Managing a portal of digital web resources by content syndication
As users become more accustomed to continuous Internet access, they will have less patience with the offering of disparate resources. A new generation of portals is being designed that aids users in navigating resource space and in processing the data they retrieved. Such portals offer added value by means of content syndication: the effort to have multiple, federated? resources co-operate in order to profit optimally from their synergy. A portal that offers these advantages, however, can only be of lasting value if it is sustainable. We sketch a way to set up and run an organisation that can manage a content syndication portal in a sustainable way.\ud

Client Acceptability for Integrating Antiretroviral Therapy in Methadone Maintenance Therapy Clinics in Sichuan, China.
BackgroundUsing methadone maintenance therapy (MMT) clinics to deliver antiretroviral therapy (ART) has proven to be effective for promoting treatment initiation and adherence in drug users living with HIV.ObjectivesThe objective of this study was to investigate the HIV-positive client acceptability of integrated ART services and to identify the reasons for and factors associated with service acceptability.MethodsA total of 86 HIV-positive MMT clients were recruited from 12 MMT clinics in Sichuan Province, China. They participated in a cross-sectional survey that queried their willingness to receive seven different types of MMT-based ART services. The reasons for their willingness/unwillingness to accept these services were documented. The association between service acceptability and background characteristics was examined.ResultsThe most accepted integrated services were ART-related counseling (75.6%) and referral (73.2%). Concerns regarding the provider's lack of ART expertise and confidentiality issues were common barriers for the acceptance of MMT-based ART services. A trust relationship with MMT providers was a reason for service acceptance. Service acceptability was associated with a poorer perceived health status. Conclusions/Importance: ART-related services, based on the client perspective, can be delivered at MMT clinics. However, service provider training and the protection of confidentiality must be strengthened for the effective implementation of integrated service delivery
Advanced instrumentation concepts for environmental control subsystems
Design, evaluation and demonstration of advanced instrumentation concepts for improving performance of manned spacecraft environmental control and life support systems were successfully completed. Concepts to aid maintenance following fault detection and isolation were defined. A computer-guided fault correction instruction program was developed and demonstrated in a packaged unit which also contains the operator/system interface
AI and OR in management of operations: history and trends
The last decade has seen a considerable growth in the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) for operations management with the aim of finding solutions to problems that are increasing in complexity and scale. This paper begins by setting the context for the survey through a historical perspective of OR and AI. An extensive survey of applications of AI techniques for operations management, covering a total of over 1200 papers published from 1995 to 2004 is then presented. The survey utilizes Elsevier's ScienceDirect database as a source. Hence, the survey may not cover all the relevant journals but includes a sufficiently wide range of publications to make it representative of the research in the field. The papers are categorized into four areas of operations management: (a) design, (b) scheduling, (c) process planning and control and (d) quality, maintenance and fault diagnosis. Each of the four areas is categorized in terms of the AI techniques used: genetic algorithms, case-based reasoning, knowledge-based systems, fuzzy logic and hybrid techniques. The development and technology transfer of software engineering technology at NASA. Johnson Space Center
The United State's big space projects of the next decades, such as Space Station and the Human Exploration Initiative, will need the development of many millions of lines of mission critical software. NASA-Johnson (JSC) is identifying and developing some of the Computer Aided Software Engineering (CASE) technology that NASA will need to build these future software systems. The goal is to improve the quality and the productivity of large software development projects. New trends are outlined in CASE technology and how the Software Technology Branch (STB) at JSC is endeavoring to provide some of these CASE solutions for NASA is described. Key software technology components include knowledge-based systems, software reusability, user interface technology, reengineering environments, management systems for the software development process, software cost models, repository technology, and open, integrated CASE environment frameworks. The paper presents the status and long-term expectations for CASE products. The STB's Reengineering Application Project (REAP), Advanced Software Development Workstation (ASDW) project, and software development cost model (COSTMODL) project are then discussed. Some of the general difficulties of technology transfer are introduced, and a process developed by STB for CASE technology insertion is described

that have been developed in CMS to facilitate software maintenance and improve
software quality. The system allows to generate, control and analyze various
types of automated software builds and tests, such as regular rebuilds of the
development code, software integration for releases and installation of the

An architecture for rule based system explanation
A system architecture is presented which incorporate both graphics and text into explanations provided by rule based expert systems. This architecture facilitates explanation of the knowledge base content, the control strategies employed by the system, and the conclusions made by the system. The suggested approach combines hypermedia and inference engine capabilities. Advantages include: closer integration of user interface, explanation system, and knowledge base; the ability to embed links to deeper knowledge underlying the compiled knowledge used in the knowledge base; and allowing for more direct control of explanation depth and duration by the user.
