The aerospace energy systems laboratory: Hardware and software implementation
For many years NASA Ames Research Center, Dryden Flight Research Facility has employed automation in the servicing of flight critical aircraft batteries. Recently a major upgrade to Dryden's computerized Battery Systems Laboratory was initiated to incorporate distributed processing and a centralized database. The new facility, called the Aerospace Energy Systems Laboratory (AESL), is being mechanized with iAPX86 and iAPX286 hardware running iRMX86. Second year technical report on-board processing for future satellite communications systems
Advanced baseband and microwave switching techniques for large domestic communications satellites operating in the 30/20 GHz frequency bands are discussed. The nominal baseband processor throughput is one million packets per second (1.6 Gb/s) from one thousand T1 carrier rate customer premises terminals. A frequency reuse factor of sixteen is assumed by using 16 spot antenna beams with the same 100 MHz bandwidth per beam and a modulation with a one b/s per Hz bandwidth efficiency. Eight of the beams are fixed on major metropolitan areas and eight are scanning beams which periodically cover the remainder of the U.S. under dynamic control. User signals are regenerated (demodulated/remodulated) and message packages are reformatted on board. Frequency division multiple access and time division multiplex are employed on the uplinks and downlinks, respectively, for terminals within the coverage area and dwell interval of a scanning beam. Link establishment and packet routing protocols are defined. Also described is a detailed design of a separate 100 x 100 microwave switch capable of handling nonregenerated signals occupying the remaining 2.4 GHz bandwidth with 60 dB of isolation, at an estimated weight and power consumption of approximately 400 kg and 100 W, respectively
ARM2GC: Succinct Garbled Processor for Secure Computation
We present ARM2GC, a novel secure computation framework based on Yao's
Garbled Circuit (GC) protocol and the ARM processor. It allows users to develop
privacy-preserving applications using standard high-level programming languages
(e.g., C) and compile them using off-the-shelf ARM compilers (e.g., gcc-arm).
The main enabler of this framework is the introduction of SkipGate, an
algorithm that dynamically omits the communication and encryption cost of the
gates whose outputs are independent of the private data. SkipGate greatly
enhances the performance of ARM2GC by omitting costs of the gates associated
with the instructions of the compiled binary, which is known by both parties
involved in the computation. Our evaluation on benchmark functions demonstrates
that ARM2GC not only outperforms the current GC frameworks that support
high-level languages, it also achieves efficiency comparable to the best prior
solutions based on hardware description languages. Moreover, in contrast to
previous high-level frameworks with domain-specific languages and customized
compilers, ARM2GC relies on standard ARM compiler which is rigorously verified
and supports programs written in the standard syntax.Comment: 13 page

Bubble-In is a cloud-based test-taking system build for students and teachers. The Bubble-In system is a test-taking application that interfaces with a cloud server. The mobile applications have been built for Android and Apple devices and the webserver is hosted on Digital Ocean VPS run with Nginx. The Bubble-In application is equipped with anti-cheating mechanisms such as question-answer key scrambling, not allowing screenshots, screen recording, or leaving the application. The tests students take are sent to the webserver to be graded and have statistics calculated and displayed in easy to use format for the test creator. Instructors can use the webserver to create exams or modify existing exams. This application was developed in Android Studio and XCode. These features were built using Java, Swift, Obj-C, PHP, HTTP requests, and MySQL. The application interacts with the database through the Nginx web server
Open-source lab hardware: A versatile microfluidic control and sensor platform
Here we describe a completely integrated and customizable microfluidic control and sensing architecture that can be readily implemented for laboratory or portable chemical or biological control and sensing applications. The compact platform enables control of 32 solenoid valves, a multitude of pumps and motors, a thermo-electric controller, a pressure controller, and a high voltage power supply. It also features two temperature probe interfaces, one relative humidity and ambient temperature sensor, two pressure sensors, and interfaces to an electrical conductivity sensor, flow sensor, and a bubble detector. The platform can be controlled via an onboard microcontroller and requires no proprietary software.

Space Generic Open Avionics Architecture (SGOAA) reference model technical guide
This report presents a full description of the Space Generic Open Avionics Architecture (SGOAA). The SGOAA consists of a generic system architecture for the entities in spacecraft avionics, a generic processing architecture, and a six class model of interfaces in a hardware/software system. The purpose of the SGOAA is to provide an umbrella set of requirements for applying the generic architecture interface model to the design of specific avionics hardware/software systems. The SGOAA defines a generic set of system interface points to facilitate identification of critical interfaces and establishes the requirements for applying appropriate low level detailed implementation standards to those interface points. The generic core avionics system and processing architecture models provided herein are robustly tailorable to specific system applications and provide a platform upon which the interface model is to be applied
Army-NASA aircrew/aircraft integration program (A3I) software detailed design document, phase 3
The capabilities and design approach of the MIDAS (Man-machine Integration Design and Analysis System) computer-aided engineering (CAE) workstation under development by the Army-NASA Aircrew/Aircraft Integration Program is detailed. This workstation uses graphic, symbolic, and numeric prototyping tools and human performance models as part of an integrated design/analysis environment for crewstation human engineering. Developed incrementally, the requirements and design for Phase 3 (Dec. 1987 to Jun. 1989) are described. Software tools/models developed or significantly modified during this phase included: an interactive 3-D graphic cockpit design editor; multiple-perspective graphic views to observe simulation scenarios; symbolic methods to model the mission decomposition, equipment functions, pilot tasking and loading, as well as control the simulation; a 3-D dynamic anthropometric model; an intermachine communications package; and a training assessment component. These components were successfully used during Phase 3 to demonstrate the complex interactions and human engineering findings involved with a proposed cockpit communications design change in a simulated AH-64A Apache helicopter/mission that maps to empirical data from a similar study and AH-1 Cobra flight test
