Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS is a private university in Malaysia that offer higher-level education to produce well-rounded graduate. Hence, in order to reach the objective as well as to ensure that all students get benefits from all the knowledge provided here, students are compulsory to attend at least 80 percent (80%) of the class if the students want to pass in every course offered. Nevertheless, since UTP was establish from 1997, manual attendance tracking was implemented until now and authors found that there are a lot of disadvantages of that. Therefore, the objective of study is to replace the manual system of tracking student’s attendance with fully automate student attendance system. Other than that, the other objective of project is to use the new technology as the main core in the system. The target technology for this project is Bluetooth technology and Android system. Some of the problems that have been discovered by author are students tend to cheat by sign on behalf of their absent friends and disruption of lecture session while distribution of attendance sheet from one to another. In order to solve the problem, author has come out with a proposed idea to create a fully automate system that able to track the attendance system just by using Bluetooth sensor connected to lecturer smartphone. Some scopes that need to cover by author to build the system are the interaction between student and lecturer. Other scope is system is developing for mobile apps and Bluetooth technology. Besides, Bluetooth technology also need for more enhancements to connect and send data from non-Android to Android devices. Moreover, the system must have the security and safety features that able to prevent student to commit any cheating

Attendance taking has become a huge problems for institutions to keep track and record the number and other necessary details of the attendees. Traditional ways of taking attendance has been widely used which is mostly based on paper. Paper-based attendance taking is a heartache for institutions as this system is unreliable and difficult to keep track. This system allows attendance fabrication and do not have a systematic way of keeping the record indefinitely. Over the years, lots of innovative ideas to improve attendance taking systems have been developed to counter this problem. However, each of them has its own limitations and weaknesses. As a result, studies have been carried out to develop a more systematic and reliable way to improve current attendance taking system. There are three objectives to be achieved; To implement well-organized attendance monitoring and tracking system by developing an Android mobile application that helps lecturers to monitor attendance in the cloud; To prevent fabrication of students’ attendance; To save time in taking attendances

Attendance management has been a great challenge over the years . Ranging from university to polytechnics, colleges of educations and secondary schools, quality attendance management has been a freak. Manual authentication of attendance of logbooks has become an arduous task and this is also time-consuming. The academic attendance policy has generated a lot of questions at various quarters. All academic institutions have certain criteria for students regarding their attendance in class and examinations. The importance of student attendance in class cannot be over emphasized, as a result of this, administrators and lecturers of various academic institutions are concerned with the attendance irregularities. In the process of admitting students into an examination hall, 70% of attendance must be met and also considered for grade computation, therefore there is a huge need for monitoring and recording students' attendance. This brings about the need to have a tool to control students' attendance. The existing model of manual attendance monitoring (using paper sheets and an old file system) is not efficient and it is also time consuming. These aforementioned shortcomings among others serve as justification for migrating from manual based to the proposed system. The system is based on barcode reader technology and the details of this system are presented in this paper. The system can be easily accessed by the lecturers and most importantly, the reports can be generated in real-time processing, thus, providing valuable information about the students

The convergence of the Internet of Things (IoT) technologies with the social networking concepts has led to a new paradigm called the Social Internet of Things (SIoT), where the objects mimic the human behavior and create their own relationships based on the rules set by their owner. This is aimed at simplifying the complexity in handling the communications between billions of objects to the benefits of the humans. Whereas several IoT platforms are already available, the SIoT paradigm has represented only a field for pure research and simulations, until now. The aim of this paper is to present our implementation of a SIoT platform. We begin by analyzing the major IoT implementations, pointing out their common characteristics that could be re-used for our goal. We then discuss the major extensions we had to introduce on the existing platforms to introduce the functionalities of the SIoT. We also present the major functionalities of the proposed system: how to register a new social object to the platform, how the system manages the creation of new relationships, and how the devices create groups of members with similar characteristics. We conclude with the description of possible simple application scenarios

    Get PDF
Many adolescents have poor diet and physical activity behaviors, which can lead to the development of noncommunicable diseases in later life. Digital platforms offer inexpensive means of delivering health interventions, but little is known about their effectiveness. This systematic review was conducted to synthesize evidence on the effectiveness of digital interventions to improve diet quality and increase physical activity in adolescents, to effective intervention components and to assess the cost-effectiveness of these interventions. Following a systematic search, abstracts were assessed against inclusion criteria, and data extraction and quality assessment were performed for included studies. Data were analyzed to identify key features that are associated with significant improvement in behavior. A total of 27 studies met inclusion criteria. Most (n = 15) were Web site interventions. Other delivery methods were text messages, games, multicomponent interventions, emails, and social media. Significant behavior change was often seen when interventions included education, goal setting, self-monitoring, and parental involvement. None of the publications reported cost-effectiveness. Due to heterogeneity of studies, meta-analysis was not feasible. It is possible to effect significant health behavior change in adolescents through digital interventions that incorporate education, goal setting, self-monitoring, and parental involvement. Most of the evidence relates to Web sites and further research into alternate media is needed, and longer term outcomes should be evaluated. There is a paucity of data on the cost-effectiveness of digital health interventions, and future trials should report these data
