Automatic March tests generation for static and dynamic faults in SRAMs
New memory production modern technologies introduce new classes of faults usually referred to as dynamic memory faults. Although some hand-made March tests to deal with these new faults have been published, the problem of automatically generate March tests for dynamic faults has still to be addressed, in this paper we propose a new approach to automatically generate March tests with minimal length for both static and dynamic faults. The proposed approach resorts to a formal model to represent faulty behaviors in a memory and to simplify the generation of the corresponding tests
Memory Fault Simulator for Static-Linked Faults
Static linked faults are considered an interesting class of memory faults. Their capability of influencing the behavior of other faults causes the hiding of the fault effect and makes test algorithm design and validation a very complex task. This paper presents a memory fault simulator architecture targeting the full set of linked fault
Efficient Simulation of Structural Faults for the Reliability Evaluation at System-Level
In recent technology nodes, reliability is considered a part of the standard design ¿ow at all levels of embedded system design. While techniques that use only low-level models at gate- and register transfer-level offer high accuracy, they are too inefficient to consider the overall application of the embedded system. Multi-level models with high abstraction are essential to efficiently evaluate the impact of physical defects on the system. This paper provides a methodology that leverages state-of-the-art techniques for efficient fault simulation of structural faults together with transaction-level modeling. This way it is possible to accurately evaluate the impact of the faults on the entire hardware/software system. A case study of a system consisting of hardware and software for image compression and data encryption is presented and the method is compared to a standard gate/RT mixed-level approac
IAPSA 2 small-scale system specification
The details of a hardware implementation of a representative small scale flight critical system is described using Advanced Information Processing System (AIPS) building block components and simulated sensor/actuator interfaces. The system was used to study application performance and reliability issues during both normal and faulted operation
Automatic March tests generation for multi-port SRAMs
Testing of Multi-Port (MP) SRAMs requires special tests since the multiple and simultaneous access can sensitize faults that are different from the conventional single-port memory faults. In spite of their growing use, few works have been published on testing MP memories. In addition, most of the published work concentrated only on two ports memories (i.e., 2P memories). This paper presents a methodology to automatically generate march tests for MP memories. It is based on generations of single port memory march test firstly, then extending it to test a generic MP SRAMs. A set of experimental results shows the effectiveness of the proposed solutio
Optimising Simulation Data Structures for the Xeon Phi
In this paper, we propose a lock-free architecture
to accelerate logic gate circuit simulation using SIMD multi-core
machines. We evaluate its performance on different test circuits
simulated on the Intel Xeon Phi and 2 other machines. Comparisons
are presented of this software/hardware combination with
reported performances of GPU and other multi-core simulation
platforms. Comparisons are also given between the lock free
architecture and a leading commercial simulator running on the
same Intel hardware
Parallel Architectures for Planetary Exploration Requirements (PAPER)
The Parallel Architectures for Planetary Exploration Requirements (PAPER) project is essentially research oriented towards technology insertion issues for NASA's unmanned planetary probes. It was initiated to complement and augment the long-term efforts for space exploration with particular reference to NASA/LaRC's (NASA Langley Research Center) research needs for planetary exploration missions of the mid and late 1990s. The requirements for space missions as given in the somewhat dated Advanced Information Processing Systems (AIPS) requirements document are contrasted with the new requirements from JPL/Caltech involving sensor data capture and scene analysis. It is shown that more stringent requirements have arisen as a result of technological advancements. Two possible architectures, the AIPS Proof of Concept (POC) configuration and the MAX Fault-tolerant dataflow multiprocessor, were evaluated. The main observation was that the AIPS design is biased towards fault tolerance and may not be an ideal architecture for planetary and deep space probes due to high cost and complexity. The MAX concepts appears to be a promising candidate, except that more detailed information is required. The feasibility for adding neural computation capability to this architecture needs to be studied. Key impact issues for architectural design of computing systems meant for planetary missions were also identified
FLARE: A design environment for FLASH-based space applications
Designing a mass-memory device (i.e., a solid-state recorder) is one of the typical issues of mission-critical space system applications. Flash-memories could be used for this goal: a huge number of parameters and trade-offs need to be explored. Flash-memories are nonvolatile, shock-resistant and power-economic, but in turn have different drawback: e.g., their cost is higher than normal hard disk and the number of erasure cycles is bounded. Moreover space environment presents various issues especially because of radiations: different and quite often contrasting dimensions need to be explored during the design of a flash-memory based solid-state recorder. No systematic approach has so far been proposed to consider them all as a whole: as a consequence a novel design environment currently under development is aimed at supporting the design of flash-based mass-memory device for space application
