A twoâstep authentication framework for Mobile ad hoc networks
The lack of fixed infrastructure in ad hoc networks causes nodes to rely more heavily on peer nodes for communication. Nevertheless, establishing trust in such a distributed environment is very difficult, since it is not straightforward for a node to determine if its peer nodes can be trusted. An additional concern in such an environment is with whether a peer node is merely relaying a message or if it is the originator of the message. In this paper, we propose an authentication approach for protecting nodes in mobile ad hoc networks. The security requirements for protecting data link and network layers are identified and the design criteria for creating secure ad hoc networks using several authentication protocols are analyzed. Protocols based on zero knowledge and challenge response techniques are presented and their performance is evaluated through analysis and simulation
Comparative analysis of carrying capacity indices for the central Aegean Islands
The tourist industry is one of the most important economic activities in Greece. The country receives over 14 million visitors per year. In an era where tourism is one of the fastest growing sectors of the developing countries the competition with existing tourism destinations, such as Greece, will intensify. Greece has enjoyed increasing numbers and revenues from tourism due to the unique environment both natural and man-made making it a high profile tourist destination. However, it is already clear, that the uncontrolled growth of the industry can bring serious environmental and social problems, leading to a decline in the quality of tourist product and services provided. Such negative effects can be controlled and reduced using environmental and tourism indices to estimate the impact of tourism and other businesses on the environment. The purpose of this paper is to apply the principles of coastal environmental management for the Islands in the central Aegean Sea islands via the carrying capacity assessment methodology in order to develop environmental performance indicators necessary for formulating a novel sustainable development policy proposal for Greek tourism.peer-reviewe

SAMOS - A framework for model analytics and management
The increased popularity and adoption of model-* engineering paradigms, such as model-driven and model-based engineering, leads to an increase in the number of models, metamodels, model transformations and other related artifacts. This calls for automated techniques to analyze large collections of those artifacts to manage model-* ecosystems. SAMOS is a framework to address this challenge: it treats model-* artifacts as data, and applies various techniquesâranging from information retrieval to machine learningâto analyze those artifacts in a holistic, scalable and efficient way. Such analyses can help to understand and manage those ecosystems
Microgrid - The microthreaded many-core architecture
Traditional processors use the von Neumann execution model, some other
processors in the past have used the dataflow execution model. A combination of
von Neuman model and dataflow model is also tried in the past and the resultant
model is referred as hybrid dataflow execution model. We describe a hybrid
dataflow model known as the microthreading. It provides constructs for
creation, synchronization and communication between threads in an intermediate
language. The microthreading model is an abstract programming and machine model
for many-core architecture. A particular instance of this model is named as the
microthreaded architecture or the Microgrid. This architecture implements all
the concurrency constructs of the microthreading model in the hardware with the
