An Analytical Solution for Probabilistic Guarantees of Reservation Based Soft Real-Time Systems
We show a methodology for the computation of the probability of deadline miss
for a periodic real-time task scheduled by a resource reservation algorithm. We
propose a modelling technique for the system that reduces the computation of
such a probability to that of the steady state probability of an infinite state
Discrete Time Markov Chain with a periodic structure. This structure is
exploited to develop an efficient numeric solution where different
accuracy/computation time trade-offs can be obtained by operating on the
granularity of the model. More importantly we offer a closed form conservative
bound for the probability of a deadline miss. Our experiments reveal that the
bound remains reasonably close to the experimental probability in one real-time
application of practical interest. When this bound is used for the optimisation
of the overall Quality of Service for a set of tasks sharing the CPU, it

Scheduling Techniques for Operating Systems for Medical and IoT Devices: A Review
Software and Hardware synthesis are the major subtasks in the implementation of hardware/software systems. Increasing trend is to build SoCs/NoC/Embedded System for Implantable Medical Devices (IMD) and Internet of Things (IoT) devices, which includes multiple Microprocessors and Signal Processors, allowing designing complex hardware and software systems, yet flexible with respect to the delivered performance and executed application. An important technique, which affect the macroscopic system implementation characteristics is the scheduling of hardware operations, program instructions and software processes. This paper presents a survey of the various scheduling strategies in process scheduling. Process Scheduling has to take into account the real-time constraints. Processes are characterized by their timing constraints, periodicity, precedence and data dependency, pre-emptivity, priority etc. The affect of these characteristics on scheduling decisions has been described in this paper
Rate Monotonic vs. EDF: Judgment Day
Since the first results published in 1973 by Liu and Layland on the Rate Monotonic (RM) and Earliest Deadline First (EDF) algorithms, a lot of progress has been made in the schedulability analysis of periodic task sets. Unfortunately, many misconceptions still exist about the properties of these two scheduling methods, which
usually tend to favor RMmore than EDF. Typical wrong statements often heard in technical conferences and even in research papers claim that RM is easier to analyze than EDF, it introduces less runtime overhead, it is more predictable in overload conditions, and causes less jitter in task execution.
Since the above statements are either wrong, or not precise, it is time to clarify these issues in a systematic fashion, because the use of EDF allows a better exploitation of the available resources and significantly improves system’s performance.

PERTS: A Prototyping Environment for Real-Time Systems
PERTS is a prototyping environment for real-time systems. It is being built incrementally and will contain basic building blocks of operating systems for time-critical applications, tools, and performance models for the analysis, evaluation and measurement of real-time systems and a simulation/emulation environment. It is designed to support the use and evaluation of new design approaches, experimentations with alternative system building blocks, and the analysis and performance profiling of prototype real-time systems

Real-time hierarchical hypervisor
textBoth real-time virtualization and recursive virtualization are desirable properties of a virtual machine monitor (or hypervisor). Although the prospect for virtualization and even recursive virtualization has become better as the PC hardware becomes faster, the real-time systems community so far has not been able to reap much benefits. This is because no existing virtualization mechanism can properly support the stringent timing requirements needed by real-time systems. It is hard to do real-time virtualization, and it is even harder to do it recursively. In this dissertation, we propose a framework whereby the hypervisor is capable of running real-time guests and participating in recursive virtualization. Such a hypervisor is called a real-time hierarchical hypervisor.
We first look at virtualization of abstract resource types from the real-time systems perspective. Unlike the previous work on recursive real-time partitioning that assumes fully-preemptable resources, we concentrate on other and often more practical types of scheduling constraints, especially the non-preemptive and limited-preemptive ones. Then we consider the current x86 architecture and explore the problems that need to be addressed for real-time recursive virtualization. We drill down on the problem that affects timing properties the most, namely, the recursive forwarding and delivery of interrupts, exceptions and intercepts. We choose the x86 architecture because it is popular and readily available, but it is by no means the only architecture of choice for real-time recursive virtualization. We conclude the research with an architecture-independent discussion on future possibilities in real-time recursive virtualization.Computer Science
Fuzzy Networked Control Systems Design Considering Scheduling Restrictions
Nowadays network control systems present a common approximation when connectivity is the issue to be solved based on time delays coupling from external factors. However, this approach tends to be complex in terms of time delays. Therefore, it is necessary to study the behavior of the delays as well as the integration into differential equations of these bounded delays. The related time delays needs to be

The objective of this paper is to show a way to tackle multiple time delays that are bounded and the dynamic response from real-time scheduling approximation. The related control law is designed considering fuzzy logic approximation for nonlinear time delays coupling, where the main advantage is the integration of this behavior through extended state space representation keeping certain linear and bounded behavior and leading to a stable situation during events presentation by guaranteeing stability through Lyapunov
