Vision Research Agenda to 2025

The TP Organics Vision Research Agenda was prepared between June 2007 and July 2008 on the basis of wide-ranging discussions with farmers’ organizations, scientists, organic traders and retailers, and EU-wide umbrella organizations representing a variety of commercial, non-commercial and civil interests. Up to now, research projects and national framework programmes on organic agriculture have addressed immediate technology gaps in organic agriculture and food production. This Vision has been politically expedient and has given rise to a greater number of producers and professional skills for the task of serving unexpectedly fast growing consumer driven markets. Thus, many organic research projects had a short term perspective only. In contrast to this, our vision takes a long-term perspective on the research needs of organic agriculture and food systems. The three strategic research priorities presented in the vision focus in particular on the inconsistencies between economy, ecology and social cohesion in agriculture and food production and propose research activities and insightful learning concepts for organic and other farming systems

Developing the egovernment research agenda

This paper presents an exploratory research project to determine the needs for future eGovernment research. The project aimed particularly at getting relevant stakeholder views as a contrast to the received academic wisdom or political rhetoric. This paper outlines the need for such fieldwork and discusses the methodology adopted to elicit the stakeholders’ views without influencing the debate. The VIEGO workshops have shown that an eGovernment research agenda will require a multi-disciplinary approach involving a combination of social, technological and organisational issues. The LSST Data Mining Research Agenda

We describe features of the LSST science database that are amenable to scientific data mining, object classification, outlier identification, anomaly detection, image quality assurance, and survey science validation. The data mining research agenda includes: scalability (at petabytes scales) of existing machine learning and data mining algorithms; development of grid-enabled parallel data mining algorithms; designing a robust system for brokering classifications from the LSST event pipeline (which may produce 10,000 or more event alerts per night); multi-resolution methods for exploration of petascale databases; indexing of multi-attribute multi-dimensional astronomical databases (beyond spatial indexing) for rapid querying of petabyte databases; and more.Comment: 5 pages, Presented at the "Classification and Discovery in Large Astronomical Surveys" meeting, Ringberg Castle, 14-17 October, 200

A Research Agenda for Uncooperative Federalists

Increasing demand on more effective cell culture reactors has driven optimization works to increase output of products. This has led to development of soft sensors that uses mathematical formulas to increase the available information for the parameters during runs. In the project two parameters was evaluated for use in such a soft sensor, viability by measuring on-line capacitance with Aber probe and L-lactate production using BioSenz apparatus. To determine how well these could be used both were used on batch reactors measuring on a mouse-mouse B cell hybridoma culture which produced IgG1. On-line measurements were performed by probes which measured directly on the cell suspension or withdrew sterile sample from the reactor. Measuring viability gave results with low error, which can be concluded to the variation in reference cell count, but it could not be determined if measuring L-lactate production with BioSenz works in reactors of this size. More work needs to be done on other types of reactors, like fed-batch or perfusion, or lower working volumes.

A Research Agenda for Ending Homelessness

This Research Agenda was developed in order to better inform government agencies, philanthropic organizations, and other funders about research questions that will help move policy and practice forward. The agenda aims to prioritize key questions by guiding funders and their research collaborators during the identification, conceptualization, and development of new research. The agenda does not represent an exhaustive list of unanswered questions. Instead, it focuses on priority research questions immediately relevant to policy and program development
