Publish and Perish: Alfred James Lotka und die Anspannung in der Wissenschaft

In spite of having published more than hundred articles and three monographs, the chemist and statistician Alfred James Lotka (1880-1949) is not very well known. Because he had not experienced a conventional academic curriculum, he remained ‚at the margins' of the scientific community. In 1925 he aimed for a breakthrough with his first monograph Elements of Physical Biology. The basic idea of this study was to understand nature in terms of energy. Lotka's mathematical approach was highly innovative, although he had borrowed certain notions from his former teacher, the physical chemist Wilhelm Ostwald. This article focuses on the very process of how a new idea developed and spread through the scientific community, and tries to determine to what extent the author—with his personality, his intentions and feelings—was part of this process. This includes looking at the emotional strain that followed the publication of Lotka's masterpiece. Considering his anxieties, worries and distress during the period of reception, and his efforts to make sure his book was acknowledged by its audience, the article sheds light on often neglected aspects of scientific work such as identification, intention, mimicry, originality, and rivalry. The case study deals with a systematic blindness in the history of science: it takes into account the actors of science, their personality and their strategic moves, in order to come to a better understanding of the close connection between their work and their actions. Academic publishing refers to the action taken by individuals or organisations to make scholarly materials publicly available. The research process is not complete and relevant until research results are made available to the public through publication (Owan et al., 2021). The essence of any scholarly venture is to create knowledge or modify existing knowledge. Knowledge cannot be said to have been created if the scholarly output is stored on a personal computer accessible only to the author(s). Through publication, other scholars or the general public become aware of the finished product of a scholarly venture. Scientific publications are the lifeblood of science because they serve as fertilisers for other scientists to think (Clapham, 2005). New hypotheses are generated, rebutted, or verified by publishing new information in the scientific community. Publish and perish? The impact of citation indexing on the development of new fields of environmental research

The publishing of research has implications for the evaluation of research careers, research departments and funding for research projects. Researchers' academic evaluation relies heavily on the status of the journal in which a researcher publishes. The inclusion of one's work in Science Citation Index (SCI) and Social Science Citation Index (SSCI) is often used as an indicator of academic quality. This is unfortunate for many environmental researchers, as their journals are not represented in the SCI and SSCI. Two investigations were carried out to determine the reasons for this. The first investigation identified 352 existing environmental academic journals, classified into 7 categories (and several subcategories). Of these, 2 categories were not represented in the SCI or SSCI: environmental systems analysis journals, and corporate environmental management journals. The second survey investigated the publishing patterns of interdisciplinary research groups and the characteristics of their journals. In spite of acceptable citation levels, interdisciplinary environmental journals are excluded from the SCI and SSCI. A major reason seems to be that citations of their articles are uncounted by the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI), the organization producing the SCI and SSCI, because citations mostly take place in a group of journals completely unrepresented in ISI's database

Most central banks are exploring central bank digital currencies (CBDCs), and their work continues apace amid the Covid-19 pandemic. Central banks are moving into more advanced stages of CBDC engagement, progressing from conceptual research to practical experimentation. The CBDC (Central Bank Digital Currency) has certain benefits: it is account-based, interest-bearing and universally acceptable. CBDC is a monetary value stored electronically that represents the central bank's obligations and can be used by its users to make payments. This study aims to analyse Garuda's monetary impact, technology readiness and security threats (Indonesian CBDC) based on a systematic literature review conducted from 2020-2022. Publish and Perish are used for collecting articles data, and VosViewer is used for analyzing data that is further to be discussed. This research is expected to contribute knowledge about the state readiness of the CBDC implementation plan based on monetary, technological readiness and banking security perspectives

The Essential Factors and Trend Development of IoT Smart Box

Boxes for drug storage are handy and essential and play a role in helping the healing process and support maintaining patient health regularly for a long time. SmartBox is not a new thing, but because of its importance, it, SmartBox continues to be developed to date according to the needs needed. In previous research, the formation of SmartBox was only for particular things. This study tries to unify the 17 papers obtained with the help of a publish and perish application which is then carried out a literature review and using the VosViewer application to get an overview of trend development and the essential factors or aspects in the formation of SmartBox and its development. In addition to getting the trend of SmartBox development, this research also finds seven essential factors that will be useful for Smartbox development. With this research, it hopes that it will facilitate the development of SmartBox in the future. &nbsp
