A Collision Deformer for Autodesk Maya

Believable physical interactions involving collisions between objects are essential in motion graphics and video games. The most common approach to create such effect is to employ dynamics simulation. However, to create a simple collision effect, dynamics simulation is time-consuming and lacks artistic control. This paper presents a custom deformer for creating simple collision effects in Autodesk Maya. The deformer determines intersection between objects by performing inclusion tests for selected vertices, and approximates the elastic behavior of the soft body in response to collisions by applying a controllable deforming algorithm to the object surface. No physics simulation is required in this process. The deformer supports interacting with multiple collider objects and at the same time provides artistic control for the user to manage the deformation. The deformer has proven successful for creating plausible deformation of simple collision interactions in a fast, controllable manner

Epidemiology of sports-related injuries in children and youth presenting to Canadian emergency departments from 2007/08 to 2009/10

Although injuries related to sports and recreation represent a significant burden to children and youth, there is a paucity of information about descriptive epidemiology of sports related injury since 2005. The objective of this study was to provide the descriptive epidemiology of sports-related injuries treated in emergency departments for children and youth aged 5 - 19. Children and youth (5 - 19 years) in CHIRPP (2007 -2010) were included. Descriptive statistics, including frequency by sport, age and sex, and the percent of concussions within each sport were calculated. Out of a total of 56, 691 reported sports-related injuries, soccer accounted for 11,941 injuries. The 10 - 14 age group reported the greatest number of injuries. Males reported a greater number of minor injuries. The largest percentage of concussions (16.7%) was reported in ringette. Injury prevention programs in Canada should focus on improving evidence-based programs to reduce the burden of injuries in all sports

In North Wind, a play deeply rooted in magical realism, a trio of characters search for freedom from the past in a snow-bound Midwestern bar. The dramatic question of North Wind is: How do you move forward when everything you see reminds you of what you’ve lost? I Lived To Tell, a non-linear play, takes place in the character\u27s imagination. The play\u27s dramatic question is: How does a person maintain their identity in the wake of a cancer diagnosis? An Afterward looks at the playwright\u27s journey of becoming a playwright and the creative process of both plays
