Copyright @ 2010 Elsevier B.V.Conventional supermarket refrigeration systems are responsible for considerable CO2 emissions due to high energy consumption and large quantities of refrigerant leakage. In the effort to conserve energy and reduce environmental impacts, an efficient design tool for the analysis, evaluation and comparison of the performance of alternative system designs and controls is required. This paper provides a description of the modelling procedure employed in the supermarket simulation model ‘SuperSim’ for the simulation of the performance of centralised vapour compression refrigeration systems and their interaction with the building envelope and HVAC systems. The model which has been validated against data from a supermarket has been used for the comparison of R404A and CO2 refrigeration systems and the optimisation of the performance of transcritical CO2 systems. These results are presented in Part II of the paper.DEFR

Performance Analysis of a Reciprocating Compressor under Typical Transients of Refrigeration Systems

The performance of reciprocating compressors is usually evaluated under steady-state operating conditions defined in standards. However, the compressor is submitted to quite different conditions in actual refrigeration systems, such as transients associated with the on/off cycling operation. This paper presents a simulation model developed to evaluate the performance of reciprocating compressors during typical transients of refrigeration systems. The model is formed by the coupling of two sub models, one for the compression chamber and the other to calculate the temperatures and mass flow rates in components other than the compression chamber. As the model only simulates the compressor, experimental data was required to provide input from the remaining components of the system. The model was validated by comparing predictions and experimental data of discharged mass flow rate and power consumption of a compressor operating under two transient system conditions. Then, the simulation model was employed to predict the variation of the compressor efficiencies and temperatures during the typical transients analyzed

A Literature Review of Numerical Modeling Techniques for Vapor Compression Systems with Focus on Heat Exchanger Modeling

    Get PDF
Vapor compression systems are the most widely used system type in heating, ventilation, air-conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC&R) applications. Experimental and numerical modeling techniques are used to analyze the performance of the vapor compression systems. With the introduction of high-performance computers, numerical modeling techniques are used extensively to develop cost-effective and efficient HVAC&R equipment. Experimental iterations on the design of vapor compression systems are costly; however, numerical techniques can reduce the number of experimental iterations, substantially decreasing the development cost and time. Because of the benefits associated with the numerical simulation, many researchers working in the HVAC&R field have attempted to develop efficient, robust, and accurate simulation models. This paper provides an in-depth review of heat exchanger modeling techniques as well as integration strategies to develop holistic system models

Energy and thermodynamical study of a small innovative compressed air energy storage system (micro-CAES)

    Get PDF
There is a growing interest in the electrical energy storage system, due to the high penetration of the energy produced by renewable sources, the possibility of leveling the absorption peak of the electric network (peak shaving) and the advantage of separating the production phase from the exertion phase (time shift). Compressed air energy storage systems (CAES) are one of the most promising technologies of this field, because they are characterized by a high reliability, low environmental impact and a remarkable energy density. The main disadvantage of big systems is that they depend on geological formations which are necessary to the storage. The micro-CAES system, with a rigid storage vessel, guarantees a high portability of the system and a higher adaptability even with distributed or stand-alone energy productions. This article carries out a thermodynamical and energy analysis of the micro-CAES system, a result of the mathematical model created in a Matlab/Simulink® environment. New ideas will be discussed, as the one concerning the quasi-isothermal compression/expansion, through the exertion of a biphasic mixture, that will increase the total system efficiency and enable a combined production of electric, thermal and refrigeration energies. This is something promising for the development of an experimental devic

This work performs the study and development of a numerical computational model in order to simulate refrigeration systems by steam compression. At first, the main types of modelation for each component of the refrigeration system (compressor, condenser, expansion valve and evaporator) found in literature are analysed and discussed. After this first analysis, the models for the development of a computational program are chosen. The program is validated by means of the comparison of the results obtained numerically with those acquired in experimental tests. Just after validation, two studies of cases are made to verify the influence of the parameters on the simulated systems and to optimize the performance of those systemsMestradoTermica e FluidosMestre em Engenharia Mecânic

Mengurus masyarakat Singapura gaya Lee Kuan Yew: satu legasi

    Get PDF
