THE ABSENCE OF IMPORTANT CAREWORDS AMONG UNIVERSITY WEBSITES: A PRELIMINARY STUDY ON WEB USABILITY
Most universities have a website with one of prevalent basic purpose is to provide an information to current
and prospective students. The university web developers quite often neglect the process to incorporate
customers’ voice during the development process, as suggested by the web usability, an area within humancomputer
interaction (HCI) research. As many web users rely on a search engine to seek information, the
inclusion of words that are most likely used by them (called carewords), in a web site are very critical. This
paper aims to present a preliminary investigation of usability aspects in university websites, by focusing on the
web content. This study applies Internet research methods. A simulation of a hypothetical case in which a
prospective university student intends to study in Surabaya is performed. Search-words “kuliah di Surabaya”,
“universitas di Surabaya”, and “kuliah teknik industri” are applied in Yahoo and Google search engines. The
top 20 links obtained from each searching task are analyzed. Secondary data from EPSBED website was supplied to support the analysis. Furthermore, a content analysis using was conducted to selected websites of universities located in Surabaya. Overall, the findings emphasize that mismatch between the terms used by audiences and those presented in the web content could reduce the visibility of the website. Finally, this study suggests the university web developers to be more intensive applying usability principles to make their websites visible and accessible to potential students, as well as usable to other intended stakeholders
Improving the Power Electronics Laboratory teaching/learning process: an interactive web tool

Resumen: The forthcoming European Higher Education Area implies an important change in the teaching/learning process: it is necessary to get students more involved as well as to promote their independence and active participation. To achieve this objective, the new teaching methodologies aimed at more effective and appropriate learning for professional practice involve the use of audiovisual, computer and multimedia tools on the part of lecturers. Therefore, a web tool, based on a content management system, has been developed for the teaching in Power Electronics Laboratory. Moreover, the use of these multimedia tools makes possible to promote the students independence. ScotGrid: A Prototype Tier 2 Centre
ScotGrid is a prototype regional computing centre formed as a collaboration
between the universities of Durham, Edinburgh and Glasgow as part of the UK's
national particle physics grid, GridPP. We outline the resources available at
the three core sites and our optimisation efforts for our user communities. We
discuss the work which has been conducted in extending the centre to embrace
new projects both from particle physics and new user communities and explain

Particularly when compared to massively multiplayer online role-playing games, virtual worlds create very different learning and teaching opportunities through markets, creation, and connections to the real world, and lack of overt game goals. This chapter aims to expose a wide audience to the breadth and depth of learning occurring within Second Life (SL). A Time Projection Chamber with GEM-Based Readout
For the International Large Detector concept at the planned International
Linear Collider, the use of time projection chambers (TPC) with micro-pattern
gas detector readout as the main tracking detector is investigated. In this
paper, results from a prototype TPC, placed in a 1 T solenoidal field and read
out with three independent GEM-based readout modules, are reported. The TPC was
exposed to a 6 GeV electron beam at the DESY II synchrotron. The efficiency for
reconstructing hits, the measurement of the drift velocity, the space point
resolution and the control of field inhomogeneities are presented.Comment: 22 pages, 19 figure
