The logical and geometric modelling of a universal machine control reference architecture
This paper reports on new research into the computer modelling and simulation of the
UMC (Universal Machine Control) Reference Architecture. A key factor in the UMC Reference
Architecture is the provision of aset of software configuration tools to facilitate the building
of modular machines and machine control structures. In this respect the roles of geometric
solid modelling and logical control modelling are emphasised in the paper
Robotic workcell analysis and object level programming
For many years robots have been programmed at manipulator or joint level without any real thought to the implementation of sensing until errors occur during program execution. For the control of complex, or multiple robot workcells, programming must be carried out at a higher level, taking into account the possibility of error occurrence. This requires the integration of decision information based on sensory data.Aspects of robotic workcell control are explored during this work with the object of integrating the results of sensor outputs to facilitate error recovery for the purposes of achieving completely autonomous operation.Network theory is used for the development of analysis techniques based on stochastic data. Object level programming is implemented using Markov chain theory to provide fully sensor integrated robot workcell control
On Robotic Work-Space Sensing and Control
Industrial robots are fast and accurate when working with known objects at precise locations in well-structured manufacturing environments, as done in the classical automation setting. In one sense, limited use of sensors leaves robots blind and numb, unaware of what is happening in their surroundings. Whereas equipping a system with sensors has the potential to add new functionality and increase the set of uncertainties a robot can handle, it is not as simple as that. Often it is difficult to interpret the measurements and use them to draw necessary conclusions about the state of the work space. For effective sensor-based control, it is necessary to both understand the sensor data and to know how to act on it, giving the robot perception-action capabilities. This thesis presents research on how sensors and estimation techniques can be used in robot control. The suggested methods are theoretically analyzed and evaluated with a large focus on experimental verification in real-time settings. One application class treated is the ability to react fast and accurately to events detected by vision, which is demonstrated by the realization of a ball-catching robot. A new approach is proposed for performing high-speed color-based image analysis that is robust to varying illumination conditions and motion blur. Furthermore, a method for object tracking is presented along with a novel way of Kalman-filter initialization that can handle initial-state estimates with infinite variance. A second application class treated is robotic assembly using force control. A study of two assembly scenarios is presented, investigating the possibility of using force-controlled assembly in industrial robotics. Two new approaches for robotic contact-force estimation without any force sensor are presented and validated in assembly operations. The treated topics represent some of the challenges in sensor-based robot control, and it is demonstrated how they can be used to extend the functionality of industrial robots
Automatization of the code generation for different industrial robots
Tese de doutoramento em Informática (ramo de conhecimento em Compiladores, Geração de Código e Robótica Industrial)This document presents GIRo (Grafcet - Industrial Robots), that is a generic environment
for programming industrial robots off-line, that includes: a truly high-level and declarative
language (Grafcet); an easy-to-use front-end (Paintgraf); an intermediate representation
(InteRGIRo); the translators from Paintgraf to InteRGIRo; the generic compiler, that
translates InteRGIRo to the robot target code; and the editor for the robot language
inputs (to obtain the necessary information about the robot target language, to allow the
generation of code to such robot).
GIRo focus on the modelling of the system, based on the Grafcet specification diagram,
rather than on the robot details, improving the programming and maintenance tasks,
allowing the reuse of source code, once this source code will be machine independent.
GIRo also allows the programmer to write programs in the robot language, if he is
familiarized with the robot commands.
With GIRo:
– the user can program robots in a high or low level;
– the portability for the source code is granted;
– the reuse of source code for different robots is allowed;
– the programming and maintaining tasks are facilitated.
GIRo is easy-to-use.
(linguagem do robô);
– a portabilidade do código fonte é garantida;
– a reutilização do codigo fonte para robôs diversos é permitido;
