Ten challenges in modeling bibliographic data for bibliometric analysis

The complexity and variety of bibliographic data is growing, and efforts to define new methodologies and techniques for bibliometric analysis are intensifying. In this complex scenario, one of the most crucial issues is the quality of data and the capability of bibliometric analysis to cope with multiple data dimensions. Although the problem of enforcing a multidimensional approach to the analysis and management of bibliographic data is not new, a reference design pattern and a specific conceptual model for multidimensional analysis of bibliographic data are still missing. Argentina como objeto de investigación : Reflexiones conceptuales y aproximaciones metodológicas para el abordaje bibliométrico de la producción científica sobre temas de alcance nacional

En Argentina, las políticas nacionales de investigación de los últimos años manifiestan una clara orientación hacia temas y problemas sociales y productivos locales, en medio de tensiones hacia el interior de la comunidad científica y con los organismos de promoción y evaluación de la investigación entre la pertinencia y la excelencia de los resultados científicos. El proyecto PICT 2011-2183 "Argentina como objeto de estudio en la producción científica con visibilidad regional e internacional. Una aproximación al estudio del dominio temático argentino", acreditado por la ANPCYT, tiene como principales objetivos caracterizar la producción científica con visibilidad en fuentes regionales e internacionales abocada a temas y problemáticas circunscritas al dominio temático "Argentina"; y analizar y describir el perfil de los investigadores y la composición de las redes de colaboración que conforman las comunidades científicas que estudian estos temas. Which Conference Is That? A Case Study in Computer Science

Conferences play a major role in some disciplines such as computer science and are often used in research quality evaluation exercises. Differently from journals and books, for which ISSN and ISBN codes provide unambiguous keys, recognizing the conference series in which a paper was published is a rather complex endeavor: There is no unique code assigned to conferences, and the way their names are written may greatly vary across years and catalogs. In this article, we propose a technique for the entity resolution of conferences based on the analysis of different semantic parts of their names. We present the results of an investigation of our technique on a dataset of 42,395 distinct computer science conference names excerpted from the DBLP computer science repository,1 which we automatically link to different authority files. With suitable data cleaning, the precision of our record linkage algorithm can be as high as 94%. A comparison with results obtainable using state-of-the-art general-purpose record linkage algorithms rounds off the article, showing that our ad hoc solution largely outperforms them in terms of the quality of the results

Analisis Bibliometrik dalam Penelitian Bidang Pendidikan: Teori dan Implementasi

Bibliometrics is an analysis method that uses Mathematical and statistical tools to measure the interrelationships and impact of publications in a particular research area. Bibliometric analysis is a popular method used to analyze large amounts of scientific data and this analysis is rigorous in nature with the aim of exploring that data. The use of this analysis in research allows researchers to uncover the evolutionary nuances of a particular field, while highlighting emerging areas in that field, including the field of education. In this paper, the researcher will use a type of literature research or literature review with the descriptive research method, which is to describe regularly and in detail the data obtained related to the bibliometric method, so that finally the readers get a clear understanding of the descriptions and explanations presented. The focus of this study is on the fundamental question in research methodology, which is what is bibliometric analysis and how is it used in education research? What are the key metrics and indicators used in bibliometric analysis for education research? What are the challenges and limitations associated with using bibliometric analysis in education research? And the final question is what are the best practices for conducting bibliometric analysis in education research
