Determination of pressure coefficient for a high-rise building with atypical ground plan

    Get PDF
In this article, the results of pressure coefficient on the atypical object obtained by experimental measurements in a boundary layer wind tunnel (BLWT) of Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava (STU) and computational fluid dynamics simulation (CFD) are presented. The pressure coefficient is one of the most important parameters expressing the wind pressure distribution on the structure. The loading by wind can only be acquired by execution of detailed tests and numerical analyses [1].Web of Science14214513

Experience with the use of warm mix asphalt additives in bitumen binders

    Get PDF
In most European countries, Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) technology is still being used as the standard for the production and processing of bituminous mixtures. However, from the perspective of environmental acceptability, global warming and greenhouse gas production, Slovakia is making an effort to put into practice modern technology, which is characterized by lower energy consumption and reducing negative impacts on the environment. Warm mix asphalt technologies (WMA), which have been verified at the Department of Transportation Engineering laboratory, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Slovak University of Technology (FCE, SUT) can provide the required mixture properties and can be used not only for the construction of new roads, but also for their renovation and reconstruction. The paper was created in cooperation with the Technical University of Ostrava, Czech Republic, which also deals with the addition of additives to asphalt mixtures and binders. It describes a comparison of the impact of some organic and chemical additives on the properties of commonly used bitumen binders in accordance with valid standards and technical regulations.Web of Science261393

Use of adhesion promoters in asphalt mixtures

    Get PDF
The purpose of asphalt binder as a significant binder in road constructions is to permanently bind aggregates of different compositions and grain sizes. The asphalt binder itself does not have suitable adhesiveness, so after a period of time, bare grains can appear. This results in a gradual separation of the grains from an asphalt layer and the presence of potholes in a pavement. Adhesion promoters or adhesive agents are important and proven promoters in practice. They are substances mainly based on the fatty acids of polyamides which should increase the reliability of the asphalt's binder adhesion to the aggregates, thus increasing the lifetime period of the asphalt mixture as well as its resistance to mechanical strain. The amount of a promoter or agent added to the asphalt mixture is negligible and constitutes about 0.3% of the asphalt's binder weight. Nevertheless, even this quantity significantly increases the adhesive qualities of an asphalt binder. The article was created in cooperatation with the Slovak University of Technology, in Bratislava, Slovakia, and focuses on proving the new AD2 adhesive additive and comparing it with the Addibit and Wetfix BE promoters used on aggregates from the Skutec - Liticka and Bystrec quarries.Web of Science261241

Positioner and the procedure for measuring spatial characteristics

    Get PDF
The present work focuses on the solution of management of measuring spatial characteristics of security detectors using a positioner, a precision manipulator. It deals with program management software in LabView. Graphical programming with subroutines, which are described as virtual instruments, is used. There are published results of measurements of the spatial characteristics of the PIR detector, where it is preferably used as the measuring station.Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport of the Czech Republic [LO1303 (MSMT-7778/2014)]; European Regional Development Fund under the project CEBIA-Tech [CZ.1.05/2.1.00/03.0089]; Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava; Grant agency APVV [APVV-15-0164]; agency KEGA [KEGA 039STU-4/2017

Analysis of Minimal LDPC Decoder System on a Chip Implementation

    Get PDF
This paper presents a practical method of potential replacement of several different Quasi-Cyclic Low-Density Parity-Check (QC-LDPC) codes with one, with the intention of saving as much memory as required to implement the LDPC encoder and decoder in a memory-constrained System on a Chip (SoC). The presented method requires only a very small modification of the existing encoder and decoder, making it suitable for utilization in a Software Defined Radio (SDR) platform. Besides the analysis of the effects of necessary variable-node value fixation during the Belief Propagation (BP) decoding algorithm, practical standard-defined code parameters are scrutinized in order to evaluate the feasibility of the proposed LDPC setup simplification. Finally, the error performance of the modified system structure is evaluated and compared with the original system structure by means of simulation

A Compact Tri-band Printed Antenna for MIMO Applications

    Get PDF
In this paper, a compact tri-band printed multi-input multi-output (MIMO) antenna with high isolation is presented to operate within WLAN and WiMAX frequency bands. By adopting a rectangular open-ended slot combined with a rectangular strip with an inverted L-shaped open-ended slot, three operating frequency bands can be obtained. The proposed compact MIMO antenna occupies an overall size of 19×33 mm2. Good port-to-port isolation is obtained. The simulated and measured results show that the presented antenna is suitable for multiband MIMO applications

Paper briefly describes design of experiments aimed at verification of selected technological parameters of the plasma cutting machine. Design solution of the plasma cutting machine represents a complex kinematic structure with 9 DOF. Reaching the prescribed repeated accuracy of the positioning is one of the main parameters that is required from the machine. Full experiment design covers more than thousands experiments. Therefore reduced experiment design was prepared tehat requires only 32 experiments. We consider only one execution of each experiment. When thae data variability should be observed, five repeating of each experiment is required, resulting in respective increase of the number of experiments
