Evolving Takagi-Sugeno-Kang fuzzy systems using multi-population grammar guided genetic programming
This work proposes a novel approach for the automatic generation and tuning of complete Takagi-Sugeno-Kang fuzzy rule based systems. The examined system aims to explore the effects of a reduced search space for a genetic programming framework by means of grammar guidance that describes candidate structures of fuzzy rule based systems. The presented approach applies context-free grammars to generate individuals and evolve solutions through the search process of the algorithm. A multi-population approach is adopted for the genetic programming system, in order to increase the depth of the search process. Two candidate grammars are examined in one regression problem and one system identification task. Preliminary results are included and discussion proposes further research directions
Comparison of different strategies of utilizing fuzzy clustering in structure identification
Fuzzy systems approximate highly nonlinear systems by means of fuzzy "if-then"
rules. In the literature, various algorithms are proposed for mining. These algorithms commonly utilize fuzzy clustering in structure identification. Basically, there are three different approaches in which one can utilize fuzzy clustering; the first one is based on input space clustering, the second one considers clustering realized in the output space, while the third one is concerned with clustering realized in the combined input-output space. In this study, we analyze these three approaches. We discuss each of the algorithms in great detail and o¤er a thorough comparative analysis. Finally, we compare the performances of these algorithms in a medical diagnosis classication problem, namely Aachen Aphasia Test. The experiment and the results provide a valuable insight about the merits and the shortcomings of these three clustering approaches

Among different kinds of models for fuzzy systems, the so-called Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model has been quite popular due to its convenient and simple dynamic structure as well as its capability of approximating any smooth nonlinear function to any specified accuracy within any compact set. In terms of such a model, the performance analysis and the design of controllers and filters play important roles in the research of fuzzy systems. In this paper, we aim to survey some recent advances on the T-S fuzzy control and filtering problems with various network-induced phenomena. The network-induced phenomena under consideration mainly include communication delays, packet dropouts, signal quantization, and randomly occurring uncertainties (ROUs). With such network-induced phenomena, the developments on T-S fuzzy control and filtering issues are reviewed in detail. In addition, some latest results on this topic are highlighted. In the end, conclusions are drawn and some possible future research directions are pointed out. This work was supported in part by the National Natural Science Foundation of China under Grants 61134009, 61329301, 11301118 and 61174136, the Natural Science Foundation of Jiangsu Province of China under Grant BK20130017, the Fundamental Research Funds for the Central Universities of China under Grant CUSF-DH-D-2013061, the Royal Society of the U.K., and the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation of Germany
A CENTER MANIFOLD THEORY-BASED APPROACH TO THE STABILITY ANALYSIS OF STATE FEEDBACK TAKAGI-SUGENO-KANG FUZZY CONTROL SYSTEMS
The aim of this paper is to propose a stability analysis approach based on the application of the center manifold theory and applied to state feedback Takagi-Sugeno-Kang fuzzy control systems. The approach is built upon a similar approach developed for Mamdani fuzzy controllers. It starts with a linearized mathematical model of the process that is accepted to belong to the family of single input second-order nonlinear systems which are linear with respect to the control signal. In addition, smooth right-hand terms of the state-space equations that model the processes are assumed. The paper includes the validation of the approach by application to stable state feedback Takagi-Sugeno-Kang fuzzy control system for the position control of an electro-hydraulic servo-system

Matrix formulation of fuzzy rule-based systems
In this paper, a matrix formulation of fuzzy rule based systems is introduced. A gradient descent training algorithm for the determination of the unknown parameters can also be expressed in a matrix form for various adaptive fuzzy networks. When converting a rule-based system to the proposed matrix formulation, only three sets of linear/nonlinear equations are required instead of set of rules and an inference mechanism. There are a number of advantages which the matrix formulation has compared with the linguistic approach. Firstly, it obviates the differences among the various architectures; and secondly, it is much easier to organize data in the implementation or simulation of the fuzzy system. The formulation will be illustrated by a number of examples
Financial Markets Analysis by Probabilistic Fuzzy Modelling
For successful trading in financial markets, it is important to develop financial models where one can identify different states of the market for modifying one???s actions. In this paper, we propose to use probabilistic fuzzy systems for this purpose. We concentrate on Takagi???Sugeno (TS) probabilistic fuzzy systems that combine interpretability of fuzzy systems with the statistical properties of probabilistic systems. We start by recapitulating the general architecture of TS probabilistic fuzzy rule-based systems and summarize the corresponding reasoning schemes. We mention how probabilities can be estimated from a given data set and how a probability distribution can be approximated by a fuzzy histogram. We apply our methodology for financial time series analysis and demonstrate how a probabilistic TS fuzzy system can be identified, assuming that a linguistic term set is given. We illustrate the interpretability of such a system by inspecting the rule bases of our models.time series analysis;data-driven design;fuzzy reasoning;fuzzy rule base;probabilistic fuzzy systems
A survey of fuzzy control for stabilized platforms
This paper focusses on the application of fuzzy control techniques (fuzzy
type-1 and type-2) and their hybrid forms (Hybrid adaptive fuzzy controller and
fuzzy-PID controller) in the area of stabilized platforms. It represents an
attempt to cover the basic principles and concepts of fuzzy control in
stabilization and position control, with an outline of a number of recent
applications used in advanced control of stabilized platform. Overall, in this
survey we will make some comparisons with the classical control techniques such
us PID control to demonstrate the advantages and disadvantages of the
application of fuzzy control techniques
