This semestral thesis deals with multicast communication. It explains the principle of multicast data transfer. It also deals with protocol for logging into groups and distributed multicast services. Using TFTP is implemented system for content distribution by multicast communication. It measure and compare the difference between unicast and multicast.

Cost-effective Ethernet Communication for Low Cost Microcontroller Architecture

With the advancement of microelectronic technology and the overall rising trend in the use of low cost microcontrollers the need to share information over the existing infrastructure is more and more emphasized. The problem that persists is how to implement Ethernet communication in low cost microcontrollers while retaining low cost of the device. This paper proposes the use of Microchip’s Stand-Alone Ethernet Controller ENC28J60 in order to establish Ethernet communication towards the application located on a Host PC. In order to reduce the induced overhead on the existing microcontroller firmware size, the paper proposes the use of User Datagram Protocol (UDP) alongside with added authentication in the form of Basic Access Authentication using the Base64 algorithm to establish communication. The communication is tested using the Atmel AVR microcontroller architecture (Atmel AVR XMEGA) and the Stand-Alone Ethernet Controller whereas the sent data is displayed on a National Instruments LabVIEW application running on a Host PC. The measurement is carried out by using network protocol analysis and the comparison is made against the existing communication protocol (TFTP). The proposed communication is compared to one of the existing protocols, Trivial File Transfer Protocol (TFTP). The results are visible in a higher data rate and a lower flash size for implementation, representing an advantage over the existing protocols

ObhájenoThe work focuses on finding a suitable solution for automated installation of computers. The analytical part is devoted to the research of available solutions for the installation of various operating systems with focus on MS Windows and GNU/Linux. Both individual methods and ready-made solutions offering the possibility of mass installations were examined. The implementation part of the thesis focuses on creating a solution for the complete life cycle of workstation installation. An important part is the creation of a web interface for managing and monitoring the installation process, which helps to operate the entire solution. In the conclusion is a description and evaluation of detailed testing in real environment of laboratories of the Department of Informatics and Computer Science

Porting the Embedded Xinu Operating System to the Raspberry Pi

This thesis presents a port of a lightweight instructional operating system called Embedded Xinu to the Raspberry Pi. The Raspberry Pi, an inexpensive credit-card-sized computer, has attracted a large community of hobbyists, researchers, and educators since its release in 2012. However, the system-level software running on the Raspberry Pi has been restricted to two ends of a spectrum: complex modern operating systems such as Linux at one end, and very simple hobbyist operating systems or simple “bare-metal” programs at the other end. This project bridges this gap by porting the Embedded Xinu operating system to the Raspberry Pi. Although simple and designed for educational use, Embedded Xinu supports major features of modern operating systems such as preemptive multitasking and networking. This thesis also presents the addition of new optional features, such as USB support, to Embedded Xinu, and demonstrates major challenges that may arise when writing device drivers for modern hardware
