    The Conception and Realization of a Mobile Windows Phone Location-based Augmented Reality Application

    It is considered very evolved having Augmented Reality (AR) to be used in an application. This raises the need to have good AR frameworks and AR engines to facilitate the development. Most of the available engines and frameworks are either hard to understand, due to poor documentation or do not provide a sufficient insight, or are proprietary, which force the developer to pay for it. This thesis introduces a location-based AR engine from scratch, which is in its dynamic structure easy to understand and to integrate it in any custom application. The usage of user controls and the possibility to extend the available classes provide a good basis to individualize the engine. This engine is based on the original AREA for iOS[1] and uses advanced calculations to enhance performance. This engine is made for Windows Phone 8.1 using C# with XAML(Extensible Application Markup Language) to create the UI

    Micro-electro-mechanical system (MEMS) technology offers sensors with lower cost, smaller size, lower power consumption. In this paper, a kind of low cost motion-sensing system based MEMS sensors is developed. The objective of the design is low cost, small volume and light weight in order to be used in many fields. The constituting principle of the system is described. Algorithms and hardware of the system are researched. And the definition of coordinate, calculation of pose angle, transform of acceleration and calculation of the velocities and displacement of the moving object are presented with corresponding mathematics model and algorithms. The experiments are carried out in principle and results are given. It is proved that the low cost motion-sensing system is effective and correct.<br /

    Positioning and Sensing System Based on Impulse Radio Ultra-Wideband Technology

    Impulse Radio Ultra-Wideband (IR-UWB) is a wireless carrier communication technology using nanosecond non-sinusoidal narrow pulses to transmit data. Therefore, the IR-UWB signal has a high resolution in the time domain and is suitable for high-precision positioning or sensing systems in IIoT scenarios. This thesis designs and implements a high-precision positioning system and a contactless sensing system based on the high temporal resolution characteristics of IR-UWB technology. The feasibility of the two applications in the IIoT is evaluated, which provides a reference for human-machine-thing positioning and human-machine interaction sensing technology in large smart factories. By analyzing the commonly used positioning algorithms in IR-UWB systems, this thesis designs an IRUWB relative positioning system based on the time of flight algorithm. The system uses the IR-UWB transceiver modules to obtain the distance data and calculates the relative position between the two individuals through the proposed relative positioning algorithm. An improved algorithm is proposed to simplify the system hardware, reducing the three serial port modules used in the positioning system to one. Based on the time of flight algorithm, this thesis also implements a contactless gesture sensing system with IR-UWB. The IR-UWB signal is sparsified by downsampling, and then the feature information of the signal is obtained by level-crossing sampling. Finally, a spiking neural network is used as the recognition algorithm to classify hand gestures

    Machine vision applications in UAVs for autonomous aerial refueling and runway detection

    This research focuses on the application of Machine Vision (MV) techniques and algorithms to the problems of Autonomous Aerial Refueling (AAR) and Runway Detection. In particular, real laboratory based hardware was used in a simulated environment to emulate real-life conditions for AAR. It was shown that the K-Means Clustering Algorithm solution to the Marker Detection problem could be executed at a frame rate of 30 Hz and it averaged a tracking error of less than one pixel while utilizing only 0.16% of the image. It was also shown that the solution to the Runway Detection problem could be executed at a frame rate of 20 Hz which is acceptable for use in an UAV performing reconnaissance work. Data from these tests suggest that both software schemes are suitable for applications in moving vehicles and that the accuracy of the measurements produced by the schemes make them suitable for UAV applications
