    The subject of the article is to present an outline of the reception of Julian Tuwim’s works in the last decade. “The Prince of Poets” of the interwar period, well known in the post-war era, is less and less known today. Post-war generations of poets made no particular references to Tuwim and his poetry, and even though many critical works are being published about him, Tuwim’s works do not engage critics who would be able to reconnect his writing with the contemporary world. Tuwim is disappearing from school literary curricula, contemporary readers remember only his children’s poems and one can doubt whether this situation can be changed by an extensive, multifaceted work by Piotr Matywiecki Twarz Tuwima (Tuwim’s face), the comprehensive and readable biography of the poet.     Methods of Nature: Landscapes from the Gettysburg College Collection is the third annual exhibition curated by students enrolled in the Art History Methods course. The exhibition is an exciting academic endeavor and incredible opportunity for engaged learning, research, and curatorial experience. The five student curators are Molly Chason ’17, Leah Falk ’18, Shannon Gross ’17, Bailey Harper ’19 and Laura Waters ’19. The selection of artworks in this exhibition includes the depiction of landscape in the nineteenth- and twentieth-century French, American and East Asian cultural traditions in various art forms from traditional media of paintings and prints to utilitarian artifacts of porcelain and a paper folding fan. Landscape paintings in this exhibition are inspired by nature, specific locales and literature. Each object carries a distinctive characteristic, a mood, and an ambience.     Geographically touring the eastern bloc: British geography, travel cultures and the Cold War

    This paper considers the role of travel in the generation of geographical knowledge of the eastern bloc by British geographers. Based on oral history and surveys of published work, the paper examines the roles of three kinds of travel experience: individual private travels, tours via state tourist agencies, and tours by academic delegations. Examples are drawn from across the eastern bloc, including the USSR, Poland, Romania, East Germany and Albania. The relationship between travel and publication is addressed, notably within textbooks, and in the Geographical Magazine. The study argues for the extension of accounts of cultures of geographical travel, and seeks to supplement the existing historiography of Cold War geography

    Broken avant-garde movement. Reinterpretation of russian avant-garde ideas in contemporary architecture

    In the modern architecture of Russia, there is a shortage of morphological ideas associated with the loss of identity. Is it possible to revive the architecture of the avant-garde of the 1920s in order to find a vector for the further development of the Russian architectural movement? The study was based on theoretical, analytical and comparative methods. A theoretical material was collected on the origins of the formation of avant-garde movement in the Soviet Union and the influence of art on the appearance and the development of style. Were analyzed the conditions in which the avant-garde movement was developed and was sharply broken. Also was implemented an analysis of the projects and constructed buildings of avant-garde masters and leading modern architects, whose projects remind of stylistic of the Soviet avant-garde architecture. The result of the study is the project of reconstruction of Paveletskaya Square in Moscow. During the development of the project, were used the concepts and ideas of the art and architecture of the Soviet avant-garde. The project proved that, being inspired by the creative potential of Russian architecture of a hundred years ago, it is possible to create a successful contemporary architectural ensemble in modern Moscow. Which will become a combination of the national heritage of the past and the possible vector of further development of the architecture of Russia
