James Joyce e o romance de formação: Um retrato do artista quando jovem

This article presents an interpretation of James Joyce’s A portrait of the artist as a young man based on the idea of Bildungs- and Künstlerroman. A short discussion about the concept of “apprenticeship novel” is exposed, trying to point out elements from Joyce’s novel that demonstrates its affinities with this literary gender pioneered by Goethe. It shows the young artist breakup with family, country and religion, his conversion to art and the principles that will guide him.Trata-se de uma interpretação de Um retrato do artista quando jovem, de James Joyce a partir da ideia de Bildungs- e Künstlerroman. A relação da sensorialidade com a transmissão psíquica: uma abordagem na psicose

Afreudite : Revista Lusófona de Psicanálise Pura e AplicadaEsse trabalho propõe apresentar um recorte sobre a constituição do corpo nas dinâmicas e estruturações psicóticas. Com ele se objectiva realizar uma pequena reflexão sobre a origem do discurso psicótico, de forma a colaborar com uma escuta mais sensível e mais atenta na clínica, assim como tentar analisar a relação que tem o psicótico com seu corpo e sua psique. Encontramos um sujeito alienado no desejo de um Outro especular, que surge da não ocorrência da simbolização de um significante que exerça função de integrador. Assim, abordar-se-á se houve a existência ou não de uma edificação da imagem responsável pela unificação desse corpo.The object of this work is to outline how the body is constituted with respect to its psychotic dynamics and structure. It is intended to propose a small reflection on the origin of the psychotic discourse, aiming at a more sensitive and careful clinical attitude, and also at attempting to learn about the relation of the psychotics with their body and their psyche. It has found an alienated subject regarding the desire of a specular Other, that appears from the nonoccurrence of the symbolization of a significant who plays the role of integrator. Therefore, it shall investigate the existence or not of the building of an image responsible for unifying such body

The Paratexts of the Brazilian Translations of A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man

This article aims to discuss the paratexts found in the first edition (fi rst printing only) of each of the fi ve translations of A portrait of the Artist asa Young Man (1916), by James Joyce (1882-1941), in Brazilian  Portuguese. From cover to back cover, including prefaces, illustrations, and other paratexts, the fi ve translations (1945, 1992, 2013, 2014, and 2016) differ considerably. The rationale of this paper lies in the fact that the reception of an author in a target culture does not depend only on how his or her text is translated but also on the paratexts that “envelop” it. So A Portrait is not read in Brazil through the translations of its text only, since the ways in which the original paratexts (title and epigraph) and the added ones (notes, for example) are translated signifi cantly affect the reading experience.Keywords: Paratexts; titles; Joyce; translation; Portuguese language

Devaneios e realidade em Balzac, Flaubert e Joyce

O presente trabalho parte da leitura de excertos dos romances O Pai Goriot, Madame Bovary e Um Retrato do Artista quando Jovem, dos autores Balzac, Flaubert e Joyce, respectivamente, usando, como embasamento teórico, os conceitos de automatização, forma e função dos formalistas russos Chkloviski e Tynianov. O objetivo foi encontrar formas símiles nos três romances e analisar se o reaparecimento de uma mesma temática se dá em uma automatização ou se há uma mudança de função. Foi encontrada a forma símile devaneio, comum aos três romances. A conclusão foi que não há uma automatização, visto que em cada uma das obras a forma aparece com uma função distinta no texto

"I WILL NOT SERVE" - UM RETRATO DO ARTISTA QUANDO INTERPRETADO POR KARL OVE KNAUSGÅRD

O presente artigo visa discutir idéias expressas pelo romancista norueguês Karl Ove Knausgård sobre o fenômeno literário, mais precisamente sobre o que Knausgård chama de ‘a verdadeira essência da literatura’. Para tanto, o prefácio escrito por Knausgård para a edição comemorativa de 100 de lançamento do romance Um retrato do artista como jovem, do romancista irlandês James Joyce, juntamente com trechos da obra Minha luta, de autoria do próprio Knausgård, serão tomados como principais referenciais para os pontos de vista expressos pelo romancista. Espera-se que o texto seja capaz de explicitar como a concepção de Knausgård acerca do fenômeno literário está calcada em questionáveis pressupostos basicamente essencialistas. O texto problematiza tais pressupostos contrapondo-os à própria obra de Knausgård, ao romance de Joyce sobre o qual Knausgard escreve e a partir do qual desenvolve sua concepção, assim como a ideias de Roland Barthes e Stuart Hall que vão de encontro às colocações de Knausgård

Voo breve sob o sol : da epifania ao poema

Esta tese é composta por três partes principais: um livro inédito de poemas, intitulado Voo breve sob o sol; uma reflexão teórico-ensaística em torno da noção de epifania, dividida em dois capítulos; e um breve depoimento de criaç~o. No capítulo inicial, “Ou o encantamento do coraç~o”, narro meu percurso até o tema deste trabalho, descrevo o conceito joyciano de epifania e comento algumas noções correlatas. O segundo capítulo, “A vida aos pedaços: uma poética do fragmento”, apresenta o contexto em que o livro foi escrito e trata da prática da anotação, tomando-a como rastro concreto deixado pela experiência epifânica no processo criativo. Aborda, além disso, outros tipos de fragmento ou detalhe que podem ser relacionados à epifania, como o punctum e o biografema barthesianos. J| no capítulo final, “Sobre dois poemas: alguns rastros”, comento a criação de “Atavismo” e “Herança”, poemas que integram o livro, buscando dialogar com a reflexão teórico-ensaística apresentada nos capítulos anteriores.This thesis is made up of three main parts: an unpublished poetry collection, titled Voo breve sob o sol; a theoretical essay on the notion of epiphany, divided into two chapters; and a brief account of my creative process. In the opening chapter, “Ou o encantamento do coração”, I narrate my journey to the subject of this thesis, describe James Joyce’s concept of epiphany and comment on some related notions. The second chapter, “A vida aos pedaços: uma poética do fragmento”, presents the context in which the book was written and deals with the practice of taking notes, considering them as concrete traces left by epiphanic experience in the creative process. This chapter also addresses other types of fragment or detail which can be associated with epiphany, such as Roland Barthes’s concepts of punctum and biographeme. In the final chapter, “Sobre dois poemas: alguns rastros”, I comment on the creation of two poems which are part of the book, relating this process with the reflection presented in the previous chapters
