The purpose of this conceptual replication study is to validate the cognitive absorption construct and the model proposed by Agarwal and Karahanna (2000) in the context of 3-D immersive virtual worlds. For this the original scale items were adapted to the new context, and the model was tested with the data collected from 307 customers of a large technology firm who voluntarily participated in a knowledge sharing activity in Second Life, a 3D virtual world platform. Overall, the replication results support the original model in the new setting – customers of a service firm involved in real life knowledge sharing activity in Second Life. Similar to the original study, this study finds that cognitive absorption positively influences perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness. In addition, unlike the original study, this replication study also finds support for positive relationship between perceived ease of use and perceived usefulness

The Meaning in Life Questionnaire: A Random Effects Reliability Generalization

    Get PDF
The Meaning in Life Questionnaire (MLQ) is a 10-item self-report measure that assesses perceived meaning in life and search for meaning in life (Steger, Frazier, Oishi, & Kaler, 2006). A reliability generalization was conducted on the Presence and Search subscales of the MLQ to estimate the average reliability, examine the variability among the reliability estimates, and search for moderators. Articles that meet selection criteria were obtained from PsycINFO. Mixed effects analysis was conducted on 152 reliability estimates for the Presence subscale, and 89 reliability estimates for the Search subscale. Both Presence and Search subscales showed high mean reliability estimates (above .85) and significant heterogeneity in estimates across studies. Language in which scale was administered explained a significant proportion of the variation in the Presence and Search subscales. Region was a significant moderator of reliability of the Search subscale only; regions outside of North America and Europe reported significantly lower reliability. Results indicate that even though the MLQ is highly reliable across samples, reliability varies significantly as a function of language and region. The results have implications of the conceptualization of meaning in life across diverse cultures

Currently, online and offline channel integration as a successful business model is used in many industries, this paper aims at providing an insight into the factors affecting online channel (online shop) and offline channels (entity shop) in the agricultural product industry. Drawn from the extant literature, a consumer online and offline behavior model including trust, system quality, information quality , environment quality and service quality, online and offline satisfaction ,customer loyalty were provides. Data were obtained from 228 customers in china during 2014. Based on the data obtained, SPSS19.0 software is used to analyze reliability test and validity, descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and AMOS17.0 were employed to calculate the path coefficient, and tests the proposed model. Data analysis shows that: The model describes the relationship among the online satisfaction, offline satisfaction and customer loyalty, and establishes a multi-relationship model that includes trust, system quality, information quality, environment quality and service quality. The factors impacting online satisfaction include trust, system quality and information quality; the factors impacting offline satisfaction include environment satisfaction and service quality. Meanwhile, we highlight the role of trust in online satisfaction, and prove that both online satisfaction and offline satisfaction have interaction on customer loyalty. Keywords

Technology Acceptance Model Limitations and Criticisms: Exploring the Practical Applications and Use in Technology-related Studies, Mixed-method, and Qualitative Researches

Many researchers have been citing the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) because of the simplicity of the model without considering actual applications in their studies. This paper presented some of the criticisms and limitations of Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), taking into consideration, the use of the model technology-related studies across various disciplines particularly in social sciences, educations and management researches. The TAM limitations, critiques and criticism were presented based on the literature review, the model suitability and practical application of the model within enterprises and institutional context. The paper used a desktop research approach. The paper objective addressed the limitation and of the TAM model, and presented a modified model for LIS and social sciences research general applications. However, this paper argues that the TAM model was more appropriate for individual use and acceptance of technology rather than in a corporate or institutional application that requires integration of information technology. The paper uses literature as secondary data and insights gathered from attempts to utilize the model for doctoral studies to presents its limitations and impracticality in an institutional environment. However, based on the findings from the field research, a Technology Acceptance and Use Model was proposed which takes into account, the identified limitations and criticism of TAM, companies’ rules and regulations regarding how technology is used for different business processes. The core argument is that staff IT proficiency and experiences promote the ease of use of technology, while technology acceptance and intention is moderated by the company’s rules, policy, and IT guidelines

Virtual Learning Environment System (VLE) is one the current trending technology in education globally. The Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) system has enable to bridge teacher-student-parent communication through its various advantageous functionalities. In Malaysia, the Ministry of Education has joined the global leap of adapting the Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) technology via the introduction of Frog Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) system in 2012. This initiative under the project, 1BestariNet was coupled with high speed broadband access that bridges the digital divide of all schools in the Nation. However, the utilization of the Frog Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) system has seen a low uptake by its stakeholders. Hence, this study aims to investigate the determinants of Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) system adoption attitude among teachers, specifically secondary school teachers in Kuala Lumpur. This study administered the survey methodology for data collection from 89 secondary schools located in three zones in Kuala Lumpur namely zone Bangsar/Pudu, zone Sentul and zone whereby 366 secondary school teachers were chosen as the sample for this study. A disproportionate stratified sampling procedure was used to select respondents from the respective schools within the zone. Five hypotheses were proposed in regards to the determinants of Frog Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) system adoption attitude. A structured questionnaires consisting 35 questions were adopted from previous scholars for this study in order to measure five variables namely Frog Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) System adoption attitude, perceived usefulness, and perceived ease of use, organizational culture and self-efficacy. As of from the 800 questionnaires handed out, only 336 were usable after the outlier assessment thus yielding a response rate of 42.0%. The research was analyzed using descriptive as well as inferential statistics in order to measure the relationship of the variables and draw the inferences between the independent variables and the dependent variable. The research result indicated that there are relationships which exist between the determinants and Frog Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) System adoption attitude. In concluding the research, the academic and managerial implications as well as suggestion for future research was discusse

This study aimed to analyze the factors that may affect students' perceptions about the intention to use mobile bankingapplications to support their daily activities. The research model was developed using a Technology Acceptance Modeldeveloped by Davis (1989), and by including three external variables that experience, complexity, and gander. The researchmodel empirically tested using data from a survey of students at the University of Jember. The sampling method in this studyusing a clustered random sampling. The questionnaire of 120 students who receive offers mobile banking service that qualifiesas a sample analyzed using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) using AMOS 22.0. The results showed that all constructs inthe original TAM model was statistically significant. On the other hand, gender as external variables in this study had no effecton perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use. The implications of this study are relevant for students who are interested inusing mobile banking in order to better take into account the experience and ease of use. Mobile banking users is expected tobe more confident with using mobile banking can simplify their banking activity
