Designing intelligent computer‐based simulations: A pragmatic approach

    Get PDF
This paper examines the design of intelligent multimedia simulations. A case study is presented which uses an approach based in part on intelligent tutoring system design to integrate formative assessment into the learning of clinical decision‐making skills for nursing students. The approach advocated uses a modular design with an integrated intelligent agent within a multimedia simulation. The application was created using an object‐orientated programming language for the multimedia interface (Delphi) and a logic‐based interpreted language (Prolog) to create an expert assessment system. Domain knowledge is also encoded in a Windows help file reducing some of the complexity of the expert system. This approach offers a method for simplifying the production of an intelligent simulation system. The problems developing intelligent tutoring systems are examined and an argument is made for a practical approach to developing intelligent multimedia simulation systems

    MEDIA LICENSING SYSTEM

    Get PDF
A media licensing system can be used to license user generated media content on a multimedia platform. The media licensing system receives a media file uploaded by a user on the multimedia platform. The system prompts the user to identify whether to make the media file available in a repository of stock media content. The system also prompts the user to select a monetization method, which can include royaltybearing and royaltyfree options. The system stores the media file as a licensed media file available to video creators

PERFORMANCE STUDY OF AD HOC WIRELESS LAN FOR MULTIMEDIA STREAMING APPLICATIONS

Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) provides high-speed and cable-free access for computer-to-computer information transfer within the coverage range. The optional feature of WLAN is ad hoc, which allows the network to be formed and deformed without the need of system administration or access point. Multimedia streaming through WLAN allows users to download and play a small chunk of the multimedia file simultaneously. An ad hoc base wireless network is used in this project rather than infrastructure base due to the simpler architecture, cheaper set up cost of ad hoc network and no system administrator required. Unlike file sharing, streaming will not download the whole file. Streaming can be used for multimedia distribution without users having the illegal copies of the file. In this project, a multimedia file is to be streamed, but not downloaded, through the WLAN without passing through any access point. The host computer broadcast the multimedia file using "media server configurator" while the client computer streamed from the host computer using "streaming media player". Multihop streaming allows a node that is totally out of the coverage range to stream from the host computer, using the bridge as a passage. The streaming of the multimedia file is seamless and smooth within the ad hoc network. A node that is out of the coverage range can stream from the host computer by using the multi-hop concept although the distance between the host and the client does affect the performance. In multi-hop wireless network, the streaming process is at its best when the bridge is about 3 meters away from the receiving node

[EN] IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) is a robust multimedia service. IMS becomes more important when delivering multimedia services. Multimedia service providers can benefit from IMS to ensure a good QoE (Quality of Experience) to their customers with minimal resources usage. In this paper, we propose an intelligent media distribution IMS system architecture for delivering video streaming. The system is based primarily on uploading a multimedia file to a server in the IMS. Later, other users can download the uploaded multimedia file from the IMS. In the system, we also provide the design of the heuristic decision methods and models based on probability distributions. Thus, our system takes into account the network parameters such as bandwidth, jitter, delay and packet loss that influence the QoE of the end -users. Moreover, we have considered the other parameters of the energy consumption such as CPU, RAM, temperature and number connected users that impact the result of the QoE. All these parameters are considered as input to our proposal management system. The measurements taken from the real test bench show the real performance and demonstrate the success of the system about ensuring the upload speed of the multimedia file, guaranteeing the QoE of end users and improving the energy efficiency of the IMS.This work has been partially supported by the "Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovation", through the "Plan Nacional de I+D+i 2008-2011" in the "Subprograma de Proyectos de Investigation Fundamental", project TEC2011-27516, and by the Polytechnic University of Valencia, though the PAID-15-11 multidisciplinary projects.Canovas Solbes, A.; Taha, M.; Lloret, J.; Tomás Gironés, J. Next generation wireless networks rely on heterogeneous connectivity technologies to support various rich media services such as personal information storage, file sharing and multimedia streaming. Due to users’ mobility and dynamic characteristics of wireless networks, data availability in collaborating devices is a critical issue. In this context Smart PIN was proposed as a personal information network which focuses on performance of delivery and cost efficiency. Smart PIN uses a novel data replication scheme based on individual and overall system utility to best balance the requirements for static data and multimedia content delivery with variable device availability due to user mobility. Simulations show improved results in comparison with other general purpose data replication schemes in terms of data availability

We describe an on-going project to develop a Network Multimedia File System (NMFS) protocol. The protocol allows "transparent access of shared files across networks" as Sun's NFS protocol does, but attempts to meet a real-time delivery schedule. NMFS is designed to provide ubiquitous service over networks both designed and not designed to carry multimedia traffic

Dari hasil pengujian, didapatkan perbedaan performansi yang cukup dignifikan dari file system databaseKata Kunci : Multimedia database, performansiABSTRACT: Nowadays, in information era, the development of multimedia is increasing rapidly. The data exchange which happen not only just structured data, but also unstructured dat such as multimedia data. Therefore, we need a storage that can manage easily and guarantee data integration. Multimedia database is one of storage media that we hope can guarantee factors mentioned above, but the multimedia database has limitations that can influence performance of proccess read and write that file. Because in teoriticly, the proccess read and write into application layer is longer than file system layer so that can decrease the performance In this final project, the performance of multimedia database will be analyzed in response time, throughput, and some superior features. From testing result, the difference of performance of multimedia database is quite significant from file system database.Keyword: Multimedia database, performanc
