Preemptive mobile code protection using spy agents

    Get PDF
This thesis introduces 'spy agents' as a new security paradigm for evaluating trust in remote hosts in mobile code scenarios. In this security paradigm, a spy agent, i.e. a mobile agent which circulates amongst a number of remote hosts, can employ a variety of techniques in order to both appear 'normal' and suggest to a malicious host that it can 'misuse' the agent's data or code without being held accountable. A framework for the operation and deployment of such spy agents is described. Subsequently, a number of aspects of the operation of such agents within this framework are analysed in greater detail. The set of spy agent routes needs to be constructed in a manner that enables hosts to be identified from a set of detectable agent-specific outcomes. The construction of route sets that both reduce the probability of spy agent detection and support identification of the origin of a malicious act is analysed in the context of combinatorial group testing theory. Solutions to the route set design problem are proposed. A number of spy agent application scenarios are introduced and analysed, including: a) the implementation of a mobile code email honeypot system for identifying email privacy infringers, b) the design of sets of agent routes that enable malicious host detection even when hosts collude, and c) the evaluation of the credibility of host classification results in the presence of inconsistent host behaviour. Spy agents can be used in a wide range of applications, and it appears that each application creates challenging new research problems, notably in the design of appropriate agent route sets

Sun Tzu’s ‘The Art of War’ is by far one of the finest political and war discourses ever written in prose form. Dating back to the Sixth Century B.C., it contains tremendous far-sighted elements of strategy and tactics embedded in it. He is often referred to as the modern-day economist a war strategist of his times. Having belonged to one of the oldest Chinese civilizations, he has spelt out clear principles of strategy and stressed the importance of tactics in war scenario. The discourse contains in it a detailed account of first-hand human experiences. The paper focuses on the strategy discourse, which is filled with courage, dedication and commitment. Tzu is seen as a realist in his approach and the discourse contains analogies on ‘Nature’. The paper also offers deep analysis of ‘craftsmanship’ of the discourse from the standpoint of discourse literature. Keywords: Sun Tzu, War, Strategy, Tactics, Craftsmanship

Kautilya’s The Arthashastra is considered one the finest political and war discourses ever written in prose form. Dating back to the 4th century, it contains a whole plethora of views on espionage elements carefully embedded in them. Kautilya, is often referred to as the modern-day economist of his times. Having belonged to one of the oldest Indian civilizations, he has spelt out clear principles for espionage and stressed the importance of spies in securing the livelihood of about six billion global citizens living across the world. The espionage discourse is filled with courage, dedication and commitment. And is also equally watered down with anxiety and unparalleled justice toward a greater cause. Kautilya is a realist and a naturalist in his approach and his discourses often contain animal analogies. This paper attempts to study the aspects on espionage laid down by Kautilya and fundamentally tries to address the modern day issues like containing terrorism, securing country’s borders and ultimately guaranteeing security of an individual. Keywords: Kautilya, The Arthashastra, espionage, spies and security

Neutrosophic Overset, Neutrosophic Underset, and Neutrosophic Offset. Similarly for Neutrosophic Over-/Under-/Off- Logic, Probability, and Statistics

Neutrosophic Over-/Under-/Off-Set and -Logic were defined by the author in 1995 and published for the first time in 2007. We extended the neutrosophic set respectively to Neutrosophic Overset {when some neutrosophic component is over 1}, Neutrosophic Underset {when some neutrosophic component is below 0}, and to Neutrosophic Offset {when some neutrosophic components are off the interval [0, 1], i.e. some neutrosophic component over 1 and other neutrosophic component below 0}. This is no surprise with respect to the classical fuzzy set/logic, intuitionistic fuzzy set/logic, or classical/imprecise probability, where the values are not allowed outside the interval [0, 1], since our real-world has numerous examples and applications of over-/under-/off-neutrosophic components. For example, person working overtime deserves a membership degree over 1, while a person producing more damage than benefit to a company deserves a membership below 0. Then, similarly, the Neutrosophic Logic/Measure/Probability/Statistics etc. were extended to respectively Neutrosophic Over-/Under-/Off-Logic, -Measure, -Probability, -Statistics etc. [Smarandache, 2007].Comment: 170 page

At first, war was only carried out by the disputing parties but as the times progressed, the war also had an impact on the surrounding area or other countries. Arrangements for war need to be made such as war treaties or procedures. One of the unclear regulations concerning the act of espionage or what is known as spying. International humanitarian law regulates the customs of war and the manner of war. It turns out that the convention does not clearly regulate the legal protection of spy agencies. This article tries to discuss the urgency of protecting spy agents who are serving in war under humanitarian law.

Citizen journalism has become the main term that refers to the various news-gathering and reporting practices conducted through various new digital technologies. One of the problems is in the era of the information society, the accuracy of news or information becomes a serious matter. The term hoax or information that contains the element of lie becomes a term that often happens almost every day. This study aims to determine how citizen journalism practices from media actors manage media PasangMata and Kompasiana, including the exploring of how theories of building citizen journalism in terms of understanding the relationship between the editor and the contributors. The paradigm of this research is interpretive, with a qualitative approach using case study method. The study emphasizes the variety of empirical experiences of the informants who are directly involved. The results of this study showed that the editor always verify data from the contributors as spy agents before the news published. The media platform is available in the form of a website and mobile application, in which the contributor submits an automatic news entry on the two platforms. Active contributors will earn points when text, photos, and videos are published. The implication of learning about the dynamics of media in the era of online media and digital media applications are the media to become a medium for audience learning and to accommodate the public interest. The audience in addition to being a news contributor is also an event spy agency
