multiple access (WCDMA) based 3G and beyond
cellular mobile wireless networks are expected to provide a diverse range of
multimedia services to mobile users with guaranteed quality of service (QoS).
To serve diverse quality of service requirements of these networks it
necessitates new radio resource management strategies for effective utilization
of network resources with coding schemes. Call admission control (CAC) is a
significant component in wireless networks to guarantee quality of service
requirements and also to enhance the network resilience. In this paper capacity
enhancement for WCDMA network with convolutional coding scheme is discussed and
compared with block code and without coding scheme to achieve a better balance
between resource utilization and quality of service provisioning. The model of
this network is valid for the real-time (RT) and non-real-time (NRT) services
having different data rate. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of
the network using convolutional code in terms of capacity enhancement and QoS

Business Innovation Strategies to Reduce the Revenue Gap for Wireless Broadband Services
Mobile broadband is increasing rapidly both when it comes to traffic and number of subscriptions. The swift growth of the demand will require substantial capacity expansions. Operators are challenged by the fact that revenues from mobile broadband are limited, just a few per cent of APRU, and thus not compensating for declining voice revenues, creating a so called "revenue gap". Concurrently, mobile broadband dominates the traffic, set to grow strongly. In this paper we analyze the potential of different strategies for operators to reduce or bridge the revenue gap. The main options are to reduce network costs, to increase access prices and to exploit new revenue streams. The focus in the paper is on cost & capacity challenges and solutions in the network domain. Operators can cooperate and share sites and spectrum, which could be combined with off-loading heavy traffic to less costly local networks. In the network analysis we illustrate the cost impacts of different levels of demand, re-use of existing base station sites, sharing of base stations and spectrum and deployment of a denser network. A sensitivity analysis illustrates the impact on total revenues if access prices are increased, whether new types of services generate additional revenues, and if it fills the revenue gap. Our conclusion is that the different technical options to reduce the revenue gap can be linked to business strategies that include cooperation with both other operators as well as with non-telecom actors. Flexible CMOS low-noise amplifiers for beyond-3G wireless hand-held devices
This paper explores the use of reconfigurable Low-Noise Amplifiers (LNAs) for the implementation of CMOS Radio Frequency
(RF) front-ends in the next generation of multi-standard wireless transceivers. Main circuit strategies reported so
far for multi-standard LNAs are reviewed and a novel flexible LNA intended for Beyond-3G RF hand-held terminals is
presented. The proposed LNA circuit consists of a two-stage topology that combines inductive-source degeneration with
PMOS-varactor based tuning network and a programmable load to adapt its performance to different standard specifications
without penalizing the circuit noise and with a reduced number of inductors as compared to previous reported reconfigurable
LNAs. The circuit has been designed in a 90-nm CMOS technology to cope with the requirements of the GSM,
WCDMA, Bluetooth and WLAN (IEEE 802.11b-g) standards. Simulation results, including technology and packaging
parasitics, demonstrate correct operation of the circuit for all the standards under study, featuring NF13.3dB
and IIP3>10.9dBm, over a 1.85GHz-2.4GHz band, with an adaptive power consumption between 17mW and 22mW from
a 1-V supply voltage. Preliminary experimental measurements are included, showing a correct reconfiguration operation
within the operation band
Interworking Architectures in Heterogeneous Wireless Networks: An Algorithmic Overview
The scarce availability of spectrum and the proliferation of
smartphones, social networking applications, online gaming
etc., mobile network operators (MNOs) are faced with an
exponential growth in packet switched data requirements on
their networks. Haven invested in legacy systems (such as
HSPA, WCDMA, WiMAX, Cdma2000, LTE, etc.) that have
hitherto withstood the current and imminent data usage
demand, future and projected usage surpass the capabilities of the evolution of these individual technologies. Hence, a more critical, cost-effective and flexible approach to provide ubiquitous coverage for the user using available spectrum is of high demand. Heterogeneous Networks make use of these legacy systems by allowing users to connect to the best network available and most importantly seamlessly handover active sessions amidst them. Energy efficiency in heterogeneous wireless access networks
In this article, we bring forward the important aspect of energy savings in wireless access networks. We specifically focus on the energy saving opportunities in the recently evolving heterogeneous networks (HetNets), both Single- RAT and Multi-RAT. Issues such as sleep/wakeup cycles and interference management are discussed for co-channel Single-RAT HetNets. In addition to that, a simulation based study for LTE macro-femto HetNets is presented, indicating the need for dynamic energy efficient resource management schemes. Multi-RAT HetNets also come with challenges such as network integration, combined resource management and network selection. Along with a discussion on these challenges, we also investigate the performance of the conventional WLAN-first network selection mechanism in terms of energy efficiency (EE) and suggest that EE can be improved by the application of intelligent call admission control policies
Efficient Handoff for QoS Enhancement in Heterogeneous Wireless Networks (UMTS/WLAN Interworking)
Today’s Wireless Communications technologies prove us that wireless communications will in the long run be composed of different communication networks as a way to benefit from each other. This can however be achieved from cellular networks and wireless local area networks that show some compatible characteristics that enable them be integrated. Scenarios typically behind these integrations is the UMTS and WLAN interworking where UMTS network is known for its wide area of coverage and nearly roaming however, known for lack of enough data rate. This is contrary with WLAN which is known for high data rate and cheaper compared to UMTS. WLAN however has a small area of coverage and lacks roaming. This in regard brings the idea that the two different networks being integrated could provide the means for mobile users to be gratified with a supported coverage and quality at anywhere and anytime with seamless access to internet

bined in a novel topology that allows to increase the effec-
