    Minimalist's Linux Cluster

Using barebone PC components and NIC's, we construct a linux cluster which has 2-dimensional mesh structure. This cluster has smaller footprint, is less expensive, and use less power compared to conventional linux cluster. Here, we report our experience in building such a machine and discuss our current lattice project on the machine.Comment: 3 pages, 2 figures, Proceedings of the Lattice 03 Conference (Tsukuba, Japan

    Interactive tailor system

Interactive Tailor System is an online system designed for tailors. A system that enables tailors to keep the data of their customers. A profile of each customer will be created by the tailor. All necessary details of the clients are stored in the system and retrieved. The measurements of customers will be recorded and found easily when needed. The tailors will use a picture see the measurements of the customers. The tailor will need to click the leg in order to see how much it measures. Before using the system users need to register then they must login with their username and password in order to enter the system. The system is constituted of different components such login function, insertion of data in the database, extraction of data from the database, search facility, mail sending. The methodology chosen to develop this system is waterfall model approach. This method is simple to implement, the amount of resources needed are minimal and after each phase the output is obtained, therefore it has clear visibility

Microcontroller Based Wireless Controlled Pick Place Robot

This thesis focuses on implementation and control of a pick place robot using radio frequency transmitter and reciever system. The control of this robot is achieved by PIC16f877A microcontroller. The main duty of microcontroller is to generate pulse which are applied to the DC motors for completing the desired task. In this study three DC motors are used in which two are utilized to control the movement of robot and one is used to control the gripper. The operation of designed pick place robot has been experimentally verified. Simulation and experimental results are presented and discussed

Question-led approach in designing Dijkstra algorithm game-based learning: A pilot study

    Get PDF
Dijkstra algorithm is important to be understood because of its many uses. However, understanding it is challenging. Various methods to teach and learn had been researched, with mixed results. The study proposes questionled approach of the algorithm in a game-based learning context. The game designed based on an existing game model, developed and tested by students. Pre- and post-game tests compared and game feedback survey analysed. Results showed that students’ performance in graph data structure Dijkstra algorithm improved after playing the game where post-test mark was higher than pre-test. Game feedback were mostly positive, with areas of improvement. Students may use the game as a learning tool for self-regulated learning. Educators may get some ideas on how to design teaching tool using question-led approach

As the decades passed, smartphones have come to their greatest inventions. But their history has more than 2500 years starting from a basic thing of strings and beads, i.e. from the Abacus to the latest of our present iPhone. With every special invention in this area brought people together socially over the internet. This, in turn, raised the alarm for having secured communication. With these devices getting popular, development in the technology to enhance the security features in those devices has also been increasing. These advancements have brought Apple operating system (IOS) into light. These devices are one step ahead of all other smartphones regarding storage by having space for storing emails, GPS data and many more. This feature of storage has a major advantage in conducting forensics for investigation purposes. In this research, I performed data acquisition on iPhones with two different OS versions using various forensic tools and then compare the forensic implications with variant security features. I analyzed the forensic implications with enhancements in security and iPhone operating systems over the years. I also used to software to break the iPhone passcode which is the major forensic implication caused

[EN] This work aims to implement and evaluate an interactive educational software that helps Civil Engineering students to perform and analyze the calculations related to different Soil Mechanics laboratory tests. This experience consists of an attempt to incorporate information and communication technologies (ICTs) into the engineering teaching-learning process. The content of the program is distributed into three different modules: “Compaction test”, “Consolidation test”, and “Direct shear test”. Using vector graphics, tables, illustrative figures, animations, equations, tip buttons, and immediate correction of mistakes, the software clarifies the relationship between theoretical concepts and practical laboratory results, instructs the students in the moments of doubt, attracts their interest, and motivates them to achieve the complete data interpretation. Based on the results of an applied evaluation questionnaire, it was observed that most of the students were satisfied with the contents and functionalities of the program. The developed tool can be an inspiration for the creation of new educational software that improve the quality of education in different engineering areas.[ES] El presente trabajo pretende implementar y evaluar un software educativo interactivo que ayuda a los estudiantes de ingeniería civil a realizar y analizar los cálculos relacionados con los diferentes ensayos de laboratorio de Mecánica de Suelos. The authors would like to express gratitude to the Civil Engineering Department and to the Geotechnical Laboratory of the Federal University of Viçosa, for the great support to this research.Nalon, GH.; Barbosa, PSDA.; Nascimento, WD.
