Synthetic aperture radar/LANDSAT MSS image registration
Algorithms and procedures necessary to merge aircraft synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and LANDSAT multispectral scanner (MSS) imagery were determined. The design of a SAR/LANDSAT data merging system was developed. Aircraft SAR images were registered to the corresponding LANDSAT MSS scenes and were the subject of experimental investigations. Results indicate that the registration of SAR imagery with LANDSAT MSS imagery is feasible from a technical viewpoint, and useful from an information-content viewpoint
Automatic reduction of four-loop bubbles
We give technical details about the computational strategy employed in a
recently completed investigation of the four-loop QCD free energy. In
particular, the reduction step from generic vacuum bubbles to master integrals
is described from a practical viewpoint, for fully massive as well as QED-type

Strategies for Consistency Checking
Viewpoint models of system development are becoming increasingly important. A major requirement for viewpoints modelling is to be able to check that the multiple viewpoint specifications are consistent with one another. The work presented in this report makes a contribution to this task. Our work is particularly influenced by the viewpoints model used in the ISO standardisation architecture for Open Distributed Processing. This report focuses on the issue of strategies for consistency checking. In particular, it considers how global consistency (between any arbitrary number of viewpoints) can be obtained from binary consistency (between two viewpoints). The report documents a number of different classes of consistency checking, from those that are very poorly behaved to those that are very well behaved. The report is intended as a companion to the work presented in [1] and it should be read in association with this document. In particular, the body of this report is a single chapter which should be viewed as additional to the chapters included in [1]. This report contains complete proofs of all relevant results, even though some of the results are obvious and some of the proofs are trivial. A much compressed version of the report is being submitted for publication. Derivation of the Quantum Probability Rule without the Frequency Operator
We present an alternative frequencists' proof of the quantum probability rule
which does not make use of the frequency operator, with expectation that this
can circumvent the recent criticism against the previous proofs which use it.
We also argue that avoiding the frequency operator is not only for technical
merits for doing so but is closely related to what quantum mechanics is all
about from the viewpoint of many-world interpretation.Comment: 12 page

Z Unification Tools in Generic Formaliser
We describe some prototype tools for performing unification (i.e. deriving the least common refinement) of simple Z specifications. The techniques used are those described in http://alethea.ukc.ac.uk/Dept/Computing/Research/NDS/consistency/cccfpsiZ.html on viewpoint specification in Z; the tools have been implemented in Generic http://public.logica.com/formaliser (a product of Logica UK Limited). Technical Efficiency in Organic Farming: an Application on Italian Cereal Farms using a Parametric Approach
A stochastic frontier production model was applied to estimate technical efficiency in a sample of Italian organic and conventional cereal farms. The main purpose was to assess which production technique revealed higher efficiency. Statistical tests on the pool sample model suggested that differences between the two cultivation methods were significant from a technological viewpoint. Separate analyses of two sub-samples (93 and 138 observations for organic and conventional farms, respectively) found that conventional farms were significantly more efficient than organic farms, with respect to their specific technology (0.892 vs. 0.825). This implies that organic (conventional) cereal farmers could increase their income to 99.19 €/ha (40.95 €/ha). Analysis also estimated that land was the technical input with the highest elasticity for both technologies. Furthermore, findings indicated that 63.7% of the differentials between observed and best-practice output was explained by technical inefficiency for the conventional group, while this value was close to unity for organic farms.
