This paper aims to be a useful tool to easily locate the bibliography related to any aspect of teaching Spanish as a foreign language in the existing databases. The lack of unification in the building of databases proves to be the biggest problem in their use. This article will provide the necessary keys to easily find the academic papers related to any aspect of Spanish as a foreign language, a field in which scientific production is increasing at great speed

Quantitative concepts in third grade reading and content-subject textbooks

Thesis (Ed.M.)--Boston UniversityIt is the purpose of this study to list the quantitative concepts that occur in selected reading and content-subject third-grade textbooks and to determine the frequency of their occurrence. There were several reasons for the selection of the above topic: 1. the continuing trend in education toward closer correlation (of. such terms as unit, fusion, integration, etc.); 2. the increasing emphasis upon the importance of meanings, understandings, and concepts (of. such phrases, especially, as concept of number, concept of words, concept of processes, concept of skills, etc.); and 3. the suggestions, in articles (especially those 1n research periodicals) that indicate the need for new research concerning quantitative concepts and the teaching of such concepts

    The Undergraduate Creative Writing Workshop

    Get PDF
More and more institutions are offering undergraduate Creative Writing Programmes. Many of these offer the workshop as part of that programme. The undergraduate creative writing workshop differs from the postgraduate one and is also different from workshops offered outside of the academy. This paper defines that workshop, and discusses some of its advantages and disadvantages. It offers some further thoughts about the undergraduate creative writing workshop in general. It looks at the format used at one institution, showing how previous modules feed into a Level 3 two semester long workshop. It illustrates the practice of one particular lecturer, giving special emphasis to how work is marked and feedback given within sessions to ensure maximum confidence and progress in students. Suggestions are made of useful strategies for workshop facilitators. This paper proposes that participating in a workshop is a skill that needs to be taught and that that skill is enhanced in students as they progress through the three levels, which in turn leads to the nature of the workshop changing as they progress

The emergence and growth of US-style business education in Mexico (1955-2005)

Structured Abstract Purpose - This article contributes to efforts documenting the incursion of Anglo-American capitalism into Latin America by looking at the emergence and development of graduate and postgraduate business education in Mexico. Design/methodology/approach - Archival research (including current writings) combines with unstructured interviews and a database of teaching case studies. The database considers teaching case studies looking at multinational companies working in Mexico and cases focusing on Mexican companies. Findings – The emergence of graduate degrees in management during the 1950s and 1960s mirrors a move to a more hierarchical structure of family businesses. The emergence of postgraduate business education in the 1960s reflects the existence of a large group of salaried managers. Between 1948 and 1997, teaching case studies overwhelmingly sought to help US managers doing business in Mexico. Since then a significantly greater number of Mexican business experiences have been documented, suggesting a greater effort to link indigenous businesses with trends in global companies. Originality/value – Contribute to a better understanding of the interaction between multinationals, indigenous businesses and management education in emerging markets. Paper type - Empirical.master’s in management, case method, business schools, family businesses, multinationals, Mexico, USA

The issue is... the occupational therapist’s role in addressing the silent sequelae associated with cancer-related cognitive dysfunction among survivors of cancer

The National Comprehensive Cancer Network identified occupational therapy as a first line of intervention for the treatment of cancer-related cognitive dysfunction (CRCD) (National Comprehensive Cancer Network [NCCN], 2016). Thus, occupational therapists have an opportunity to develop interventions that facilitate participation in meaningful occupations for survivors of cancer living with CRCD. In this article, we argue for occupational therapists to create occupation- and evidence-based, client-centered interventions for survivors of cancer with CRCD that address the multidimensional presentation of CRCD. One survivor’s story illustrates the affect of CRCD on occupational performance and the features to consider when developing interventions to meet the unique needs of survivors of cancer with CRCD. We recommend that interventions can be provided through self-paced home programming, community settings, or delivered through modes such as tele-rehabilitation to reach the growing population of survivors of cancer

ALTERNTIVE PROTECTION OF BIOPOTATOES IN ORGANIC FARMING

There were tested water extracts from Syringa vulgaris and Pyrethrum parthenium. They did not prove significant differences of decrease of the air attack of Colorado potato beetle (Leptinotarsa decemlineata), the activity of eggs – laying and the occurrence of larvae in comparison to the control. Interesting trends of lower-eggs lying and a lower larvae occurrence were discovered. The liquid spray against the late blight (Phytophthora infestans) did not significantly decrease neither occurrence of late blight or the yield. The production of the bio-potatoes is only 0,2 % of all potatoes production in the Czech Republic. The aim of this experiment was to try alternative methods of regulation of Colorado potato beetle and late blight (the biggest harmfull organisms of potatoes). For biological agriculture could be also suitable water extracts. These are possible to use as protection of potatoes against unfavorable factors (Colorado potate beetle and late blight) and increase yield and quality of production
