    Technology for the Future: In-Space Technology Experiments Program, part 2

    The purpose of the Office of Aeronautics and Space Technology (OAST) In-Space Technology Experiments Program In-STEP 1988 Workshop was to identify and prioritize technologies that are critical for future national space programs and require validation in the space environment, and review current NASA (In-Reach) and industry/ university (Out-Reach) experiments. A prioritized list of the critical technology needs was developed for the following eight disciplines: structures; environmental effects; power systems and thermal management; fluid management and propulsion systems; automation and robotics; sensors and information systems; in-space systems; and humans in space. This is part two of two parts and contains the critical technology presentations for the eight theme elements and a summary listing of critical space technology needs for each theme

    Development of a multidimensional conceptual model for job shop smart manufacturing scheduling from the Industry 4.0 perspective

    [EN] Based on a scientific literature review in the conceptual domain defined by smart manufacturing scheduling (SMS), this article identifies the benefits and limitations of the reviewed contributions, establishes and discusses a set of criteria with which to collect and structure its main synergistic attributes, and devises a conceptual framework that models SMS around three axes: a semantic ontology context, a hierarchical agent structure, and the deep reinforcement learning (DRL) method. The main purpose of such a modelling research is to establish a conceptual and structured relationship framework to improve the efficiency of the job shop scheduling process using the approach defined by SMS. The presented model orients the job shop scheduling process towards greater flexibility, through enhanced rescheduling capability, and towards autonomous operation, mainly supported by the use of machine learning technology. To the best of our knowledge, there are no other similar conceptual models in the literature that synergistically combine the potential of the specific set of Industry 4.0 principles and technologies that model SMS.     Milestones in Autonomous Driving and Intelligent Vehicles Part \uppercase\expandafter{\romannumeral1}: Control, Computing System Design, Communication, HD Map, Testing, and Human Behaviors

    Interest in autonomous driving (AD) and intelligent vehicles (IVs) is growing at a rapid pace due to the convenience, safety, and economic benefits. Although a number of surveys have reviewed research achievements in this field, they are still limited in specific tasks and lack systematic summaries and research directions in the future. Our work is divided into 3 independent articles and the first part is a Survey of Surveys (SoS) for total technologies of AD and IVs that involves the history, summarizes the milestones, and provides the perspectives, ethics, and future research directions. This is the second part (Part \uppercase\expandafter{\romannumeral1} for this technical survey) to review the development of control, computing system design, communication, High Definition map (HD map), testing, and human behaviors in IVs. In addition, the third part (Part \uppercase\expandafter{\romannumeral2} for this technical survey) is to review the perception and planning sections. The objective of this paper is to involve all the sections of AD, summarize the latest technical milestones, and guide abecedarians to quickly understand the development of AD and IVs. Combining the SoS and Part \uppercase\expandafter{\romannumeral2}, we anticipate that this work will bring novel and diverse insights to researchers and abecedarians, and serve as a bridge between past and future.Comment: 18 pages, 4 figures, 3 table

    A Concept of Operations for an Integrated Vehicle Health Assurance System

    This document describes a Concept of Operations (ConOps) for an Integrated Vehicle Health Assurance System (IVHAS). This ConOps is associated with the Maintain Vehicle Safety (MVS) between Major Inspections Technical Challenge in the Vehicle Systems Safety Technologies (VSST) Project within NASA s Aviation Safety Program. In particular, this document seeks to describe an integrated system concept for vehicle health assurance that integrates ground-based inspection and repair information with in-flight measurement data for airframe, propulsion, and avionics subsystems. The MVS Technical Challenge intends to maintain vehicle safety between major inspections by developing and demonstrating new integrated health management and failure prevention technologies to assure the integrity of vehicle systems between major inspection intervals and maintain vehicle state awareness during flight. The approach provided by this ConOps is intended to help optimize technology selection and development, as well as allow the initial integration and demonstration of these subsystem technologies over the 5 year span of the VSST program, and serve as a guideline for developing IVHAS technologies under the Aviation Safety Program within the next 5 to 15 years. A long-term vision of IVHAS is provided to describe a basic roadmap for more intelligent and autonomous vehicle systems

The resilience, efficiency, and effectiveness of supply networks are crucial for the viability of acquisition. Disruptions in the supply chain require adequate communication infrastructure to ensure resilience. However, supply networks do not have a shared information technology infrastructure that ensures effective communication. Therefore decision-makers seek new methodologies for supply chain management resilience. Blockchain technology offers new decentralization and service delegation methods that can transform supply chains and result in a more flexible, efficient, and effective supply chain. This report presents a framework for the application of Blockchain technology in supply chain management to improve resilience. In the first part of this study, we discuss the limitations and challenges of the supply chain system that can be addressed by integrating Blockchain technology. In the second part, the report provides a comprehensive Blockchain-based supply chain network management framework. The application of the proposed framework is demonstrated using modeling and simulation.
