What Works in Writing
For this self-study, I developed and presented a series of authentic writing experiences and corresponding mini-lessons for fourth graders. This study looks at my journey through the early stages of implementation of a literacy program based on writer\u27s workshop. The goal of this study was to answer the questions of which teaching methods best engage and motivate students, whether the implementation of some components of writing workshop leads to differentiated, individualized instruction in support of all students\u27 writing, and how to balance grammar instruction with workshop practices. By evaluating my lesson plans, student work, writing conference transcripts and field notes, I find that student-teacher writing conferences are especially useful, both for differentiating instruction and for developing positive attitudes about writing. The results highlight the importance of explicit instruction of the writing process in order to teach the skills needed to create an effective writers\u27 workshop
The Waldschmidt constant for squarefree monomial ideals
Given a squarefree monomial ideal , we show
that , the Waldschmidt constant of , can be expressed as
the optimal solution to a linear program constructed from the primary
decomposition of . By applying results from fractional graph theory, we can
then express in terms of the fractional chromatic number of
a hypergraph also constructed from the primary decomposition of . Moreover,
expressing as the solution to a linear program enables us
to prove a Chudnovsky-like lower bound on , thus verifying a
conjecture of Cooper-Embree-H\`a-Hoefel for monomial ideals in the squarefree
case. As an application, we compute the Waldschmidt constant and the resurgence
for some families of squarefree monomial ideals. For example, we determine both
constants for unions of general linear subspaces of with few
components compared to , and we find the Waldschmidt constant for the
Stanley-Reisner ideal of a uniform matroid.Comment: 26 pages. This project was started at the Mathematisches
Forschungsinstitut Oberwolfach (MFO) as part of the mini-workshop "Ideals of
Linear Subspaces, Their Symbolic Powers and Waring Problems" held in February

HUBUNGAN PEMANFAATAN DANA BANTAUAN OPERASIONAL KESEHATAN DENGAN CAKUPAN PROGRAM KESEHATAN IBU DI KABUPATEN KONAWE SELATAN: The Relationship Between The Utilization of Health Operational Assistance Funds and The Coverage of Maternal Health Programs in South Konawe Regency
Introduction: Health Operational Assistance (HOA) is the government program for financing the mandatory health effort which is include promotive and preventive health effort. However untill now the health programs that funded by BOK (HOA) especially maternal health program is not indicate the maksimum result or it is not achieve the target of Minimum Service Standdard that required to achieve the 100% targets. Every year the maternal mortality is excelsior, the coverage maternal health is decline.
Objective: This research is aimed to find out the relationship between the utilization of health opperational assistance funds and the coverage of the maternal health program namely the fourth antenatal health service (K4), Childbirth assistance by the health and childbirth labour in health facility in South Konawe regency based on HOA (BOK) fund allocations aspect and the implementation of mini clinic workshop.
Method: The kind of research is cross sectional study. Population in this research are the head of clinic, the HOA (BOK) fund’s organizer, the maternal health program’s organizer, coordinator midwife, the village’s midwife in 23 clinics in South Konawe regency. The population number in this research are 115 respondents. Sample in this research are 85 respondents from 17 clinics. Sample interpretation techniques in this research used Stratified Proportional Simple Random Sampling. Analysis data based on descriptive and inferential held with bivariate analysis by meas of chi square stage.
Result: Majority the respondent’s age around 26-30, educational level on stratum Diploma III. The research result indicates that there is no relationship between mini clinic workshop and coverage maternal health program, acquired value X2 arithmetic< X2 table (0,360<3,841). Existing meaningful relation between BOK (HOA) fund’s allocation and coverage maternal health program, value X2 arithmetic < X2 table (4,663 > 3,841). The result of closeness relation test indicates coefficient Phi(?) as big as 0,427, this case indicates the strength relation between BOK (HOA) fund’s allocation and coverage maternal health program in South Konawe regency.
Conclusion: interm rise the coverage maternal health program, the evaluatio of BOK (HOA) fund’s utilizing is necessary in clinic especially on fund’s allocation distribution for priority and evaluation of mini clinic workshop implementation.

The Effect of Staff Training on the Level of Engagement with Individuals with Developmental Disabilities within Two Day-Habilitation Settings
This study examined the effects of a staff-training intervention on the use of engagement procedures by direct-care staff who worked with adults with developmental disabilities. The intervention consisted of a mini-workshop, observation and feedback to staff members, on-the-job coaching of staff members, and a lottery incentive program. The intervention was implemented within two different types of day programs. In both types of day programs, the intervention increased the use of engagement procedures by staff members and produced both an increase in the clients' engagement and a reduction in the clients' inappropriate behaviors
Writers workshop in a second grade classroom
A writers workshop consists of peer and teacher interaction in assigned small groups. For this project, a writers workshop was implemented in a second grade classroom. A print-rich environment and a careful introduction to the components of the writing process were the basis of the program. Students were offered a continuous and predictable workshop schedule. Guidance was given in the form of student-teacher conferences, mini-lessons and the introduction of many genres of writing

The Effects of a Balanced Reading Program on Second Grade Reading Achievement
The purpose of the thesis was to examine the positive effects a well-balanced reading program had on second graders reading achievement. There are many components that go into a well-balanced reading program. This study defined how some of the components were implemented, and in turn how the students benefited from a program that has the essential components students need to become successful independent readers.
The subjects in this study were ten second-grade students from an urban elementary school. Each of the subjects was in the same first and second grade classroom with the same teacher. The students looped with the same teacher from first to second grade. They were taught both years using the same reading workshop format. Components of the balanced reading program are clearly defined in the study. The focal point of the research centered on the benefits of guided reading used during the researchers reading block. Running records were used on an ongoing basis to document student growth. The study tried to determine what elements contributed most to student growth in the area of reading.
The findings revealed that using a reading workshop format with a strong guided reading component significantly helped students achieve as readers. The findings reveal one model that can help foster independent readers at a developmentally appropriate rate using texts that are at the child\u27s level and strategy and skill based mini-lessons
