Overview of Remaining Useful Life prediction techniques in Through-life Engineering Services
Through-life Engineering Services (TES) are essential in the manufacture and servicing of complex engineering products. TES improves support services by providing prognosis of run-to-failure and time-to-failure on-demand data for better decision making. The concept of Remaining Useful Life (RUL) is utilised to predict life-span of components (of a service system) with the purpose of minimising catastrophic failure events in both manufacturing and service sectors. The purpose of this paper is to identify failure mechanisms and emphasise the failure events prediction approaches that can effectively reduce uncertainties. It will demonstrate the classification of techniques used in RUL prediction for optimisation of productsâ future use based on current products in-service with regards to predictability, availability and reliability. It presents a mapping of degradation mechanisms against techniques for knowledge acquisition with the objective of presenting to designers and manufacturers ways to improve the life-span of components
NeoWestern business-government relations: the case of Poland
This article investigates the applicability of Western models of business-government relations to the postcommunist context. Given the absence of a business-government relationship over the forty years of communism, it seems perfectly plausible that postcommunist countries should produce a historically unprecedented form of business-government relations and a new type of
capitalist democracy. On the other hand, these countries have for several years been unequivocally regarded as capitalist democracies so it also seems possible that a literature developed for Western capitalist democracies should be useful in the postcommunist context. This article argues that, in spite of their assertions to the contrary, postcommunist studies propose no new concepts or variables for the study of business-government relations. Moreover, a detailed case study of Poland demonstrates the applicability of Western models to a postcommunist context. The confrontation between Western models and postcommunist data does not "stretch" the models but, in some important respects, actually clarifies them
A Dynamic Multimedia User-Weight Classification Scheme for IEEE_802.11 WLANs
In this paper we expose a dynamic traffic-classification scheme to support
multimedia applications such as voice and broadband video transmissions over
IEEE 802.11 Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs). Obviously, over a Wi-Fi link
and to better serve these applications - which normally have strict bounded
transmission delay or minimum link rate requirement - a service differentiation
technique can be applied to the media traffic transmitted by the same mobile
node using the well-known 802.11e Enhanced Distributed Channel Access (EDCA)
protocol. However, the given EDCA mode does not offer user differentiation,
which can be viewed as a deficiency in multi-access wireless networks.
Accordingly, we propose a new inter-node priority access scheme for IEEE
802.11e networks which is compatible with the EDCA scheme. The proposed scheme
joins a dynamic user-weight to each mobile station depending on its outgoing
data, and therefore deploys inter-node priority for the channel access to
complement the existing EDCA inter-frame priority. This provides efficient
quality of service control across multiple users within the same coverage area
of an access point. We provide performance evaluations to compare the proposed
access model with the basic EDCA 802.11 MAC protocol mode to elucidate the

The Performance of a Second Generation Service Discovery Protocol In Response to Message Loss
We analyze the behavior of FRODO, a second generation service discovery protocol, in response to message loss in the network. Earlier protocols, like UPnP and Jini rely on underlying network layers to enhance their failure recovery. A comparison with UPnP and Jini shows that FRODO performs more efficiently in maintaining consistency, with shorter latency, not relying on lower network layers for robustness and therefore functions correctly on a simple lightweight protocol stack

Decision support for build-to-order supply chain management through multiobjective optimization
This paper aims to identify the gaps in decision-making support based on
multiobjective optimization for build-to-order supply chain management (BTOSCM).
To this end, it reviews the literature available on modelling build-to-order
supply chains (BTO-SC) with the focus on adopting multiobjective optimization
(MOO) techniques as a decision support tool. The literature has been classified based
on the nature of the decisions in different part of the supply chain, and the key
decision areas across a typical BTO-SC are discussed in detail. Available software
packages suitable for supporting decision making in BTO supply chains are also
identified and their related solutions are outlined. The gap between the modelling and
optimization techniques developed in the literature and the decision support needed in
practice are highlighted and future research directions to better exploit the decision
support capabilities of MOO are proposed
