The circulation and entanglements of human beings, data, and goods have not necessarily and by themselves generated a universalising consciousness. The "global" and the "universal", in other words, are not the same. The idea of a world-society remains highly contested. Our times are marked by the fragmentation of a double relativistic character: the inevitable critique of Western universalism on the one hand, and resurgent identitarian and neo-nationalistic claims to identity on the other. Sources of an argumentation for a strong universalism brought forward by Western traditions such as Christianity, Marxism, and Liberalism have largely lost their legitimation. All the while, manifold and situated narratives of a common world that re-address the universal are under way of being produced and gain significance. This project employs a theoretical framework drawn from Gilles Deleuze\u27s Logique du sens in order to examine the potential for literature to make permeable the thresholds of the subject. International audienceEn s'inscrivant dans la parenté, l'expérience transgenre nous projette dans un monde où nous avons affaire à des hommes enceints, à des femmes procréant avec leur sperme, ou encore à des femmes pères et des hommes mères pour celles et ceux qui ont eu des enfants avant leur transition. Ces nouvelles figures parentales semblent déranger ou du moins interroger les normes et les attendus qui sont les nôtres en matière d'engendrement et de filiation. L’expérience très médiatisée de Thomas Beatie, à l’instar de celle de Christine Jorgensen dans les années 1950, a été sans aucun doute un révélateur de ce nouveau trouble semé par la transidentité : celle-ci n’apparaît plus seulement comme un trouble dans le genre (pour reprendre un titre bien connu) mais aussi comme un trouble dans la filiation. Les réactions à l’expérience de cet homme enceint sont en ce sens symptomatiques donnant à voir des propos qu’on peut avoir envie de décrire, dans un premier mouvement, en termes de tolérance et d’intolérance. Mais si ce terme de tolérance peut être utile pour qualifier commodément les positions prises, il ne nous aide en rien à saisir véritablement ce qui se passe : qu’est-ce qui dérange et bouleverse ? Qu’est-ce que ces expériences, et le trouble qu’elles suscitent, nous permettent de saisir des conceptions contemporaines de l’engendrement ? Sont-elles d’ailleurs véritablement « hors normes » ?
